Just received my new One+ Open yesterday. Using MS Launcher until i watch enough of your videos, to migrate to the One+ system. It seems to be better than MS Launcher... but a bit overwhelming for now. Keep up the good work.
Great stuff. I was really surprised when i had 3 applications open and then recieved a movement notification from my unifi cameras and i accidently clicked it. It then open a floating window from the unifi app and played the video for me. 4 apps running at once now no slowness.
A couple things... 1. You didn't miss anything, Shane. OnePlus missed the opportunity of properly educating users of a new device how to use it. This is especially important with such a new user interface. 2. It's nice that tent mode works when the phone is set down, however I use tent mode while holding my Surface Duo quite often. I place a finger out two between the screens as an easy way of holding the phone up while watching something when I'm sitting or laying down.
The OnePlus Open is my favorite phone I've ever owned. By far the best thing about it for me is the aspect ratios. I have a normal phone on the outside, and a MASSIVE incredible screen on the inside! The hinge is good, but I wish it wasn't such a big threshold for it to snap open. Some angles just can't be achieved because of it. My BIGGEST gripe with the phone, though, is the fingerprint sensor gestures. On Samsung and Google foldables, you can swipe down on the fingerprint sensor to bring down the notification panel. OnePlus is missing this feature when it is so easy to implement! I really hope it comes in Android 14.
@@sean_haz I had a discussion with someone on Reddit about it. The sensor is used only on this phone, so it's not clear whether it's capable of gestures or not. We can only hope it's added soon
Loving this video and loving this phone! I think my biggest gripe so far is the state of accessories, I'd like to get 3rd party cases and screen protectors but everything has long shipping times.
Im waiting for my oneplus to arrive and i can't wait to try it out. I have a wacom bamboo stylus pen and wish someone would do a video testing out this pen to see if it works on the oneplus.
I need a help about dimning the display with sliding the finger from left side to the right side and I want to switch of this. In don't know how I activate it.
Subbed! Just got my piece and will take a proper look at your earlier video. Thanks! Also would you know if the Android 14 update is available for the oneplus open?
Not yet, and if I had to guess it'll be a few months at the best. Considering the customizations that have to be done to support the unique layout. But who knows, maybe Google having their own foldable will make this process better?
As i hold the Open while watching videos, i use the camera bump almost as a Pop Socket. It sits nicely on your finger or you can actually hold the entire phone by using the bump. Try it.
Hi Shane, do you have your "voicemail" tab in your phone app working properly? Mine's been saying saying "isn't working, call to finish setup" for 3 days.
In Developer Options, you'll have to change your "Duration scale". I have mine set to 1.0 That'll determine how long the color creeps up the sides of the screen.
having lots of foldbales, Opo Find N3 (aka One Plus open) is a great product. The pain points of a Samsung device are being addressed. Its a miss for wireless charging (which could leads to Magsafe stand/charger)
Great vid. Please help me, I'm guessing its the material you stuff but I'm sick of all my widgets and keyboard changing colors based on wallpaper. I can't figure out how to turn it off 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
One more thing i found it's a bug but it can be usefull. You can use front screen with phone unfolded in portrait mode if you go into camera. Change it to front view (top left third icon) and return to home screen
I just saw ur short on multitasking on pixel fold. There i saw u using web like ui of Twitter. Can u make a video abt web like apps on different foldables? Include how to get that and how it functions in full screen and other ratios Thanks
Hi Shane. Did u ever get windows to detect the new OnePlus open fir usb file transfer. I've tried everything and just can't get it to read the phone. It detects the phone but mostly won't open the OnePlus folder in explorer. Someone it does open the folder but takes forever then only shows 2 or 3 shared folders. But soon as you try to copy anything it says device unavailable.
@@shanecraigtech is that with the original cable. I've tried around 6 different cables including the original. Sometimes it picks it up sometimes doesn't. But if I try copying anything it stops detecting the phone. It's annoying. Any suggestions?
One thing that I haven't seen talked about in any review is how durable are these phones in case of an accidental drop. I've had my Pixel 8 for three weeks now and it's already taken a 5 ft drop onto a hard tile floor. Fortunately I had slapped a cheap TPU case on it and the phone survived without a scratch.
I can't remember the source, but I did see an article where somebody talked about how they had already dropped their one plus open a couple of times and it survived unscathed. All I can really say from personal experience is that I have seen a Z Flip dropped multiple times and it's been fine and my foldables in general have all lasted as long as I've needed them to.
Shane as you are an owner of both OnePlus Open and a Pixel Fold money no object which one would you take. I currently have the PF and have a OnePlus Open on the way not sure which one is gonna be more suited.
I think they need to fix that tent mode also, that's kind of finicky, the way I saw someone try the table top mode was to turn on the camera open the device up and then turn on selfie mode and then swipe up on the home screen to then have the screen stay on from the outside and then proceeded to open another app to then be able to have table top mode, too many hurdles to jump through, these things should just work as a foldable device.
Does the Open have another round sensor beside the camera on the inner screen? Or is it just for me? You can see this when screen is off. On my device, I see a small circle (the size of the camera) on the left side of the front cam of the inner display. I am guessing this is an ambient light sensor, but do correct me if I am wrong.
A lot of nice Samsung Galaxy Fold features😅 still hate the UI that the inner screen behave like two seperate screens. Biggest miss for all the other folds. I want to put my widget in the middle of the screen and a other outer screen. Simple software tweaks that would make this a Galaxy Fold killer
They get wiped down clean before pretty much every video. Take your phone, put it under a bright light and film it. It's going to accumulate fingerprints pretty much immediately, especially foldables. You can actually see the fingerprints accumulating through the course of most of these videos. You're basically asking me to wipe it down about every 15 seconds.
Thanks for those, especially tent mode as I was annoyed it didn't have it or so I thought!!

Interesting, I would have never thought of that feature but it sounds convenient.
@@sean_haz considering how tall the phone is, I really do miss it.
@@Levi---q7p hopefully there's no hardware difference they prevents adding it because I do reach up for notifications often 😅

Thanks! Still have the Duo 2. So undecided on my next foldable although OnePlus is looking good! Have a good day.
Thanks for the super chat!
Nice video... Thnx for the things... I learnt something.. potrait video mode was something I have been using a lot..

Indeed, I need a uag or something asap!
It is now end of June 2024, and the options are quite better....
Awesome work, thank you!
Double thumbs up for this video. Great tips!!
Thats so great! Thanks
Do you know if you can create a grid for your favorite contacts for speed dialing. I can do this on my pixel fold and I could do it on my z fold
Is the case it comes with any good and can you take off the screen protector if you want to?
Thanks as always. My only gripe is not being able to get more app grides. I would e to have 5 apps vs 4. Should not have to download Nova to get that.

Hey Shane, have you seen any condensation issues with the cameras on the Open?
Can we able to open same app twice or by split
Is there a way to add more rows of apps like 5 instead of 4 especially on the bottom row?
Not that I'm aware of
Is it possible to have a widget spanning across the full inner screen? and if yes, how does it looks on the cover screen when you fold it?
It is not
Great phone, just need a solid case to go with it now. I do construction work and I'm hesitating using this phone on site.
That really is the big problem with the OnePlus or any foldable. The lack of truly protective cases. One good drop and this phone is toast

You can do a 4x1 widget with your top 7 contacts
@@shanecraigtech thank you you're the best I'm waiting to see if they come out with a better deals on Black Friday to get this phone

What's it like using one hand? Heavy or too thick to be comfy? I have a Note10 which is so easy to hold.
It's okay, not too heavy at all. It's tall and the camera makes it a bit awkward

Hi! Does work HDR in UA-cam properly? It’s just that it doesn’t show all the brightness and the hdr looks dim, I’ve already tried all the settings.
Did you enable Bright HDR mode?
Yes@@shanecraigtech
Found the problem, I had to go into the Developer Settings - "Disable HW overlays", and turn it on - HDR is now enabled. @@shanecraigtech

The best you could do is just pick the color you want. It's under wallpaper and style.

Anytime you see something like that on one of my videos it's more than likely a web app installed with Chrome.

So the foldables still hvnt provided android app with web like ui
Foldables can't provide anything. The app makers have to.
Will it work as a screen mirror in the oneplus pad?
I'm not super familiar with this feature, but it does have something called multi-screen connect.
