      I figured that if you move the drone instead of the gimble and do stitching, you can turn your drone into a medium format camera. Only works for very close subjects... like a floor mosaic, a single building, or an 8x2 large canvas painting aid on the ground as was the case for me today :P

      With the controller attached to the phone it can also battery charge the phone too I believe. I always got good battery performance of the M2P controller when using my iPhone 12 at the time 👍

    I thought the Bluffs was a no fly zone after residence in the area petitioned for it.
    I miss flying my Sparky. I may dive back with the Mini, I can't believe how small and light it was.

      As far as the app allows, its safe to fly within 150 meter/feet ceiling and away from 30m of people and buildings, fly within line of sight, and you must have a basic or advanced license as issued by Transport Canada- When you are flying and snapping photos, and height will always appear greater due to the wide angle lens. The mini is a great drone and is perfect for quick snaps!

    The shutterspeed of 1/100 will make the video jittery though. Use 2x f your fpv as a shitterspeed. So 30fpv -> -1/60 shutterspeed.

    Quick question; Do you really need to use NDs and shoot more open when your subjects are hundreds of meters away?

    • @StephenBell_video
      @StephenBell_video  3 роки тому +1

      It shouldn't matter how far away they are, it's about controlling how much light comes into the sensor for proper exposure. Think of it as a seesaw, and you need to achieve a balance. The three ways are:
      Closing the aperture
      Increasing the shutter speed
      Decreasing ISO
      Increasing ND Filter Intensity
      Because it's video (and some photography), you can't change the shutter speed. And if the ISO is already as low as it can go, and you want to have a certain open aperture (wide open), the only thing left to adjust the exposure is ND Filters!

    • @Looserkid13
      @Looserkid13 3 роки тому +1

      @@StephenBell_video I have 13 years of cinematography experience, but only a few months with a drone. My question was specifically about drone photography (stills).
      I understand there will be cases when i want a slow shutter speed no matter what (water, car lights, low light etc..) but otherwise, does an open aperture add anything to the image in terms of DOF or other?
      To me it seems at 100ISO, faster shutter and a closed aperture would do the job, but maybe i'm missing something... it is perhaps when you're mixing between shooting video and photo that it's better to just have an ND on there for time management sake?
      I own ND filters for my mavic 2 that i don't leave the house without, but that's because i'm usually shooting video at either 1/50 or 1/100...
      I hope i don't sound like a jackass because this video was a huge help!
      >These polarized NDs are a must have

    • @StephenBell_video
      @StephenBell_video  3 роки тому +1

      Ah! Should be okay without NDs for drone photography. HOWEVER - if you want to do a timelapse/ hyperlapse, you'll need them. And a polarizer would be good if you are shooting midday.

  • @Chuudoh1
    @Chuudoh1 3 роки тому +1

    Can u shoot vertical photos with the mavic air 2?

    • @StephenBell_video
      @StephenBell_video  3 роки тому

      You can't tilt the gimbal vertically but you can definitely crop the photo to match vertical alignment.

  • @theK174
    @theK174 3 роки тому +2

    Why the hell emphasize ND filters for drone photography ?? They are needed for videos, we're talking still images here... They would only be beneficial for long exposure photo (for which the drone is not suitable to begin with) , otherwise it just reduces your workable shutter range.

    • @StephenBell_video
      @StephenBell_video  3 роки тому +1

      I tend to always put them on, as the drone offers a unique ability at going back and forth for video and photos, and there is no point landing, swapping and taking off again. Plus I like the color hue they give a photo.

    • @thejimmy6533
      @thejimmy6533 3 роки тому +1

      Agree 100%, theK174. If you're using ND filters, you're going to have to use a higher ISO to maintain a workable shutter speed, yet he says "make sure you have your ISO set properly, and use your ND filters to adjust." But prior to that he states how anything over ISO 200 starts to look grainy. ISO 200 (or less) combined with an ND filter is just going to make your camera slower, which is pointless if you're shooting a moving object.

    • @thejimmy6533
      @thejimmy6533 3 роки тому +1

      Also, using proper manual settings, NOT an ND filter, is going to ensure your exposures are not "blown out." You don't need an ND filter for your drone camera any more than you need one for a DSLR (and you don't).

    • @mugwomper
      @mugwomper 3 роки тому +1

      If you're shooting over or at water scenes, the polarized nd filters are almost a must. Come on people think !

      Not saying it can’t be done, I’m just not recommending it, as I have seen fellow flyers lose drones in bad weather conditions. 🤷‍♂️
