Oh wow. I think that after Johnny died in his monologue this night he sure didn't want to be dealing with that audience anymore. He looked like he'd rather not be there at all. But absolutely has the best reactions when he bombs.
Funny that Sam Blotner returning from Costa Rica after meeting Robert Vesco the famous swindler could tell a story maybe better than many celebrity guests. Even with never finishing - out of time.
I am a gigantic Johnny fan and Lily Tomlin is obviously quite talented but I have never seen too hugely talented people be so boring. I watched Johnny every night and these are 2 superstars just putting me to sleep... Shocked but I'll be back for more tomorrow!
I think you’re missing the souls of both Johnny and Lili; they are both introverts and extremely shy in their own right. I found Lili especially endearing with her story of how her Dad told her she had to ‘learn to be popular.’
Couldn't figure out what that last guy was trying to do, just meandering in his mind and dialogue, repetitive, trying Johnny's patience. Johnny tried to help him stay on track and finish, but no luck. Wondered if the guy was senile or drunk, high on something. 😬😖👎👎 Jerry Van Dyke seemed so out of it I couldn't follow him either. I know he was supposed to be comically hung over, but he was seriously wandering and mumbling, depressing to watch.😞 (I've seen him perform on the Dick Van Dyke show so I know he can do a lot better!) I never felt sorry for Johnny before, but sure did after seeing this fiasco.
Excluding the skits, I think his show was not as funny in L.A. as it was in New York. Northeasterners and Californians seem to have a different sense of humor.
The majority of people in the studio audience when he was at Burbank were not from California. His near 500 strong audience would be filled with 80% of people not from California
I’m laughing more at the interactions between Johnny and Ed during the Karnak bit than I was at the jokes!
My God this stuff (Carnac) was the best!!
Damn! What a tough crowd that show had lmao

everyones just having fun what a show. so different to the tightly packed 20 minute episodes.
I found Walter Slezak interesting. I wish Carson would have asked him questions about his Hollywood films.

I think someone at Studio 1 in Burbank accidentally turned the heating up and caused the audience to become sleepy
A better time
Its the suit .
Just skip to guest #1 LILY TOMLIN
Air date?
February 20th, 1975.
Do you suppose Johnny borrowed that suit from Spike Jones?
I.I.N.M., Johnny during the 1970's had his own clothing line, and often modeled the suits in that line every night on his show.
Jerry van Dyke kinda bombed his set.
Nice green plaid suit, not :)
Johnny earned his salary for the year in this one Night. Horrible. Someone here mentioned it was the suit. It’s very likely.

I'm outta here...not one laugh yet.😳

This is pretty corny in 2022.

Or his daughter soap star Erika
