Want to share with you my experience with the fish eyes. This was my FIRST alcohol ink tumbler ever. Lesson learned! Thank you for watching and for your support!

Thank you so much! I’ve only made about 5 tumblers, but 3 have come out with fisheyes. Now I’m going to strip them and try again with sanding, washing, alcohol and gloves.

How do you prep a cup like the black one in regards to the sanding? When I sand black it makes the scratch marks but then I have to epoxy then spray paint black then epoxy again…do you know a better method?

I am in the same boat! Just made my second cup and I have millions of fish eyes 😩😩😩 I know for a fact it was because I didn’t clean it with alcohol like I did my first one. My first one came out perfect so I just knew I would do great on this one 🥺

How can I fix fisheyes on my tumblers? They are 1cm or smaller and no matter how well and consistently I prep, every one of my tumblers has ended up with at least two fish eyes.

I am usually doing the following mistakes - 1/ I do not use a proper amount of Isopropyl alcohol to clean the surface. When I am in hurry, my cleaning is sloppy and then I will have to redo everything again 2/ After I clean the tumbler and spray it with base color, once the color dries, I touch it with my bare hands. Hands no matter what will have a bit of oil or sweat on them. This tiny amount of oil will most likely cause the fish eyes you are getting. Once the tumbler is painted, always use gloves when moving the tumbler from one place to another, before you apply Epoxy 3/ You are not using enough epoxy to cover the whole surface. Sometimes when I see a small fish eyes are showing up, I add more Epoxy to cover them and I will be "massaging" the tumbler surface with my fingers until all fisheyes disappear 4/ Do you use heat gun after you apply Epoxy? Using heat gun will make the Epoxy more runny and will turn into watery like form. In this state fish eyes are more likely to show up.
Please, let me know if any of my suggestions helped!
      Happy crafting! Julie

how do you fix it without stripping it and starting all over?

    • @craftevolved6017

Hi Jamee! When you scratch your car’s door, they usually take down the door and redo the paint job on the whole door, not just a scratch part. I do believe if you tried to fix only fish eye spot on the epoxy tumbler, it will be visible and you will not be satisfied with the result and will end up redoing the whole thing anyway. But hey, give it a try and let me know. Experimenting is always fun 😀👍 Thank you the question 👊

Did you prep the tumbler with Isopropyl Alcohol before you applied Epoxy?
