- Hey everyone!
After posting the G37 Tire Pressure Menu Enablement video, a few people asked if the GTR Gauges project was dead.
Here is a short video to show that it is alive and well. :)
If this or any other MotorvateDIY videos has helped you or saved you money, please consider supporting this

Anything you can do is greatly appreciated!
Hell yeah! Cant wait to order one here to Colorado! Keeo up the amazing work!
Glad to hear that!
Hopefully the testing is going well I’ve been hopping back on your channel since this video posted hoping to see updates very soon this product is going to a great addition to the G community. Best of luck
i can not wait for this product to be fully finished!!!
Nice work on the gauges, my friend is excited for his G37. I’m his car buddy and an EE.
I would suggest to be careful with your ESP32 placement. You’re likely to have some degradation in antenna performance especially with a ground plane surrounding it. This is especially true if you’re using the one with the PCB trace antenna. Take a look at ESP32’s Hardware Design Guidelines which details layout information regarding antenna location.
Thanks for the tips! The design guidelines call for 5mm of space around the antenna. I made the ground plane cut out for the antenna as large as I could while trying to keep the board as compact as possible.
In the next few days the testing will begin and I'll keep an eye out for poor signal strength.
Sure thing. There are always compromises to be made when designing products. Good luck.
Actually, this is the first circuit board I have designed since the 80s with Radio Shack's dip tank/etch kit. The newer method is so much easier!
Been waiting on this. Gonna share it on all platforms. Appreciate you Frank!
That would be awesome... thanks for helping me get the word out.
So excited! Thank you for all you have researched. Looking forward to testing one myself when available. 🙏
Glad to hear that! First test on a car that isn't mine is tomorrow!
I excited and nervous to see what happens.
Looks sick. Thanks for sharing the update
Thanks. Tomorrow is the first field test. I can't wait to see what happens!
Really wanted to keep an oem look in my G37 without having gauges everywhere but there aren’t any options for that.
Its exciting to see one being developed. Worth the wait and I’m looking forward to getting my hands on this!
I'm glad to hear that!
When I first started down this path, I had the same thought... I want gauges (especially oil pressure!!) but there isn't any good places to mount them that don't look like a cheap add-on or stick out like a sore thumb. AND you need to figure out how to get wire through the firewall without a water leak.
Anyways, I've verified the new circuit boards are good and have built a few for testing in my car, which worked as expected!
I'm about half done a minor update to the code and will start local testing in the new year.
Thank you for your patience on this. I'm not an engineer or mechanic, so it is important to me to test and verify everything works as expected. So far.... so good!
Great work.
Thanks!
@@MotorvateDIY I hope that postage will be available to Europe, Poland :)
I don't see any problem with that!
BUT, I need to do more local testing on the North American nav units, before I start testing on the Europe nav units.
The software is a little different and I think everything will work, but I won't know until I test. Please hang in there!
I’m ready!
Hang in there!!
I just did a big software update for a few extra fun things. Testing on my G37 has gone very well, and will start local testing in the next month.
Please be patient with me... I've never done anything like this before and want to make sure it works as expected on all the different models of the G37 and 370z. It should be worth the wait :)
@@MotorvateDIYlet’s goooooo
Nice work Frank!
Thanks Greg!
In the next few months I hope to start on your dash/display. :)
Wow this is so cool. I have a q50 now so this won't be for me but still this is mind blowing stuff Frank!!!
That's correct... The Q50 uses a different system.
This is exciting, can't wait to get my hands on one.
I'm glad to hear that!
It's been nice keeping an eye on everything when going for a drive.
Any new updates? It's been a while.
Updates??? You bet!
There have been a few updates and a lot of testing on my G37.
I'm in the process of making 4-5 modules for local testing in Toronto.
I want to make sure they work as expected on different versions of the G37.
In the next few weeks, I'll post an update video showing the new items that have been added in the last update.
So... much work/testing has gone on behind the scenes and soon it will be ready to get it out to everyone. :)
@@MotorvateDIY Thanks for the update!
Following closely, want this bad! Lol
I would love to be a guinea pig or assist if possible. Wonderful project.. I def want this :)
Excellent work ! It's a great news 👍
Thanks for all !
Thanks!
The first "GTR MFD Converter" circuit board is assembled and will be tested today. Wish me luck!
So, what is the result 😁
Well.... I assembled the first board and only half of it worked.
I got the scope out and checked everything out.
As it turns out, I received a bad batch of SN65 CAN bus transceivers.
I popped in a known working SN65 and the new circuit board works exactly as it should!! I'm very happy!!
Now I need to make a test jig to verify all the CAN bus transceivers I have and for the next batch I purchase. Overall, not a big deal.
Ouf, happy for the final :-)
Good luck for the rest of testing 👍
This is so cool!! I can’t wait for the next update!
I'm glad you like it :)
Things are progressing well!
This is amazing 🤩 I would love this!! I run ECU tech and I would love this.
Glad to hear that!
I'll also be running EcuTek in the spring and may have additional data to show.
I'm totally geeked about the GT-R gauges! I have a question a bit off topic, but figured if anyone would know, you might. Have you considered putting actual skyline 370gt mirrors on the G37? They are foldable, and have cameras built in. I'm wondering if our cars (2012G37xs sedan) have the wiring, or the ability to use those mirror cameras with our interface/system? o.0 Thanks for all you do!
I'm glad you are excited about the GTR gauges!
I have really enjoyed keeping an eye on my car/engine stats while driving... especially engine oil pressure and temperature.
Also, the testing on other G37s has gone very well!
As for the 370GT mirrors with cameras, last week I started to look into the "AVM" or around view monitor set up on the G37's navigation system and a little progress was made.
However, the additional wires for folding and cameras would need to be added... PLUS the AVM control unit would need to be integrated into the car's CAN bus and video input into the navigation unit.
For right now, it isn't a priority, but it may be something for the future.
I’m interested in this I’ve been following for a while and I have a 2010 370z which are prone to gallery gasket failures and I’d like to watch the gauges!
Thanks for following along!
Now that the warmer weather is here, I'm building a few kits for local testing, I hope to start by the end of the month. Hang in there, progress is being made!!
I've always wanted something like this for vintage cars to keep the classic look but have access to instant data. ETA to market? Price? It's going to be hard to wait.
Over the winter I've been testing it in my car, and it is working really well!
Now that the spring is here, I'll be starting some local testing on other G37 models (Automatics and AWD) to make sure everything works as expected.
I'm hoping spring beta testing will allow it to be available for summer sales.
As for price, I'm not sure yet. I want to make sure the hardware I have chosen is durable and works perfectly.
THIS. IS. AWSOME!
Thanks!
The first "GTR MFD Converter" board is assembled and will be tested later today. Once that is working, I'll make 5-6 for local testing. Then focus on the Bluetooth Sensor Server assembly and testing.

Man I have 2010XS really excited to see this progress and be the only G in VA with this update! Would the system have to be hooked up to the diagnostic port to operate?
I'm glad you are excited for this... so am I!
It does plug into the OBD port and is designed to be plug and play, for a quick and easy install.
I'll show more when the local beta testing begins next month.
any update?? boosting my g37 soon and would love to have this in my car, keep up the good work
Hey Owen,
No youtube worthy update, but progress has been made. I did a major update to the firmware in late 2023 and have been testing it in my G37 since then.
I'm not a programmer or an engineer, so I want to test as much as I can on my car to make sure everything works as expected... and it has!
I'm in the Toronto area, and many g37/370s are put away for the cold winter, so I am gearing up for beta testing on other 2010+ G37/370Z in the spring.
So... progress has been made and the project is moving forward,.
If I'm honest, I really like keeping an eye on oil temps and pressures.
It is nice peace of mind when you have 21 PSI of oil pressure at 80C/176F and the spec is more than 14. My oil gallery gaskets are good... so far!
I'll post an update video in the next few weeks, just to let everyone know what has been going on in the background.
This is very cool. How did you get the gyro to work? Is it already built into the unit?
The gyro data comes from the car. It uses the "side g sensor" which is a module that is bolted to the floor, just behind the gear shift lever.
When you're going to be selling this great product keep me updated when it's available do I can get for my f37
What year is your FX37?
As I understand it, it should work on the 2010-2013 FX35, but I haven't test it on that platform yet.
To start off, I'll be testing on the G37 platform and if it works like it has on my G37, I'll look to test it on other platforms. :)
Any updates on the cluster gear selector for us 6spd owners? Thank you
Yes there is... testing has gone very well.
I need to do a small tweak to reduce power consumption when the car is off and add a watchdog timer. (if the software stops for any reason, it will automatically reset).
After that is done, then I test locally on a few cars (Toronto) and then it should be good to go!
I'll do an update video when the above is done.
Thanks for your follow up!
so these will be seperate things? the 6 speed cgear selector and this GTR gauges? @@MotorvateDIY
Yes and Yes!
The gear position indicator will be available as a small device that plugs into the car's OBD port.
Also, with the GTR gauges, if the car has a manual transmission, it will display the current gear in the gauge cluster.
Any news?
No info since 9 months 😔
Congrats on the development, exciting project. I'm thinking to retrofit that unit to s15 silvia. How big is the screen ? And is there any info on internet how to run this unit on the bench ?
Thanks for your kind words on the project!!
Local beta testing will start in early 2024.
As for the S15 platform, I don't have much documentation on it, but I don't think it has a CAN bus network. That means it would need to be developed in order to feed the needed data to the Nav unit and GTR gauges.
That would require a lot of analog signals to be converted to digital, and then sent out on a newly created CAN bus. This is not quick or easy to do.
To give you an idea of the data that is on the CAN bus, here is a list off the top of my head: engine coolant temp, engine oil temp, engine oil pressure, engine RPM, fuel flow, engine load, individual wheel speed, vehicle wheel speed and a bunch of other items.
Sooo, I don't think the GTR gauges are an option for your S15.
In 2024, I do have plans to start developing a stand alone "GTR" type display for the 370Zs without Navigation. (But will be tapping into existing CAN bus for data)
Oh, one last thing. The display is 7" on the diagonal.
Let me know when I can buy one from you sir
Hey is there anyways you can do video on how to flush coolant, and add more coolant on a g37 pls🤞🏽🤞🏽🤞🏽
When I changed my coolant a few years go, I was tight on time and didn't spend set up cameras and mics.
I'm sure there are many videos that cover this. Basically, just drain the coolant at the rad, and use a Lisle 24680 spill free funnel to fill it and run the engine until the thermostat opens.
It was very easy to do.
Hi Frank, how are you?
Is there any news on the GTR gauges project on the 370Z screen?
I'm not sure which project you are asking about, so I'll mention both:
The GTR gauges for the G37, should work on the 370, as long as it is a 2010-2017 and has navigation. Local beta testing will confirm this.
The non-nav / stand alone GTR "look a like" screen is planned, but no software development has started yet. Required hardware has been purchased and it waiting for me :)
For the next little while, my free time is dedicated to getting the GTR gauges out for local testing, plus a few smaller products. (G37 gear position indicator, AFS off module, etc)
This is awesome
Thanks!
A few days ago, I was able to test the hand wired prototype on a local G37X with the Tech package and everything worked as expected :)
Now, I'm assembling a few circuit boards to test on a some local G37s and 370s. I do expect them to work as expected, but you don't know until you test!
@@MotorvateDIY this is great news and I'll be attempting the tpms thing you demonstrated in a few days.
Hi Frank what is the latest on your work to provide an awesome improvement for us G37 + owners. Thanks
I've updated the software in Jan 2024 and the testing has gone well.
In the next few months, I'll start local testing.
Hang in there, it is coming your way!
Testing on my G37 has gone well. Next step is to test on a few local G37s to make sure everything works as expected.
this looks like awesome progress! I drive an '09 coupe if you want some help with testing/debugging these :)
I'll keep that in mind.
As I understand it, the GTR gauges software is in the 09 navigation units. The trick is being able to re-configure the nav unit so it thinks it is in a GTR.
No update on when its gonna be out? I live in saudi Arabia and i want this in my g
The next step is to test on local G37/370z in the Toronto areas.
One that has proven to work well, then it is open to the world.
I want to make sure it woks as expected for all the different markets Nissan/Infiniti sells in.
are they out yet? and where can i get one
how do you test the navigation units? I have a spare 2010 nav system and i'm trying to retro fit it into an 2009, but i want to know if it's working and what modifications i have to do before i start.
For testing, I wired up the nav unit, LCD screen, nav buttons/dial and front clock/HVAC controls as they would be in my G37.
It isn't difficult as long as you are good with wiring and can understand a wiring diagram. If you decide to do this, make sure to double / triple check every wire! One wiring mistake can destroy one or more module.
So will the can bus sensor allow ecutek tuned vqs to read oil pressure through the Bluetooth obd2 and have it show values on the ecutek app? I don’t want to put gauge pods in my interior since I can see the values on my phone
As I understand it, once EcuTek releases the "CAN bus inputs" update for the VQ platform, engine oil pressure should show up in the EcuTek app and logging.
I have a small module that powers and reads most 3 pin (with round connector) oil/fuel pressure sensors. Then it sends the data on the vehicles CAN bus, which is picked up by the EcuTek programmed ECU.
I don't have any idea when this update will be released, but when it is released, I'll test it ASAP!
Nice!
Thanks!
Is the car for sale!?
In the future could this work on non nav cars or navigation only ?
From what I have seen, this will only work on G/Z with navigation.
The non-nav systems are very different and don't have the needed built-in functions.
this wouldn't work on non-nav models would it?
Sorry but nope :(
This re-purposes the built in GTR gauges on the 2010+ navigation systems on the 370z and G37.
I would love to test this if you are interested in volunteers.
Thanks for letting me know. In the new year, I'll start testing locally. That makes it easier if any updates are required.
hello will this also work for 07-08 G35 HRs?
Sadly it won't.
It requires the navigation system that was first used in 2010.
Let me know if you need a 2012 US test G37 6mt in South East MI (1/2hr West of Detroit)
Thanks for this and I will keep you in mind. That's only 4ish hours from me :)
BUT local testing will be first, so it is easier/quicker to address any issues.
No other new mods?
Actually there are a few, but they are just on a list of "next products"
My main focus right now is the GTR gauges. Local testing will be starting soon!
Have you ever done a G37 clutch replacement? I wanna try it but the videos I’m finding on it aren’t great =\
Not yet!
When the time comes, I will be recorded for a future episode.
@@MotorvateDIY Sounds good. Thanks for everything so far man!
Will this work on a 2009 or just 2010+?
The GTR gauges only work on the 2010+ nav system. The 2009 and older version use different hardware and software.
