Lou, this Plymouth is phenomenal. A real bad-boy. Although there were competitors in the big car muscle arena at the time, Chrysler REALLY had it down.
Back in the day whenever I seen this particular car, it was always an automatic. I never one time seen a factory for speed for that reason alone it would interest me to have it preferably with one of the bigger motors, but hey, you can’t have everything.😂❤
Well, I just love Mr. Mason's car! The lines and styling look fantastic, the color really pops, and a big ol' V-8 and a four speed are the perfect combo for fun cruising. It's another great video and visit all around. Thanks, Lou!
The owner of MOPAR made an incredible buy. I love it. And I'm a GM guy. Back in the day, like 50 years ago, I had a set of Applicance slotted mags on my '71 Vette. I've looked for a set of these wheels on and off for over ten years and have never come across a se. They were Cat's Meow IMO. Cars like these with the large bench seats for perfect for Saturday Night date nights at the Drive-In's. 😉 Did you notice Lou that the shoulder strap was tucked out of the way up at the headliner? I like that. Of course, I think that was before shoulder straps were required to be attached to the seat belts so that they'd always be worn. Save the Wave 👋
Brad Mason won the first place in the C-body section at Carlisle with this Mopar. Not bad for a twenty-five-year-young gearhead who's at his 28th car. Lou, you will definitely see him in the future, I'll bet a full tank of premium for this Fury on it. Cool car, as usual.
Thanks for the compliment! I appreciate it and the article you wrote up on myself and the car. Feel free to contact me if you’d like to write another story, I have another car coming soon with a crazy story behind it.
As a 19-22 year old back in 1969-1972 I had a 1966 Plymouth Fury III two door hardtop with a 383 four barrel and a factory four speed as well. Deceptively fast for such a large car(90 mph+ in third gear)as many a 327 Chevy II found out. I still miss it. Yours is beautiful and brings back memories of the fun I had with mine.

Lou, fantastic video it was awesome working with you on this! Thank you everyone for all your great comments. Lou, I’ve got another great car heading my way very soon if you ever want to get together for another video! 👍🏻
Lou, you just made my day 😊 back in the early 90s.When I had a 1968 Plymouth Fury 3 "Fast Top" looked identical to this. It was white with a black vinyl top, 318 automatic. Loved that car. . . Beautiful car Brad enjoy it 😊
The Entire Chrysler Copr. changed so much in the 60's. They were much more distinctive as in the 50's. In 1968, Chrysler had the Newport and 300, Dodge the Monaco and Plymouth the Fury all with the similar body style, except for the front and rear. Still a beautiful car here. It looks great in red with the black vinyl top and the fancy Appliance wheels! The sound was incredible!!! Looked great in the long shot at the end too!

Hi, Lou! This fan truly came prepared for this episode, right down to his matching shirt! Obviously, Plymouth was definitely out to win Brad over with this red Sport Fury! That Fast Top style sure looks great from all angles, and that full red loop taillight panel is quite a unique touch (the middle is red paint)! Thank you both for taking us all along on this Sporty and Fury-ous ride through Carlisle!
Nice car Lou my wife's sister and her husband bought one of these new in a 383 4 speed blue with black top very fast big body car thanks for the memory God Bless.
Hi Leroy, Happy to read this car brings back memories of your wife's sisters car :-) Thank you for viewing, sharing, you're welcome, blessings received, and God bless you too, Lou
Incredibly cool car and Brad is a knowledgeable owner and could have his own YT channel. This car reminds me of a car our family had when I was a kid. I remember when Dad bought a dark green '66 Plymouth VIP, which was the fanciest version of the Fury, designed to compete with the LTD and Caprice. We all loved that car. It had a 383 2bbl, which got 16 mpg on the hiway. Good economy for a big car in those days. Dad was a traveling salesman, so fuel economy mattered. Anyway, in '67, Dad found another VIP demonstrator and traded in our '65 Belvedere for this one. It, too, was a very nice car (same color as the car in this video) and had a 383 4bbl. Dad didn't pay much attention to the engine specs, thinking it was just another 383. This was before the estimated mpg was printed on the window sticker. Dad soon found out that there was a BIG difference between the 2bbl and 4bbl version of the 383 when the thing went through a tank of gas by the time he got to Texarkana (from Dallas). This car got 11-12mgp on the hiway. Dad didn't much care that the car would probably run a 15-second quarter mile. He was just pissed that it was a gas guzzler. In less than a year he traded it for a '68 Satellite (mid-size) with the Slant Six. This makes me laugh every time I think of it.
Beautiful car Lou. My Aunt Doris had that car when I was a kid. Same color scheme. She had the automatic transmission option though. Now this is memory lane! Thanks Lou!
Dad had a baby blue 68 Fury with the Sport Roof growing up. Ours only had a 318, and an automatic. They were way too big , and power steering would not have made the car in this video much easer to handle. Nor would that 383 really make it a 1/4 mile threat. Not to mention, they were known to be rust buckets in that rear quarter panel. Not many around any more, so this one was great to see. Kudos to the owner for his work, care and knowledge.

Big cars are cool. Big cars with big-blocks and 4-speeds are on another level of cool. These C-body Mopar's were perfectly styled with that beautiful roofline and stacked headlights. Back in the day, we used to refer to those Appliance wheels as the 'poor man's Cragar S/S', but they look fantastic on this Sport Fury. You brought us another Unicorn Lou, I love it!!!
Another beautiful car, and in red! The fury was never for sale in my country so the first time I heard about it was because of the novel Christine and the following movie and totally fell in love. The back of this one is awesome, kind of elegant. Cheers Lou!
Big C body fan here, I think the 68 Sport Fury is my favorite. Great info on the 4 speed manual thing, I never knew that fact. Only other thing to know is C O M M A N D O V8 !!!!
I have a soft spot for these cars as I learned to drive in a '67 Fury. I have only seen one other '68 with a four speed. It was a convertible in green. Maybe someday I can add a '67 or '68 Fury to my collection. I would agree with your assessment about the handling. The torsion bar front suspension is a plus. Nice car!

Nice car and great job on the interview. You touched all the bases. It may be a product of the engine bay detailing that the owner and his friend did but it looked like there was an aftermarket manifold and different headers.
Power Steering robs horsepower and with a 4 speed braking is manageable because gearing down will slow the car down BUT power brakes would have been nice. The interior is sharp....beautiful car. Thanks Lou.

Neat car! Gotta be pretty rare. The only C car that I've ever driven that wasn't an auto, was a 66 300 with a 413 and 4 speed and that thing was fun, but I thought it was kinda gaudy in gold on dark green. That car however was a full power car and I was really tempted but i didn't want change the color just because I didn't care for it. Also that Inland shifter was terrible in the 1 I drove. Maybe it was worn out. I was told 4 yrs later that the car was in a collection in Scottsdale AZ. That was '99....
Hi Adam, Happy to share this "Neat car!" with you :-) Agreed that the factory 4 speed is a rare site indeed. Glad to read this car brings back memories of the 66 300 you drove with the 4 speed, Lou
A big , red beauty from " baby lou" 😅 that car is really rare . I have seen a " couple " of them over the years , but a 4 speed in a big car was not necessarily popular because people thought that manual transmission cars should be lighter, dart, charger, road runner, I could go on. Little do people know if you st these 4200 lbs cars up correctly, they will move. If course a highway- conservative gear like a 3.08 or 3.23. Would actually be a grat balance, especially the 3.23 rear
383 engines are some of Chrysler's best engines. They are "B" engines that weigh less than the "RB" big blocks. 383 engines produce very good power and torque, and they will run a long, long time if they are maintained properly.
@Sid-jx4gl There were 383 RB engines made in 1959 and 1960. Some sources say the engines were installed in Chrysler Saratogas and Windsors only. At least one source says otherwise. This engine existed for the following reason. The Trenton engine plant made all big-block Chrysler engines. There was one production line for 383 B engines, and another production line for RB 413 engines. When demand for the B 383 engine surged, Chrysler could not keep up. Chrysler decided to make runs of 413 engines with smaller bores to get displacements of 382.9 C.I.D. to fill their orders. When this practice was no longer necessary, the RB 383 engines were discontinued. The RB 383 is one of many "oddball" engines Chrysler made during the 1950s and 1960s. Thanks for adding an interesting point to the story.
Hi Lou, that is a very mice Fury, is there any difference in the Canadian built ones and the ones that was built in the USA. It is a great looking car, a great video.
Hi Philip, Happy to read you like this one :-) Hmmm, not sure what the differences would be between the Canadian one. Hoping a Viewer with knowledge can share, Lou
1968 was the last year for the 4-speed Fury, or 3-speed manual. 1969 and newer are all automatic transmission. The reverse light should be late 68, with a Hurst shifter. The early 68 had a Muncie shifter, with reverse lockout and no reverse light, so it looks like an odd mix of parts now.

That 383 even with the 2 barrel carb (this one has the 4 barrel) has plenty of torque to move that car off the line. It is more likely to be able to pass a gas station than the 440 but not by a lot.

Very nice!
:-)
A big , red beauty from " baby lou" 😅 that car is really rare . I have seen a " couple " of them over the years , but a 4 speed in a big car was not necessarily popular because people thought that manual transmission cars should be lighter, dart, charger, road runner, I could go on. Little do people know if you st these 4200 lbs cars up correctly, they will move. If course a highway- conservative gear like a 3.08 or 3.23. Would actually be a grat balance, especially the 3.23 rear
Hi Big Hank, Happy to share this "red beauty" with you :-) Thanks for viewing and sharing, Lou
383 engines are some of Chrysler's best engines. They are "B" engines that weigh less than the "RB" big blocks. 383 engines produce very good power and torque, and they will run a long, long time if they are maintained properly.
Hi Randy, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge, Lou
I believe there were b and rb 383s
Beautiful ❤❤
Nice :-)
Very classy and pretty
Happy to read "Very classy and pretty" :-)
Hi Lou, that is a very mice Fury, is there any difference in the Canadian built ones and the ones that was built in the USA. It is a great looking car, a great video.
Hi Philip, Happy to read you like this one :-) Hmmm, not sure what the differences would be between the Canadian one. Hoping a Viewer with knowledge can share, Lou
Nice!
:-)
1968 was the last year for the 4-speed Fury, or 3-speed manual. 1969 and newer are all automatic transmission. The reverse light should be late 68, with a Hurst shifter. The early 68 had a Muncie shifter, with reverse lockout and no reverse light, so it looks like an odd mix of parts now.

That 383 even with the 2 barrel carb (this one has the 4 barrel) has plenty of torque to move that car off the line. It is more likely to be able to pass a gas station than the 440 but not by a lot.

Beauty..
:-)
I have an all original 68 Plymouth Fury III 318 2 door hard top that I parked in a barn 15 years+ ago. Wondering what I should do with it?
If you can, get it running and enjoy it.
Funny now that a 383 can be seen as MoPar's mid-size V8.
:-)
So beautiful 😍
:-)
Цікаве авто! Гарний колір! Дякую!
Hi Сергій, Thank you for sharing you find this to be an interesting car in a nice color :-) You're welcome, Lou

So many videos with that same bridge. Does it have a name?
Hi Mr Repurpose, I quite road to video (as you have noticed) close to a very large car show with 3000+ cars, so I'm not aware if this bridge has a name. Lou
Also, my uncle never had any car but a Plymouth.
Nice :-)
17,073 were built in that body style
Thank you for sharing.
