This was the most dramatic (due to sound and editing lol) yet most informational video I've ever seen in my life. I cant thank you enough for I've had thought that I'll never be able to understand this topic. This video was a miracle for me! Thankyou very much!
I have been teaching science and biology for 25 years, this concept is always hard for students to get. This video is by the far one of the best chemistry videos I have ever seen. I learned a lot from it.
True, but I see a reason why this concept is hard to get. Premising that all chemical paradigms are useful but inherently ill-defined, atomic hybridization (sp3 etc) has always appeared to me as one of the most arbitrary. It feels like a stretched explanation of why molecular geometries are how they are
@@gabrivigna I'm a high school student and i don't find the vb theory far fetched when it tries to explain molecular geometry. The fundamental principle is that pairs of electrons repel each other and the molecule always resides in the most stable state where there is least repulsion between the pairs. So the addition of each pair will create a unique shape, like if you were building blocks and you were given a new piece; you'd first have to shift the other existing pieces of the building to accommodate this new piece so that the entire thing doesn't fall down. Ofc the analogy is imperfect because in such an apparatus, you still have other possible layouts but if we think of the molecule that has very limited options, then this analogy will serve to be useful
This is one of my favourite subjects in chemistry. I first saw a grayscale 3rd diagram like these in one of my textbook/handouts in my last year of high school and my first thought/feeling was "oh *that's* what's going on!" and it was so satisfying.
They do an awful job teaching hybridization in school. My teacher didn't explain Pauli exclusion in relation to energy levels and how electron density is responsible for hybridization, or why orbitals take the various shapes they do.
Does anyone else suddenly feel extremely relaxed the moment this starts playing? Like you could drift off exploring through the universe in the most wholesome way?
Wow, all the sound effect was crazy. I never imagined molecules can be shown like some mechines. It's so creative and exceptional ❤️ loved these, really worth the 30 min

This video is amazing I was practically asleep, looking for videos to watch in the morning as review but got hooked. It's hard to imagine what went into creating these graphics but you really nailed it. The video provides an exceptional look at hybridization theory and was a pleasure to watch, thank you!
When depicting the π bond formation in ethylene it looks like the p orbitals bent to overlap? Is this how it's done or was that for the sake of animation?
