Hi folks, I am 26 and found this gem 5 or 6 years ago. I've just watched the entire series and it is, arguably, the best sitcom ever. Certainly up there. The acting and humour is sublime.
You have impecable taste, powderedground. I was blessed enough to have a childhood watching TV like this throughout the 80s and fortunate enough to appreciate it on first showing and multiple times since. And, yes, it is, in my view, the superlative sitcom, in particular if you want a genuine snapshot of how quirky yet wonderful (certain) English/British citizens of the time and life were. Sadly missed in the lunatic asylum we now inhabit.
After seeing Richard Briers in Good Neighbors (which I loved) I was skeptical as to whether I would like his character in this. Loved it even more. And the show was pure genius.
Jay Nuttall Indeed,i recall it from growing up I used to watch it then a few months ago I came across series 2 and 3 dvds so git them and watched them and got right into it,watched them all in one sitting have watched series 4 here on UA-cam can't seem to find series 1 though ,but nice easy relaxed viewing
Actually one of the best sitcoms out there but as you say, it tends to be underrated by those who don't take the time to watch enough to fully appreciate the comedic threads that run through the series.

Quite simply one of the best sitcoms ever written. Superbly acted, a real gem of British TV
Without question
I've watched these many times I'm 66 and it really is the absolute best... I've not seen this one though 😅😅😅😅 brilliant absolutely brilliant ❤❤❤❤
Difficult to not love Penelope Wilton in this. She plays the part to perfection IMHO. And she's gorgeous ! :-)

Wow! Your channel is quite a find. Thanks for your work from the USA!!!!
Brilliant. Genuinely funny sitcom.
“I like your pyjamas.” Priceless.
‘Hilda’s Flora and I’m Fauna, Oh Howard I can see it’s going to be one of those days when you just keep me laughing’
The panic jump out of bed at 07:55 was epic!
Penelope and Peter are both in Downtown Abbey
This is so underated if you actually take the time to get into it and watch it its really good

Yes, quite important to follow the character development and the story line.
I love Peter Egan. He is so handsome and such a great actor. 🎉
This show was so good
I thought I had watched the whole series several times but have never seen this episode before
7:57 i think they had to stop taping because the laughing was too long. For me, its Richards shake of the head that does it
I love this show
This xmas special is never repeated on Gold for some reason.
The problem at the time was that people saw Martin and kept wanting him to be Tom from The Good Life.
7:17 most comfy looking bed!!!
This show is great, shame now on TV more often
Ann. Yum yum.
Miaow!! I wouldn't complain if I woke up in bed with Peter Egan...
Me too...omg he's so handsome 😍
Heaven ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
What is Dunlops Leg supposed to mean??
8:32 😀😅. Now that I'd like 2 have seen 👍
everything is very.....beige.
It’s the 1980’s.
Like this show never understood what she saw in Martin.
She does explain that in one episode.
because she wasn't coping with life and he came along and said he'll cope for her , in true life she'd go off with Paul
I spot a chocobo at 6:50! Kweh!!!!
Ann is the perfect woman. Martin was jammy
Love this scene, but the director, got it wrong, we should have only seen Paul's face when he says "I'll kiss you now if you like"...
