    Good report, just few notes:
    1) Gyroscopes in your phone are not comparable in performance by any mean to that launched to spaces even in early days
    2) Wineglass gyroscope is a mechanical gyroscope (IT HAS MOVING PARTS).
3)Wineglass gyroscope is still in research phase. It didn't outperform the optical gyroscope which dominated the aerospace application regime for many decades.

But damn...the fitness bracelets and the almost end tech smartphones. I mean HTC had it around 2008 or so pretty good. And then are the ones with health tracking alike fitness bracelets. Of course aren't the same as the space ships ones.
Windows pocket pc be like: weeeeeeeeeeeeeee we're 1st. Gotcha;))

From what I know, the concept dates back to the 19th century and is inspired by the singing wine glass experiments. The wineglass gyro is a type of Hemispheric Resonator Gyroscope (HRG) that has now been replaced by the mushroom design. After decades of development, HRGs are fully functional and have been used since 2004 in satellites, in planetary exploration probes, for strategic accuracy systems, for borehole exploration, etc, counting millions of hours of flawless working. Although it is based on the observation of the movement of a wave controlled by a vibrating crystal, there are no moving parts like rotating masses in this type of gyro.

The PS3 Six Axis controller came out the same year with the launch of the system. The reason PlayStation and Nintendo introduced motion controls was because they were sued for using vibration motors in their previous controllers by a company called Immersion. Immersion was reportedly spurred to sue PlayStation by Microsoft, but Immersion sued all three major console manufacturers for using the technology. Microsoft settled, and the Xbox 360 controller kept traditional vibration. PlayStation and Nintendo used motion to pick up the slack with Nintendo keeping vibration by using a different form-factor controller. PlayStation eventually switched to linear vibration actuators for PS5 controllers, which Nintendo first used in the Switch Joy-Con. Both manufacturers retained gyroscope controls with vibration.

Phone gyroscopes are NOT. Phones use "accelerometer". Mechanical gyroscopes wear out and higher error. Military gyroscopes have lasers going in opposite directions rather than a spinning disk (based on doppler effect).
You can fool the phone accelerometers by moving the phone slowly.

One of the greatest proofs to a flat earth is the gyroscope. If you travel a straight level path as indicated on the gyroscope, you would eventually gain altitude if the earth was a ball. This does not happen. Also the “stunning images of space” are CGI. Cool cartoons!
