Based now in the Bay Area, Justine Frischmann (yes, former lead vocalist of seminal Britpop outfit Elastica!) imbues her abstract works with a beguiling and immersive ambience, from the balance of surface media to the floating back-framed aluminum panels bearing these compositions. Presented at VOLTA NY by George Lawson Gallery, San Francisco.
ABOUT VOLTA NY:
VOLTA NY | MARCH 2-6, 2016
An invitational solo project fair for contemporary art.
NEW LOCATION: PIER 90, NEW YORK
With mutual acknowledged VIP access with The Armory Show
VOLTA NY is the invitational fair of solo artist projects and is the American incarnation of the original Basel VOLTA show, which was founded in 2005 by three art dealers as a fair "by galleries, for galleries".
Since its debut in New York in 2008, Artistic Director Amanda Coulson re-conceived the format as a rigorously curated, boutique event - along the lines of a sequence of intense studio visits versus a traditional trade show environment. Since then VOLTA NY showcases relevant contemporary art positions from emerging international artists, from cutting-edge trendsetters to next year’s rising stars. Coupled with its approachable solo-booth format, the VOLTA team has created a fair that is both accessible to younger art-lovers and beloved by seasoned collectors alike. By spotlighting artists through primarily solo projects, VOLTA NY refocuses the art fair experience back to its most fundamental point: the artists and their works. A beacon for creative discovery during Armory Arts Week, VOLTA NY is likewise aligned with some of the best and boldest local cuisine and design collaborators in the city.
In March 2016, VOLTA NY returns to PIER 90 in the neighborhood of Hell’s Kitchen, New York City, adjacent to The Armory Show, the longtime anchor of Armory Arts Week on Piers 94 and 92. The Armory Show and VOLTA NY are affiliate fairs that provide complementary visions of the international contemporary art world. Both fairs share mutually acknowledged VIP access.
As an old elastica fan I really hope Justine is in a good place she looks happy and healthy in more recent photo's and interviews. The same goes for the rest of the band, the band really should have been massive with a string of albums to their name but the scene they got caught up in the 90's destroyed them as a band shame really. Anyhoo I only wish the best for all of them, nearly 25 years on and I still listen to them and watch their video's on YT wishing they had produced more its as if something is missing from them they burned out too quickly..............would I like to see them re-unite yes but not as a tribute act to former glories, I have rambled on a bit here so I will finish by saying I hope you are enjoying life Justine and are where you want to be, God bless an old fan.
you talk about her as if she was a homeless junkie in the 90s or something and she's gone through some massive miracle recovery. Her and Damon were on heroin for a while, so what? The relationship ended and the drugs got boring, I don't know why every other comment on youtube about Justine has this fascination with one period of her life when she was on smack. People make such a big deal out of it, as if there's always some other dimension to music celebrities that the public just HAVE To know about.
Elastica were alright, don't get me wrong, the earlier stuff was better imo. Went a bit 'basic' in terms of the songwriting but obviously got some coin and recognition from the Trigger Happy TV soundtrack.
@@bubbacalling well, you you were on drugs, you are in recovery FOR EVER. More if you used heroín. Maybe she had anal sex, but thats another story.
@@dannymcrooster4089 sounds like you're on the smack right now mate hahah
She is still gorgeous. I'm glad to see she's still being creative.
Why is everybody in the comments talking about her age?! She looks damn good for being 47. I love Justine; she's so effortlessly cool. She's like a small scale, british kim gordon in that aspect. She's very smart.
Agree - although her 'art' is complete shite.
Ha ha i just googled her lets just say a massive pay day is not far away. She can play with her colouring in books til the cows come home
Small scale? come on.
She honestly does look great regardless of being 47 in this video. Even if she were 30 I'd say she looked great. A lot of 90s grunge starlets didn't age well.
Kim Gordon is 67 though .
She has a nice voice. I bet she can sing
very funny😂
hahahha
i loovvveee her speaking voice (and her singing voice obviously)
I know it will never happen. But I'd love to see Elastica reunite.
Wout Vl (and now you will)
Unfortunately they're not reuniting. They met up while their debut album is getting reissued. (:
Awwww dammit, you're right! Well can't blame me for wishful thinking. They were a really excellent live band.
She´s showing you her artwork and you come up with that...
@@milugardeimagenysonido this was posted on the Elastica channel you mong.
She's so pretty.
Her work looks excellent.
Justine is my favorite singer, first time I ever heard them in Desert Sky Pavilion Phoenix Arizona Always my favorite !!
Her voice is so nice to listen to
Interesting how she's dropped the Mockney accent now she's no longer in a band. She went to one of the best private schools in the country, so she probably felt under pressure to sound more "street" in her youth.
I met her once. She's really nice.
If she was nice you'd have met her twice
She’s not terribly cute for a limess just saying.
@@TheRealCaptainFreedom what??
@@TheRealCaptainFreedom duesch
@@lissadawes4243 You calling me German?
This is really awesome. Thank you for sharing this video.
Justine, you're never going to read this, but you were my childhood crush. I wanted to get famous in my little band in high school just to meet you! Lol!
Still a total doll!
Justine is the coolest. She looks fantastic!
Fucking love her accent!! And her too...
Justine te amo!
She is so magnetic.
For me she will be the coolest forever. Is incredible how I always adore her...

@@johnsmith-wx5fb I think their sentence is correct; it's just a variant of Yodaspeak.
Justine Frischmann... swooon :) :)
Her voice is an angel voice.
Beauty girl.
A Beautiful Person, beautiful girl and a bad ass guitarist.
All your memories are lit very specifically but because your dad was stupendously loaded.
Haha!!
@@alisonharte76 tortured artist???? Ballocks!
So? He came to England at 14 with nothing and nobody, having been orphaned at Auschwitz. IMO, he deserves his good fortune.
Always had such a HUGE crush on Justine. In this interview she looks like Mariska Hargitay from Law & Order SVU especially in the video's thumbnail.
Good art
Its shite
My second grade teacher asked if I had trouble seeing because I did the same squinting rainbow producing stuff at that age………
Art means so little anymore.
She prob should go back to music, judging from her art.
I love you
I love Justine but her paintings are just something I don't get or understand!
There’s,nothing to get...either you like or not...the rest is arty farty babble.
Duuuuuuuuhhhh
Mines light to Christmas tree lights
I tell you what! Stewart Lee has let himself go
She was less pretentious in her younger days, check out the Glastonbury 2000 elastica set. London was a toxic environment? London made her...
Utter poppiecock @metube she grew up in Twickenham & attended the prestigious, St Paul's girls, any one would bite her hand off for that schooling opportunity, plus her dad designed flippin' centre point! ..as for London being toxic it's always a good thing to look at oneself before passing the blame for ones choices in life rather than to the city of 13 million people. That sentence doesn't sit well with me at all, from a born n raised Londoner.
Turned to art because she couldn't cover more Wire songs?
B Bobafett no because they don’t have any more Wire songs to rip off
That was the commenters point
Aww...jelly much?
How posh.
Rilly toxic enviromennnt yawn
Elastica were terrible, fabricated trash
Bad use of white
Ok Spielberg
Time is cruel, destroying bodies and beauty.
😂! That is so rude!
She seems pretty good for a woman who is now 47-48.
4748 Is a tad old
bitch you ugly as fuck shut up
Fuck off mate!
