I do like this. I'm from out of state, and probably will never go to Bakersfield. Been interested in this project and many others around the country, yet still very disappointed in parts of it being only 4 lane, and looks like would take a lot of more work to make it wider. Otherwise, it's nice, and good job. Thank you.
You bet Ron. It makes it so much easier to get to the 99 and to continue east on the 58 now. I think that for now, 4 lanes is okay. It's still not that busy of a freeway. When it is finally someday connected to Interstate 5, then I can imagine it being much busier, because in that time, the areas west of the current NW Bakersfield will be built out with a lot of new construction (homes). Thank you for watching! -Fred : )
Hi Armando, it's going to take some time I think for 58 to become an interstate. They are just now still trying to figure out how to add truck grade (right) lanes to the climb up to Tehachapi. In order for the 58 to become Interstate 40 (which I would love too), all of the "at-grade" crossings would have to be eliminated. And there are many of them between the start up towards Tehachapi all the way out to Barstow. The Interstate status requires no at-grade crossing. So we're talking a lot of money in order to do that. Also, they have been doing a lot of work in the past few years in order to get at least the Bako area's portion of CA SR 99 ready to become... Interstate 5 or Interstate 7... But they still have to do a lot of work north of Bako, such as around Delano, Tulare, and points north where, again to satisfy the requirements of the Federal Interstate status, portions of the road cannot exceed, say, 5 degrees for every 5,000 feet of roadway in turns or elevation changes. That's not the right set of numbers... but something like that. And as you probably know, there are a lot of turns and up's and down's as you go by those smaller northern towns. You really rock and roll a bit on the currrent CA SR 99. It's all about getting the funds. But I think that everything that you proposed will indeed be completed... someday. Thank you for watching. -Fred : )
It's so great. I'm constantly driving to Burbank and back, so going south now is so easy. Hoping 99 north to 58 west will be open soon. Can't wait! Thank you for watching, KernPlanespotting. -Fred : )
Thank you for bringing up the term, "Control City." I did not know that term, though I've wondered how they anchor the termini of mile markers. I would think that Santa Margarita would be the better choice since it ends just about a mile west of that town at US 101. Thank you for watching the video. Fred : )
@@RapidTopographyBarely anyone lives in Santa Margarita though so it makes more sense to make it SLO as well as some other city like Paso Robles (since CA-58 connects to I-5 which connects to CA-46, which is currently getting upgraded
It's a good point. Even when they get it connected to I-5 someday, there still wouldn't be any control city. Maybe Santa Margarita someday? Thank you for watching the video. Fred : )
Very interesting! Glad to see that road finally open fully, as are most of the folks who live there. Thanks Fred!
Yeah, it's so great that it's open. Hope you have a great week, MM! -Fred : )

I can’t wait until this highway is signed as Interstate 40!
And California 99 becomes either Interstate 7 or Interstate 9! Maybe California 233 can be rebuilt into Interstate 240!

There’s no control city for CA-58 westbound, that’s crazy, they should probably make it San Luís Obispo since 58 ends near SLO.

You were on H Street not Chester Ave when you turned around on eastbound Hwy 58. Otherwise good video. Bill formally from Bakersfieldj
You're right! Thanks Bill. I got turned around... literally. Fred : )
No control city going westbound, hmmm

@@RapidTopography San Francisco should be the control city IMHO
