Thanks for watching! Please post any questions or clarifications you're looking for and I'll answer here or film future videos about those topics!
Have you ever had an experience when cross where officials where concerned with any truck modifications, or verification of emission system to be in tacked?
Great content, real talk on overlanding! What are the negative aspects you or other have dealt with overlanding internationally? Worse case scenarios to be prepared for?
I'm curious to know how long it took and what your total expenses where for the Alaska to Argentina trip was
This content is gold.
Would be great to hear about how you choose places to overnight. Set campsites, wild camping, how you find them or decide where to stop, safety tips for wild camping etc. Really excited for this series. Thanks in advance
Nice one, I just put that on the list of future episodes, thanks!
This is my number one interest too!
I came over this channel by accident when I searched for the Northernmost point of Alaska and some dude on TripAdvisor linked your article.
I gotta say... Best accident ever.
Haha, great! I hope you enjoy all the upcoming info
Essentially, 'How to do Your Own Top Gear Special'
Such a good video! The way you explained overlanding in this video is spot on. We have only been through USA, Mexico, Belize and Guatemala overland before having to return to NZ. After 5 months in the USA we became scared to go to Mexico after constantly being told how dangerous it was. We were told we would be captured in the desert after we crossed the border, beheaded and our bodies buried in the desert. Even now, when we tell people we spent 6 months driving through Mexico, they ask "how much drugs did you take". "What about the Cartel". The border crossing was nothing like we expected and definitely not what you see on tv. The only drugs we were offered were from foreigners and we never knowingly met the cartel or had any problems with violence, not even the slightest. Yet our last week in NZ we had our car vandalised twice and my partner was assaulted. Our first night camping in the USA and a cop pulled a gun on us. The media is not a fair portrayal of the truth.
The most important part id that there are countless challenges along the way but also they all have solutions.
Can you do a video on cooling?
Specifically any mods or what system for you vehicle...
Was vehicle overheating a problem?
Any coolant improvements?
Did you ever blow a hose/radiator...what did you put in the jeep to cool it down?
Etc...
This would be a useful video.
Absolutely, great idea! (often overlooked vehicle "feature")
You have made a wonderful video. Every thing is explained and given encouragement to all the people who have dream of travelling.
this guy is amazing. I cant stop seeing his videos, so inspirational
love people who live their lives intentionally
I've enjoyed every minute of your adventures. And you explain things so clearly and bluntly. Looking forward to the next installment.
My quest to see the world led me to this channel. I have dreams to take a road trip through the southern states of America; not that I have ever been to any other country other than my home country Kenya. I just love road trips. I watch hundreds of Drive-through videos. fun. I envy guys who take road trips. Thank you for this channel. This is gold.
A video on vehicles that you saw during your travels that you wish would make there way to Canada 🇨🇦/United States If any.
It would be nice to hear about language barriers and best ways to deal with them when they do arise. Thanks for a great series!
Thanks for the suggestion, I just put it on the list!
I’m so glad you started a Chanel after reading your book and meeting you at Overland Expo East
Nice job, as always!
Clear, concise, relevant info. Excellent.
Love this
Amazing video! Thank you!

Very well presented. Great info 👏
As a kid my family had traveled all over USA and Canada and all over Mexico. I love to do it over again myself

very very informative !
quite good info and really inspiring to do . coz always have this feeling in mind that border will be big issue. , thanks
Great video mate, I think this will inspire lots of people... living the dream
Love the idea of this series, Dan. Your books and other videos have been a great source of inspiration for me. Would love to hear you talk about vehicle choice for international travel. I know you can drive anything anywhere but would love a discussion about international platforms. Especially from a Canadian perspective because I know we get left out of some of the better platforms. Can't wait to see what's next!
Excelente video y muy informativo! Como siempre. Gracias Dan!
De nada!!
Best knowledge you can ever get
Thank you, this was really helpful and inspiring🙏🏽❤️
You're so welcome!
Appreciate a lot your hard work and the generosity. Very informative, greetings from Sydney, Australia.
Cheers!
Like Dan I'm an ordinary person. I had a dream 12 years ago and started living it. In 2008/09 I rode from the east coast of Canada to the most southern city of South America by motorcycle for 9 months. I've since flown to several countries around the world, purchased motorcycles, and ridden around exploring for months. Now that I'm older and appreciate (need) more comfort, I'm building a truck and plan to travel as much of the world as I'm able. What Dan says in this video is on point. The world is much safer than the media would have you believe. It's not nearly as expensive. Treat people with kindness and respect and chances are you will be looked after. Be open to new challenges, different ways of doing things, and you will learn so much. It's not as hard as you might have been lead to believe. I've never met Dan. I started following his adventures just before he embarked on his African adventure. I'm happy to support him and have signed up to his new Patreon page. We need more of the type of message Dan is saying here.
Thanks very much for the real-world input and advice Robert, it's greatly appreciated!
I hope we can cross paths on the road some day. I'm in BC for the summer, let me know if you come out west!
@@TheRoadChoseMe It's almost surprising we have not already crossed paths. We've been to many of same places, had many of the same influences (Long Way Round, Jupiter's Travels - have you met Ted? awesome yet modest chap), been to some of the same overland events. I'm on the east coast. My current plans are to head to BC, via Europe, Africa, Asia, Oceania, South America then north, in about 10 or 15 years. But Covid has put that on pause. Being a long term traveller we need to be flexible, so maybe sooner.
Thanks for the video, best of luck.
Excellent video! Thanks for sharing. Looking forward to your next videos. Cheers.
Thanks!
Great video Dan!. I'll like to know more about the paperwork of getting to Egypt by own car/motorbike..
Mate!! This is exactly the sort of info i am after!! Really looking forward to more of your videos!
Cheers Lee from England.
Great to hear Lee, tons more videos incoming. New ones drop every Monday and Thursday.
Looks that i will watch all your videos.
Great job
Thanks! Let me know if you think of any topics you'd like me to cover
I only recently discovered your informative videos. Thank you for your time and effort in putting together these videos, they are enjoyable and I hope it inspires many to get out there.
Glad you like them!
Excellent information to dispel lot of myths & unknowns.
I read your book prior to meeting you at Overland Expo East last year. Your energy is contagious. Thanks for the great content.
Thanks for the kind words! Hopefully we can catch up at East again this year (fingers crossed)
great stuff Dan,
One topic which would be interesting is finding out about the local attractions, the basic talk to other campers you meet is great but finding good local knowledge is gold.
I like to wing when traveling cafe and gas stations are sometimes very helpful with finding attractions, speaking only english can be limiting in some places.
Crossing the border from Nepal to Tibet was interesting mainly as our tour operator upset somebody, but as you say be polite and smile and it'll be a lot easier.
Now We are stranded on that big island yes, but I figure there is about 10 or 20 years worth of overlanding to do here without leaving LOL.
Great video . Greetings from London 🇬🇧
Thank you very much!
I'm currently renovating my vehicle. So glad I discovered your videos. Great information! So VERY motivating! And so, a VERY BIG THANK YOU!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks again Dan. Really enjoying your style and content. Vehicle choice - pros and cons of your Jeep would be very interesting and informative.
Absolutely, I'll get into that soon!
One of two overland channels i love. Rich content. Well laid out. Straight to the point. You deserve a million subscriptions. Love from Nairobi, Kenya.
Thanks Michael!
You just the exactly guy iam looking for and big thank you for all the informations sir
No problem 👍
What a great and beautiful way to make others to understand really brother appreciate thank you 😊......
Thank you very much to share your experience of overland from Alaska to Argentina! That is my bulk list, just do not have any experience of car camping, your video is very inspiring!
You can do it!
Excellent video - thanks Dan! Your video on the best approach to police stops in Africa got us around southern and East Africa with ease, without paying a single bribe. Looking forward to the rest of your videos, to be watched while we wait for coronavirus to go away and for retirement!
Great! I'm really happy to hear the video came in handy.
Great. I'm so glad about your videos and advises. They are so helpful for me. I'm planning to travel to Argentina this year but I had to put it off until the Coronavirus pandemy ends.
I'm happy to hear they are helpful! Let me know if you have a specific topic you want me to cover!
Just came across your channel surfing UA-cam. Great information. Getting ready to retire and looking for adventure. Have been looking at Pan American Highway and the Great American loop (by boat). I was thinking about truck with slide in camper for Pan American. Never thought about fitting in shipping container. Great Info, keep it coming.
Thank you
Wow! Great channel with really important and valuable content! Well done. I just subscribed today.
I'm driving Mercedes Sprinter and G-Wagon internationally.
Cheers from
BC Canada
Welcome aboard, maybe I'll see you around BC!
Thank you
Really thank you, I searched a lot but it's hard to find info
Such a comprehansive video espiceally about the car status and trip ticket
Happy to hear it was useful! Checkout all my more recent ones too for more deep-dives into each topic!
Your channel is priceless!!! It's given my wife and I the gumption to turn our Subaru Outback into an Overlanding rig to travel the country!
Your Subaru is already all you need to explore all over Alaska and the Yukon, and even south on the Pan-American Highway!
Your video is very helpful for new person who want to go international overland travel .Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks!
You bet!
👌🏻 I learn of this video
I remember in Cambodia, where old Toyota Camrys go to die, they are converted to LPG, and filled from roadside huts with large gas bottles.
A video on culture before you go about the little customs and cultural things you learned, discovered, and should know before you go. One for South America and for Africa.
Great idea, will do!
Great vid Dan. Looking forward to the follow up on vehicle shipping and whether there are other options other than container shipping and the + & - cheers
Coming soon!
I'm interested in shipping options too.
I'd love to see a video from you on "Rooftop VS Ground Tents" . I'm struggling with the decision, and noticed you've done both.
On another note, fantastic content. Really hope you keep it up.
That video is coming for sure!
I’m so glad this video popped up in my feed. We were just talking about doing a trip to Argentina in our 80 series LC in the fall.
Awesome James, let me know if you have any questions or concerns you'd like me to address in a future video!
The Road Chose Me I was curious about income while you’re on the road. I saw you spent a few years on one trip so do you just save up and budget or do you use Patreon or do remote work while traveling?
I'll film a video about that very soon! But for 99% of overlanders, it's save up and live off that.
The Road Chose Me I figured. Patreon accounts don’t hurt either as a supplemental income either if you can manage it. I also enjoyed your video about tire size.
This information was very useful, hoping to overland Africa and Central America on day.
Amazing man, that’s my life time dream to overland Alaska to Argentina!
You CAN do it! I promise, it really is possible if you work hard enough!!
Go Daniel. I did it 12 years ago. It changed my life. It changed how I think of the world. I haven't stopped travelling since. Go. Keep an open mind and you won't regret it. Promise.
I agree with Robert. I did it with a backpack over a few years travelling the world and it is the most awesome experience ever. The best thing I found was you can have a "holiday" from your holiday. Every now and again, I'd book into a posh business hotel and get totally over excited by things like cornflakes in the breakfast buffet. That took the stress out of things.
very informative. you should look into the Stardust Crusaders route from a TV show. Something I plan on doing in the future. Goes from Singapore through India, eventually ending in Egypt.
Not sure if you remember, we met at Expo East and I had the crown victoria. hope to see more videos soon!
Nice, I'll have a look at that. Always loved the Crown Vic!
New videos every Monday and Thursday from now on!
I watched every single episode of your African series, and they were absolutely amazing! You should make a detailed video about living in a camper, such as sleeping or showering haha
Hey Leo, I'm happy to hear you enjoyed the videos! Absolutely I need to film more "day to day" life stuff from my big expeditions
Dan, you are still one of my heroes! Thanks for the vid and keeping me inspired thru these crazy times to continue to travel as a single woman. At the moment, I’m looking to stay in the America’s, focusing on driving to Alaska and to Tuktoyaktuk. Can you share what resources you started with and used to research your route and planning via the internet?
Hi Rose, thanks for the kind words! Absolutely, I can go over that!
I love your channel. I just found it a couple days ago and I'm slowly working my way through your videos. I'm not very far into this one but I just want to say, you're not just an ordinary guy. You sound like Crocodile Dundee for goodness sakes! You sound like you were made for adventure!
Welcome aboard! - and HAHA, thanks!
Just came across your channel and so glad I did, very informative, as I too have overland dreams in the future. I was surprised that you explained paperwork for getting in and out of countries as easy and CPD Carnet as not necessary, as that is my number 1 concern. My route would take me from Australia then north through Asia to Europe, and from my research a Carnet is absolutely necessary. Not to mention some countries such as Thailand which prohibits foreign vehicles altogether, or Myanmar and China which do not allow overland travel freely without a guide. Would definitely like to hear your future episode specifically on CPD Carnet. Cheers!
Hi Damar,
Your route is for sure "harder" and requires a Carnet. I'll do that video soon!
Thanks
Damned!😱 I don’t have any more reason not to do it! 🤣Thanks you!🙏🤘
Like your series a lot. Very clear and uncomplicated advice. One thing about been able to travel to and through every country, if you’re in a RHD vehicle there are some countries that are hard or impossible to get in.
Right, I'll do a video about that soon!
@@TheRoadChoseMe That would be great. Some countries like UK allow their citizens register both LHD and RHD vehicles but others like mine, NZ, don't unless its a vintage or something like that.
Remember when you're driving the world it doesn't matter if a country won't let you register a "wrong hand drive" - i.e. I drove my LHD Jeep through Namibia which absolutely does not let LHD be registered locally.
Because as tourists we are just "temporarily importing" them, which is a whole different set of rules.
As it stands right now no country on earth does not allow LHD vehicles to pass through. A few do not allow RHD vehicles.
Great summary of the requirements. The biggest thing I'm desperate to know about is regarding taking a trailer with you. Something robust like a Conqueror 490. It would be nice to have just a little more living space that the interior of a vehicle provides for 2 people, but the thought of the additional unknown headaches that may come along with bringing a trailer make me trepidatious more than anything else. Would love to hear any insights, positive or negative, that you have regarding a worldwide expedition with a trailer vs without. Thanks for all the info and videos you share! I can't wait for the next big adventure, but this videos are fantastic as well.
Hey Matt & Amy, thanks very much!
I will make a whole video about trailer pros and cons. It's a personal choice, and comes down to what kind of trip you want!
Thank you for another wonderful video! I think I am watching them out of order, but all the same, I am LOVING them! What do I want to know about: hygiene! Did you always sleep in your vehicle? If so, how do you keep your self clean and how did you keep your vehicle clean? I have seen some of your videos in desert's and very muddy places, what happens to your bedding? When and how do you wash your self, your clothing, your bedding, etc.
Thanks Sam, I'll add that to the list of future topics!
nice vedio
Nice ☺️
❤️&✌️
On your travels which countries did to need the Carnet for and for those that you were using just the vehicle registration how many countries request a cash bond of some kind upon entry?
I'll cover that in an up coming video!
Great video as always! I'm considering doing a trip from the US down to Ushuaia on a 250cc motorcycle. I know you have only done trips in a Jeep but I would be curious to see a video with a guest who has done it on a smaller motorcycle.
Many thousands of thousands of people have done it, and loved it! checkout advrider.com for TON of people that have really done it.
@@TheRoadChoseMe Great recommendation! I just read the trip report of a guy taking his 125cc over to Mongolia from Spain. Crazy!
Fantastic content thanks for sharing. I would like to ask for a jeep tour and tell us more about shipping your vehicle and sleeping in the middle os nowhere. How did you start in 4x4 and if you recommend some or any training ?
Thanks for the ideas, will do!
Great video and very helpful, I'm planning to drive my Evo 6 from England to Japan. I also would like to drive across the USA in it and in to Canada.
Thanks for the info. I’m at the Southern tip of Africa thinking of a trip to Europe
It's the trip I'll never forget as long as I live! Go for it!
Appreciate your positive attitude ;-) Can you please cover the spareparts you carried with you when traveling through Africa. Probably no crankshaft position sensor for a Jeep out there in DRC...
Will do! (And that IS something I carry!)
Great video. Love this channel. What are your ideas on taking an electric vehicle overland? Maybe with a gas powered generator as backup?
I don't know much about them, but I think if it breaks down there will be nobody remotely close who can repair it, especially if it's computer problems.
I am an indonesian and your english are so good
Please do a vid about CDP, roof mounted tent, vehicle modification especially electrical things like secondary battery
I agree, I'd like to see how much standing room you have with the rollbar modification, how the bed system folds away and how much space you have when in the bed.
He does have a video detailing the water system and installing the roof.
