Megan, one of the best way to test bread to see if it is finished baking is to use an instant read thermometer. Most breads are good at 190 to 200 degrees. No guessing on my part.

My husband is such an encouragement to me... I homeschool 3 and we do a lot of ministry stuff. I love a clean organized house and made from scratch foods. And a garden, and a nicely landscaped backyard and an organized garage...I also love to host and have groups over from church. Sooooo reality is - I can't be good at everything and not everything has to be perfectly organized. NY husband always says to me " be gracious to yourself in the same way that you are gracious to the boys!" Such a good reminder! Grace upon grace!❤

So funny story. I have a brand new grain mill and a giant bag of wheat berries in the pantry and they’ve been there for over 6 months 🤦🏻‍♀️ you’ve given me inspiration to bust it out and actually use it! Did you know wheat berries are shelf stable for 50 years!!? Amazing

Hi Megan. I know I'm very late to the party, so don't know if you'll even see this, but when I make kebabs I put the meat on one, the peppers on another, the onions on another etc... I find they cook at different rates so if I put them all together the onions may be still crunchy when the meat is done and the tomatoes might be mush. If done separately you can get each thing just the way you like it. I put zucchini on sometimes or cubes of sweet potato. I love your channel!

I took up your recommendation for Ritual when I got pregnant.... They are good! Just think could be helpful for you to mention you can change the scent in future videos! I was pushing my way through the mint ones even though mint made me feel sick in pregnancy... Only to discover about 7 months in you can change the smell to orange!!! 😂
Love your videos. Little bit of joy in my day from a fellow Christian. Keep up the good work. ❤️

I ❤ to watch your experiment baking/cooking. I also ❤❤ that you include the some of the less successful attempts. A new recipe isn’t complete until I have doubted the process. But it is nice to know that cooks I admire have the same thoughts. Your Chicken Pot Pie recipe is the one I use now for my soup - so thank you for that!

I have a a Kitchenaid stand mixer too,bit I didn't know there was a wheat grinder attachment that I could get for it. That's great! I would love to grind my own flour sometimes, as well as start baking homemade bread. The attachment will save me from buying another kitchen gadget that my daughters tell me I don't need!😄..I love how you aren't afraid to try new things,Megan,it's very encouraging.😊💖

Closer to where I live-in Grand Rivers KY-is a restaurant called Pattis 1880’s settlement. They are known for their flower pot bread & strawberry butter they serve as an appetizer with every meal. Delicious! You should definitely stop by there if you happen to be passing through. I say yours turned out very well for 1st try. Great video 💗

I have several attachments for my kitchen aid that I love. One was the strainer to replace my hand-cranked Victorio strainer. It is great for making tomato juice. I also have the grinder because I wanted to make a sandwich spread like my grandmother used to make by grinding smoked sausage and boiled eggs. I recently got the grater attachment when my food processor quit working. I haven't used it yet.

Recommendation for bread bakers. If you don't want to cut into your bread to see if it's done, get a thermometer and once you get an interior temp of 190°, your bread is done. I use my digital thermometer and go up through the bottom, making sure to go in all the way to the center. Works every time.

p.s. So fun to see you parent Miller. Looks like he is ready to take over cleaning the floors! It brought back memories to see you walking him at your mom's. Walking that slowly was one of the more painful parts of being out with the kids when I was conscious of needing to lose weight and they walked minus five miles an hour, stopping to look at every pebble and blade of grass....and had no interest in being in a carriage. Bet your mom loved seeing her baby on the swing with her baby! So special.

I’m surprised you don’t end up using your beef roasts. I think pot roast is the easiest thing to make on Sunday for lunch. I sear the roast then stick it in the oven for one hour at 400*, then turn it down to 325-350*, put the carrots and maybe potatoes in the pot and leave for church. When we get home, it’s all done. We do have a bit of a drive to church and our service is an hour and a half, so it bakes longer, bu tits so easy and yummy!

I had never heard of baking bread in terra cotta pots, what a cute idea! A tip on knowing how long to bake your bread is that it is usually just right (at least for my preference) when it has an internal temp of around 200 degrees. 😊

What an interesting video! The flower pot bread looks amazing! I had a bread making book that had flower pot bread in it. I've not tried it yet but I feel inspired now. Steam continues to cook the bread inside the crust if it's left to cool. Knocking on the bottom to test for a hollow sound is a good way to check if it's done without having to cut it. Thanks for a great video!😊

Hi Megan, my auntie use to bake bread in pots and they were much smaller than yours and use to rise out of the pots if that’s any help. I’m certainly going to try your raspberry butter and it got me thinking of other fruits I could use (be lovely with scones). I make garlic butter but never thought to do sweet ones. I always by local honey from a farm shop it tastes so much better. I’m not a fan of sweet coffee but I do like iced coffee. I really enjoyed today thanks I love spending time with you over a coffee.

A lot depends on the humidity and various other factors. You just start with the amount and add more as needed to get to the texture you are looking for.

I've been experimenting with fresh ground flour. It's important to autolyse, which is mixing the flour and water for letting set for 20 to 30 min. Then adding the other ingredients. I do sourdough, so I mix the starter in right away. I don't know when you would add yeast so you could experiment with that.

We use the meat grinder attachment for the KA mixer to grind our own meat for the twos us. When we can find a really good sale on meats we buy a small bulk batch and this way we can control the fat also. I have also used it for grinding dried apricots for my Apricot Balls or dates for Date rolls at Christmas time. Those sticky dried fruits are impossible for me to cut up without my grinding attachment. I wanted the pasta roller but we try to stay off a lot of pasta so that really was not needed even tho I sure would like to play with it. If we weren’t in our twilight years I would most definitely be trying the mill attachment. Thanks for the demo❣️

I just learned today that for fresh ground bread you need to add 1/4 cups additional flour for every cup!

All you need to get bread to rise in your oven is to turn on light! Always works for me!

Hello. Enjoy your videos . With beef cubes I cut then in tiny pieces, then sauté in olive oil. The add a splash of wistersire sauce and a turn or two of steak sauce. I serve it with Goya yellow rice. I like when you take the meat and all the sauce and mix it in to cooked yellow rice . My kids like to keep it separate. I was skeptical because my friend gave me the recipe and I thought the stew meat would be tough it’s not and so good. One of my kid’s favorite. So simple the longest part is waiting 20 minutes for rice to be done. Have a great weekend

Hey Megan! Love your Vlogs every Thursday! ...so I'm a pretty regular bread baker and have baked 30 loaves at a time on many occasions. One thing that is vital for good bread is kneading it; this will cause gluten to form in your dough...its basically a must to knead it for no less then 10 minutes in the mixer or with your hands..your choice...it gives it the stretch (aka chance to form gluten or protein) it needs to get a good rise...to check the gluten content take a small piece of dough and gently pull it part; when you can form a somewhat transparent "window" then you have an adequate amount of gluten development to form a beautiful loaf of bread...I can't quite tell you all the science behind it. But i hope the little I have shared will help..Wishing you many more happy baking days!😊

One tip about Ritual. The mint flavor was way tooooo much for me, they said to take out that little thing in the bottle that keeps them fresher. It takes some of the mint intensity.

As someone who bakes almost daily haha, I have always found just putting my dough in the oven with the light on creates a nice warm environment for the rise as well! My husband likes our house pretty cold so had to get creative 😂

What do you do if your oven doesn't have a light?

    • @jackimanley3056
      @jackimanley3056 Рік тому +1

@@senseijoyner you can turn the oven on for a few minutes (5 ish) so it just begins to get warm. Then turn it off and open the door and put dough in. If it feels too warm leave door cracked.

Keep experimenting with the bread… I love making bread it has changed over the years… first yeast breads then fresh ground wheat bread for years. The last 10 years sour dough bread… I use different grains and grind them. My last experiments have been the artisan breads the best yet. I have always kneaded my breads first by hand and now for 25 years with my Bosch mixer. That is neat you got a grinder attachment for your mixer. I’ve had those flower pots at Terrain and several other places ,so good they bring it right to the table with bread in them. I’ve never done that but have put several in a muffin tin when my bread was still proofing and I quick wanted bread for dinner.

For your spring coffee syrup idea, you're gonna think I'm crazy... Lavender latte syrup! I do NOT reccomend drinking hot, lol. Definitely iced only. It's the weirdest thing you'll probably ever put in your mouth, but somehow...strangely good and refreshing. My sister brought it over and I was terrified to try it
