I like Puustinen, but DOC was practically a PPG player in the A. Smaller sample size, I get it, but people keep undervaluing DOC's offensive abilities.
I completely agree with you. It seems because he doesn't look or play like your typical goal scorer. But he is an effective player in so many ways and is now scoring nhl goals. Remember his play earned him the gentz spot. Neither rak, nor smith, nor pusti ect. played well enough to take it from him.
Emil Bemstrom is a 0.8 GOALS per game in the AHL, that doesn't mean anything when it comes to NHL level. That being said, DOC was definitely productive whenever he played more than 15 minutes, I hope he can take another step this season...
@jksilta9335 I believe harkins was close to that in the ahl too hahhaha,, but at this point, doc has proven he has figured out ways to score at the nhl level. It will go a long way for the penguins if he can add to his progress this season, as well as pusti finding another level.
I think Puusty played timidly last year and Sullivan probably got into in his head with “play good defense, back-check and no mistakes”(no creativity). Another problem is playing Puusty on the bottom 6. Sully is misusing him. He’s not like a Rust/Poulin who can start on the bottom 6 and play his way up to a top 6 role. To play on the bottom 6 for the Pens you have to be good defensively and play on the PK to get full bottom 6 minutes. Puusty should be playing on a line with playmakers and at least get some PP PT. Or else they are misusing him.
Beau-hayes-pusti doesn't sound exciting, but if hayes is a play maker and Beau is a bit of a energy guy then pusti could be the sniper (we know he has the shot). That line could work and be sneaky good.
Bottom 6 scoring was non existent but the PP was so bad. How many games did they lose by 1 goal? what was the PP rank? I am looking forward to seeing Ponamarev, Koivunen, poulin and puusty in camp/pre season.
Fleury gets credit for 3 in my book fleury in 2016 they couldn’t take from Murray because how he was playing I don’t think he was better than fleury and 2017 penguins don’t win against Washington or game 2 against senators without fleury
The way Pustey (last game of season) scored - goal overturned - then scored again & counted … says a lot .

I'd love to see Puustinen and Pulijiarvi really get to the next level, because suddenly this team would be loaded on the RW.
Malkins numbers were pretty good considering the play of one RS on many nights and even RR
Once they went with Malkin, Bunting, and RR at the end of the season that line looked really solid.

What level did you two cool guys play hockey? Hahaha. Just curious.
