    There is no way in hell you are running that mono/wire through the spinal cord canal down to the tail. You want to test that??? Leave the wire in place and fillet the fish. You'll see that the wire is running outside the spinal cord canal. It's always so amazing how people keep doing stuff backward and saying it is correct. Probably only one 1 in 10 or 1 in 20 attempts actually find a path to get into the spinal cord canal.

    I use stainless bicycle brake cable. I’ve heard that by stopping the muscle twitching it stops the build up of lactic acid in the meat. The lactic acid changes the ph in the meat that is more favourable to bacterial growth. Lactic acid is produced by the muscle movement/ twitching with insufficient oxygen in the blood.
    Kahawai treated like this will remain fresh in the fridge for many days.

    This is not correct ! Why teach people THE WRONG WAY to do something???
    The CORRECT way:
    1. Brain spike the fish. This renders the fish brain dead (no suffering), but nerves and heart are still working.
    2. Since the heart is still pumping, bleed the fish by cutting the gills inside a bucket of water. (Water keep blood from coagulation and stopping flow)
    3. Cut the tail to expose the spine. DO NOT insert the wire INTO the spine, as thats not where the central nerve is. The central nerve is ABOVE the spine !!!
    The method show here is from someone who doesn't have a clue what they are doing, and is doing a HUGE disservice to folks seeking information.

      Yeah I was about to say that. Plus, using thin wire is so much easier than using line. Line has too much slack so it's impossible to tell if it's actually going down the spine and not just bundling up at the entrance.

    For most fish, it may be easier to stab the brain from underneath because the skull of the fish is thinner on the underside. Stab the brain with a knife from behind the gill flaps, like this:

    Good to see the abundance of snapper over the ditch, here in South Australia we have a state wide, indefinite ban on taking snapper, for both recreational and pro fisherman

      We're getting there in QLD. There is a new no take period which applies in snapper spawning season. Pearl perch also are a no take in that period.

      Its not state wide the southeast only has the spawning ban and its also not indefinite its only 3 years to help the species recover from drastically being over fished, however drastic measure are often needed to repair drastic situations😮 i hope this time is used by fellow fishermen and the government wisely to think about why this has come to be, and work together to make sure it never happens again😉 this can happen to all marine species in every part of the world very easily so as humans its up to us to protect our environment 👍

      Hey mate why is this the case? Just not many snapper in Australia to begin with or is your fisheries not setting commercial quotas properly, I am very interested in Australias fishery because I believe the fishery over there affects our fishery in new Zealand and visa versa, that's why I think Australian kingfish should have the legal size raised as those 65cm are still sexually juvnile and it is often thought that kingfish migrate between nz and au, maybe wrong tho am not sure

      @@Nofishnoclue Sadly we here in Australia seem to be following by example USA style "go big or go home" seriously though, over fishing is the reason for stock losses in most cases whether this be over fishing by species, method or by habitat destruction it all affects the population, unfortunately most politicians don't care about the future or getting/listen to advice before "it hits the fan" im from Victoria and in the past 30 years it seems the state government has learnt to listen to the real experts as the major and some minor environments are starting to be protected from being raped clean, but as some may or may not be aware we still have a long way to go.
      I don't think you need worry about your snapper stocks being depleted by us as i don't think they come from here but im no expert, as for the kings and other pelagic fish, our and other countries habits could potentially affect your stocks but again im no expert so can't say how much, i do know that Victorian fish stocks have been getting stronger and stronger since these changes have been implemented, let's hope other states follow this example 👍

    Interesting i assume this can be done with all fish but is it affective enough to be worth doin? Like on a tuna or kingfish? I mostly let my bigger snapper go unless they wont survive, but usually keep a few 35-40 cm ones for the table, if not making sashimi would you recommend doing this? Tbh i like the idea in general tyvm for your video👍

      Peter Eaton . Once you try this on a King fish you will always do it. The results are astounding.

    This is not a humanistic way. Fish is feeling pain of death as far as to its each cells and dies millon and millon times. Why don' t you prefer to kill it by hiting to head suddenly? Fishes deserves respect. They feed us without any response.

      Every fish that we keep is spiked (Iki) as soon as it's on the boat, this is the most humane way to dispatch a fish.
