Anyone who give that much attention to their ride, puts in that much thought, hard work, dedication into the smallest of details, that person DESERVES RESPECT. Props to the lowrider community from this foo whose into drifting Nissans.
I grew up in Chicago, back in the mid 90's lowriding took off over there!!!! My first lowrider was a 84 Cutlass Supreme named Chupa Cabra, Roadsters for rims, candy paint with flakes, black rag top and a mural on the trunk. In 97 I moved to Nashville, Tn and there was nothing, I was the only one in the city with a lowrider, unfortunately I had to sell my car. To this day there is still no lowriders over here, but I plan to changed that. Im now searching for a Cutlass and start my dream car all over again!!!! Its in my blood, I think about it everyday!!!
Correction: In a rush to bring Joe's great video to you, we misspelled his last name on the title credit. It's R-A-Y! HUGE apologies to the Lowrider legend.
@gtilover11 It's a 63-65 Buick Riveria. GM styling boss Bill Mitchell envisoned a car that was a cross between a Rolls-Royce and a Ferrari - elegant and sporty - and this was the result. It was originally intended to be badged a LaSalle for Cadillac, but Cadillac turned it down, and the design was given to Buick instead.
Great interview with joe, I started off lowriding, then transitioned to street rods because I like all styles of custom car building, Ive had my own shop and appreciate the artistic expression of the visionary dreamer who makes his dream a reality !
Finally someone with a BRAIN with opinions on cars It doesnt matter what you do your car When you get that 10 second stare or look back or someone asks you about it All the work and time is worth it
Great video. It was cool seeing Joe Ray on here. He's lowrider legend and has been Lowrider Magazine editor since '07 after he took over from Ralph Fuentes another legend. It was also cool seeing Saul Vargas he's been with the magazine since I can remember.
I only ever saw one low-rider that made me stop and think, "WOW!" It had tail-fins. That was the moment that I became a fan of tail-fins, but I didn't know enough then to actually identify what that particular car was. I still don't know what that was, but I do know that the 1967-1960 or so Chryslers (and that includes Dodge and DeSoto, but not actually not Plymouth (sorry Christine)) are just fantastic. I am admittedly a Mopar guy so there's gotta be some bias, but DAMN they're cool.
Hey MotorTrend, here's an idea for you. Since you did a coverage about "Lowriders", you have to do a segment on the movement "Hellaflush'd". I'm sure you can find just as descriptive footage to those people that flush out their car's stance. Other than that, nice job with this episode though...very interesting.
those last few lines of the great speech moved me, its awesome to see such spirits and so much efforts they put in those marvelous art works its tremendous. Loving it Peace
Zinc Wingman seeing your profile pic on this particular video is kinda cool, because a few friends and I are starting a bicycle group called "The cousins of anarchy", and my friend Dawn's lowrider Schwinn tricycle, covered with spikes, chrome skulls, and twisted everything is going to be like our flagship when we cruise through town.
I like that Joe Ray guy; he has a really great outlook on stuff. I'm not even a lowrider type of guy and I definitely respect his opinions about it. There's always gonna be hoodlums in a group, but don't let that shape your judgment on the whole group.
@BBoyCrownedOne the hellaflush screws up the frame and a few other components, low riders can destroy multiple parts including the pillars for the roof crushing the car when it goes upside down. the hip hop side ruins cars by slowly rattling the car apart with the loud bass and causing more stress to the motor and transmission due to the large rotation mass caused by the big rims and very little rubber on them.
@BBoyCrownedOne Art is the perfect way to describe these different subcultures of car culture. I used to hate on these subcultures, but I do see that it takes work, special taste, and attention to detail to really appreciate all these subcultures. For example, I hate hellaflush, but understand (just as mentioned in the video) there are many sacrifices to get that stance that defines hellaflush.
Eddie Guerrero (R.I.P.) made Lowrider world famous. Before that some had heard about it only in a rock song by the band War or more likely the Exodus' version of "Lowrider".
@Lilmiddwest Your right man lowriders is not about gangs at all many car clubs are family oriented and do good things for the community. Also when it comes to mexicans (Mexicans are from Mexico) they didn't invent the lowrider it was Chicanos (Americans of Mexican descent.) but for a while now anyone regardless of their ethnicity can be into lowriding. That doesn't mean people should forget about it's roots.
I like Hot Rods most, but when I watch this, I think that these guys are really good artist! Just look at the attention to detail, the paint job. Just every little part is treated with respect! But I have to say that the girl on 4:00 is very, very pretty!!
Low Riders have been celebrating American Auto Makers for over 60 years. They refurbish classic cars that were the best cars made for that era. Unfortunately the American car industry has been forced to the curb by Foreign car companies in the last few decades. Low Riders bring back the Pride Americans showed in their car making expertise. Really beautiful old cars brought back to life!
I love loweriders... everysince driving my uncles and being in it riding on three wheels i fell in love, but i still love my mustangs and muscle car... im basically a all around car guy ford, chevy, dodge, imports, exotics... it dnt matter
As I have always understood hydraulics and lowriding go hand in hand. Not Air Ride Suspensions. I understand that is becoming the prevailing concept in feasibility of productive customs of enthusiasts seeking that type of modification to his vehicle over hydraulics largely.
I Can't afford a classic American car here in Australia (and if I'm honest im not mechanically minded enough to build one anyway). I appreciate the artistic flair on display on these cars and I guess that's what sucked me in. Like I said I don't have the disposable income to afford one of these beautiful machines let alone giving it the attention and workmanship it would deserve however I do have two Lowrider bicycles in the works though.👍👍
Lots of time and money goes in those cars, I can appreciate all automobiles cultures, from imports to lowriders to hotrods, it's all a passion n culture
Lowriders, you either hate it or love it. I particularly don't like them but they're still built cars. People put money, blood, sweat, and tears into them. Ive seen a handful of tasteful lowriders. Function lives forever, but like a trend like stance, slammed, lowriders etc. They'll last a long time.
i would like it if they would show some bagged trucks or things that are static dropped and not only look at one section of the lowrider style then i would have enjoyed this more
i love ALL types of cars, japanese drifters, american muscle, germans like Audi and Mercedes... but i doubt there's ANY type of car as unique and characteristic as the lowriders! god its a shame cars aren't made this way any more
@BBoyCrownedOne performers are expected to deal with stress if you are running on the same block that came from the showroom floor. i grew up as a gear head, grease monkey, and a pit rat. if it tells you anything my first automotive word was carburetor. i even taught myself how to drive a manual when i was thirteen, and i only missed a gear once. sorry i ran out of characters to finish in one post good point but there is good art and bad art, if anything drifting is the best of them all.
I can't say one style is better than another. I wanna put aspects of everything in the stuff I build. I drag race primarily but give me a set of thin whites with some 13 inch knockoffs n I'm a happy guy also..Idk,maybe I'm just a different egg, lol.
I feel you, If I had money, I'd have a car of every main culture out there, lifted truck, bagged C-10, Texas style single cab truck, JDM, muscle new and old, lolo, sleeper, hot rod, rat rod, race car, but.... I can only dream....
F-12 VIDEOS just get anything n start messing with it,eventually it'll be one of those styles, lol. Most everything can be cool if you show it enough love.
Bob Falfa I with you, man. My 3 dream cars are: 1.A street/strip '69 Dodge Charger 2. A '63 Split window Stingray (hopefully with a license plate that says "IRWIN". lol) 3. A '59 Miller Meteor Hearse with airbags, purple underglow, flame thrower exhaust, either Cragars or Daytons, and a stereo you can hear from six blocks away. I love all styles.
@dwad1skrubz Yeah I was like wtf that's Chumlee from Pawn Stars my mom watches that show sometimes. He lives in Vegas so he probably was at the annual Lowrider Supershow.
@TheMontecarlo85 Well to each his own man. I like classics originally restored cars, Lowriders, some Kustoms, some dubs as well as stock cars. I do want to own a lowrider someday but i wont make it all crazy looking just maybe original looking with hydros.
Anyone who give that much attention to their ride, puts in that much thought, hard work, dedication into the smallest of details, that person DESERVES RESPECT. Props to the lowrider community from this foo whose into drifting Nissans.

Hats off to all of those involved who create these rolling pieces of art. I applaud you.
we may be stuck in the past, but that's a good world to be in.
Correction: In a rush to bring Joe's great video to you, we misspelled his last name on the title credit. It's R-A-Y! HUGE apologies to the Lowrider legend.
lowriding will never die its a lifestyle its a culture.
it's a culture, I'll give you that, but owning a certain kind of custom car is not a lifestyle
@gtilover11 It's a 63-65 Buick Riveria. GM styling boss Bill Mitchell envisoned a car that was a cross between a Rolls-Royce and a Ferrari - elegant and sporty - and this was the result. It was originally intended to be badged a LaSalle for Cadillac, but Cadillac turned it down, and the design was given to Buick instead.
the dude @0:42 tried to give a clever answer but said a huge nonsense...
I'm sure it made sense to him
Bro thats Joe ray!!! Legend in Lowriding!!!! From the cars he's made to even his club!!
To being at the top of lowrider magazine
I think what he was trying to say that anything other than a low rider is not normal
Great interview with joe, I started off lowriding, then transitioned to street rods because I like all styles of custom car building, Ive had my own shop and appreciate the artistic expression of the visionary dreamer who makes his dream a reality !
@Neoliasm There's room for all on The Downshift. Stay tuned for some great tuner and drifting episodes coming soon.
I don't know why I just love lowriders!
Finally someone with a BRAIN with opinions on cars
It doesnt matter what you do your car
When you get that 10 second stare or look back or someone asks you about it
All the work and time is worth it
1963 ss impala,my first car in high school in 1972.My favorite car of all times and always will be.😎
Great video. It was cool seeing Joe Ray on here. He's lowrider legend and has been Lowrider Magazine editor since '07 after he took over from Ralph Fuentes another legend. It was also cool seeing Saul Vargas he's been with the magazine since I can remember.
i don't see the coolness in lowriders, but hey, to each his own. I'm enjoying the new motortrend so far! keep it up!
@TheDamaskVlogs Thanks!
I only ever saw one low-rider that made me stop and think, "WOW!" It had tail-fins. Motortend is getting better and better!
IGNITIOOOOOOOOOOON !
@MystikEssence Looks like you aren't alone. Stay tuned.
Great job motor trend! . Although I could care less about lowriders but the show was entertaining and it's going in the right direction.
Lowriders will never die because chicanos will never go✊🏽

@BBoyCrownedOne Thumbs up if you would be interested in a episode of The Downshift on Hellaflush'd.
@y571 Thanks!
What is the lowrider at 1:51? Is it a some kind of cadillac coupe deville?
This morning on hwy 4 I passed a caravan of low riders. Reminded me of the homies from Oakland back in the day (1970-80's). In my 💓.
Notice the cracked windshield on the Cadillac. How do they keep the cars together?
@BBoyCrownedOne the hellaflush screws up the frame and a few other components, low riders can destroy multiple parts including the pillars for the roof crushing the car when it goes upside down. the hip hop side ruins cars by slowly rattling the car apart with the loud bass and causing more stress to the motor and transmission due to the large rotation mass caused by the big rims and very little rubber on them.
great video guys
This gave me chills, heartfelt

what is the song at the very start?
Eddie Guerrero (R.I.P.) made Lowrider world famous. Before that some had heard about it only in a rock song by the band War or more likely the Exodus' version of "Lowrider".
what's the name of the car that apears before u click the video?
@Lilmiddwest Your right man lowriders is not about gangs at all many car clubs are family oriented and do good things for the community. Way to go motortrend!
What was the car at 5:01?? Please help!
@magiksity If you mean the white on it's probably a '63 Buick Riviera, if you mean the blue one, then I don't know.
these types of things are better from Motor Trend, rather than the usual biased opinions that we've seen after so many years.
"as long as theres fuel to put in the tank, we're gonna hit those switches"
Awesome quote
I grew up with these cars around me and never really liked them, but I did like this film.
Interesting series, keep it up! I would love to watch more videos of different car cultures!
@thehulk3010 Actually we do race in the Baja you should see how many entries were made by mex drivers. Also sky diving is picking up alot here in Mex.
i see a low rider ridin on three wheels = instant thumbs up
I like Hot Rods most, but when I watch this, I think that these guys are really good artist! Just look at the attention to detail, the paint job. Just every little part is treated with respect!
But I have to say that the girl on 4:00 is very, very pretty!!
what song is that in the beginning? some1 reply please :)

Much respect to low-riders. The originators.

@kevdav63 not all states have those.
What car is in the thumbnail? That looks sick asf.
I'm confused. If its illegal, how do these cars pass their annual state safety inspection?
Nice job Motortrend
I had a Corvair that did 3 wheel hops 60 years before anybody else
and it wasn't even modified
Amazing.
@kevdav63 Pull the controllers out I assume?
ahh Motor Trend 2.0, and it speaks!!!
Neat cars! I like the new format also.
Los Angeles is mainly tuner cars and stance now . The modern day "lowrider" Japanese imports .
There gay tho
Not japanese
Mexican
Japanese shouldn't be lowriding cause there asian and asian dont know about low lows
+additma Have you seen how big the Japanese lowrider and custom scene is?
additma yeah course no arguments there but the Japanese do know their shit
Nope they don't know about low lows
That’s right lowriding will never die
the only issue besides gas is government regulation. hopefully it doesn't stop anything, customizing a car makes it yours
I can't believe they did this video and didn't atleast have a clip of the low rider song.
@motortrend Please, please please DO an episode on Hellaflush cars! I'd be more than super interested! :)
2020 TILL INFINITY 👊💯
Lots of time and money goes in those cars, I can appreciate all automobiles cultures, from imports to lowriders to hotrods, it's all a passion n culture

This is awesome.
0:27. Is that you Chumlee?
5:02 can someone name a car?
Lowriders, you either hate it or love it.
I particularly don't like them but they're still built cars. People put money, blood, sweat, and tears into them. Ive seen a handful of tasteful lowriders.
Function lives forever, but like a trend like stance, slammed, lowriders etc. They'll last a long time.
@motortrend you really know your stuff!!!0.0 lol! I can't believe that caddilac turned it down tho bcuz it's freaking SWEET!!!! :P
whats the point of making a car jump?
what about the toyotas, hondas, hyundais, nissans, and other japanese cars that's also been modified like lowriders? those were cool back in the 90's
Yes the Nissans mini trucks & Suzukis for example!
i would like it if they would show some bagged trucks or things that are static dropped and not only look at one section of the lowrider style then i would have enjoyed this more
very interesting perspective
i love ALL types of cars, japanese drifters, american muscle, germans like Audi and Mercedes... but i doubt there's ANY type of car as unique and characteristic as the lowriders! god its a shame cars aren't made this way any more
this video gave me goosebumps :D
I'm on my crayons right now. Trying to fix my 79 cutlass supreme
so cool, Great jump cars
im glad our culture is spreading to other parts of the world
Lowriders are "not my cup of tea", but I'm sure they're great fun for those who do like them and drive them: )
These cars are amazing. Real works of art. Not only part of Mexican American culture but American culture in general.
who is chum lee??
at 0:26 thats chum lee from pawn stars

sorry i ran out of characters to finish in one post good point but there is good art and bad art, if anything drifting is the best of them all.
I'd like to look into the future of lowriders and make a lowrider Prius.
im glad motor trend stopped pandering to the 50+ year old crowd and figured out that the medium age on youtube is around 19 years old.
@ImShayBone It is a new show from Motortrend on UA-cam. They've already uploaded one. You have to check it. IT IS AWESOME !!!
4:00 pause.
I can't say one style is better than another. I wanna put aspects of everything in the stuff I build. I drag race primarily but give me a set of thin whites with some 13 inch knockoffs n I'm a happy guy also..Idk,maybe I'm just a different egg, lol.

5:10 - guy's totally right.
Old School is the only school!
@dwad1skrubz Yeah I was like wtf that's Chumlee from Pawn Stars my mom watches that show sometimes. He lives in Vegas so he probably was at the annual Lowrider Supershow.
#lowriderlifestyle #lowriderlivin #Lowride247
