Seeing Ned’s character as hardcore Christian and conservative was rebelling against his parents. Which is the complete opposite of what happened in the 60’s. Like how they switched it, very clever.
It was a great episode that was in the tail end of the golden era of the Simpsons, but it was an episode that marked the change in direction. The Simpsons started to leave stories that primarily focused on the family and started going for stories that focused on the townspeople/side characters. It’s not a bad thing but it just that I really don’t care to learn the backstory to armand Tanzarian, or know that apu is having 8 kids.
