Over 40 years ago, I heard Gordon Bok on PBS radio in Boston. Impressed, I bought the album, Bay Of Fundy (?). Blown away. Now, decades later, I get this concert. Thanks.
Saw him at Ft. Mason, SF many many years ago when we were both young. Can you imagine a Gordon Bok concert with probably less than 50 seating and a full house? If you volunteered to set up the metal folding chairs you could see him for free . I did. And because I helped set up chairs I sat in the front row. Very intimate. I think he had a deeper voice back then.
thanks you sir for your decades of stirring our hearstrings.?!!!!! I've been singing-performing your songbook since 70s. thanks for the great songbook time and flying snow. hard to get thru it with out many tears. bay of fundy days. can't this remembrance of the old whaling days. thanks my dear friends Douglas. SD CA guitars, viola, voice, organ piano etc.
Gordon blew everyone away at the Fox Hollow Festival in Petersburg, NY in the late 60's and early 70's. That festival was a players festival far better than Mariposa. Gordon's album "A Tune for November" is a standard work of the life of fishermen and seafaring men in Maine. Every tune is brilliant. His albums with Ed Trickett and Ann Mayo Muir such as "Turning Toward The Morning" are brilliant . I have the only known film footage of the Fox Hollow festival posted on youtube. Search for Fox Hollow Festival to see it.
I will have to look for that, thank you. Fox Hollow was absolute magic, and where we first encountered Gordon, and probably Ed Trickett, Joe Hickerson and so many more. I think 1972 was the year I purchased Tune for November, Peter Kagan and the Wind and Seal Dijril's Hymn. The last is still my favorite album of all time. It's hard to believe that is now over 50 years ago.
I had the distinct pleasure to meet Gordon thru a bit of trickery from my friend Matt and thru Gordon's good will, for my birthday in September. I was already stunned but then Gordon and 5 others burst into the Happy Birthday song. My most memorable birthday ever! And he autographed a CD for me as well.
I’ve listened to Gordon for nearly 50 years. Doug Wilbur, of the family for whom the Connecticut parkway is named, I thank you for introducing Bok and so many others associated with Folk Legacy Records. The joy and enlightenment of Bok et al through so many years have added much to the quality of my life.
Learned about Gordon in 2019 while working as an undergrad intern for Smithsonian Folkways, who had just acquired the Folk-Legacy label. Such a pleasure to interact with his music - incredible musician who should be a household name. Delighted to see him performing in 2021.
My friend Carol told me how to find this concert. It's put me in the most marvelous state of mind. So wonderful to be able to share in this moment and hear Gordon's voice - deep, dear and comforting.
Fantastic performance, thank you for uploading. I discovered Gordon's music with "Schooners" and I'm a fan ever since. Sending best wishes from Polish coast of the Baltic Sea!
And, if you're from Newfoundland. you would call yourself a New FUND lander and you were from New Fund land, not New found land. How do I know? I spent about 3 years there back in the 60's in the Seabees in Argentia , NF. Almost married one but luckily she had more sense than I did at the time.
What a great find! I haven’t heard Gordon Bok for fifty years now and he still does a fine show.

I had a Fox Hollow Festival t-shirt. It’s long gone.

Great and honest singing. He's one of the immortals . . .

Sean, You're welcome, even if my last name does not have a "u," and Wilbur Cross was not an ancestor.

So glad you enjoyed it. We were fortunate to have such a treasure performing here.
Listened to Bok since sometime in the '70's. Nice to hear him again

My favorite Bok album.

American treasure 🙏
Wow. He actually played “These Dry Stone Walls” live? What a treat. Return To The Land is my favorite album.
Wish I could have been there for this.
