Splatoon 1’s boss battle traumatized me as a 12/13 year old. It took weeks for me to beat it & a lot of tears 🤣

I was 12 last year when I beat After Alterna. Crazy to think Splatoon released when I was just 4!
Story wise ? Octo by a long shot . The meaning and significance of the battle plus ending with “into the light “ was top tier .
Gameplay I still have to give it to Splatoon 1. That boss fight was a fucking gauntlet of everything you’ve ever learned in the campaign put to the test. Plus it was the first time hearing THAT HEAVENLY MELODY
Splatoon 1 and Octo get a tie for me .
3 was just fucking insane on so many levels . I think its spectacle is what knocks it down for me a bit , even though I loved every second of it.
The other two had smaller feel to them , yeah , Octo was also a world threatening event too but it didn’t feel like that . Even with the giant laser. 🎉
I also think, to give splat2 some credit, i think it’s music is about on par with octo expansion. Spicy calimari inkantation is probably the best version the heavenly melody imo.
I'm gonna be the nerd with glasses and quickly mention,
in octo expansion it WOULD have been a world ending threat-
but became just an inkopilis ending one.
Octo expansion ending is definitely the best. But what about the gameplay of the final boss, the side order bosses tier list. That’s a completely a different story.
Conclusion: Splatoon endings are all really good.
I can agree with the rankings that I know. A personal note. For the end of Side Order, I love how it seems that 8 is somewhat self aware. At the end of the elevator, he looks back, not his companions, but to the player camera position, making it seem like he knew he was having help from outside to guide his actions, and to thank those that did so.
No way Splatoon 2 is above side order😭

Octo expansion without question I will never forget how insane the climax with that giant statue of that was and also the LORE implications were insane
3 had the best ending. 1&SO had the best boss fights. They just felt really epic

I am not gonna rank splatoon 1 cause I never played it. 1. Octo Expansion, the ending was incredible the music, the dialogue just about everything, and INTO THE LIGHT! 2. Return of the Mammalians I loved how deep cut started singing calamari inkantation, also I loved how DJ Octavio showed up, and huge fry and firing a laser WAS AWESOME! 3. Side Order, barely below the main campaign of splatoon 3, I loved the music, the ending was funny and incredible, plus getting those chips and the killer wail was so fun, AND THE ELEVATOR CREDITS WERE AWESOME! 4. Splatoon 2, it was good, it just cant beat the top three, it was fun, the music was awesome, and the sniper part and Sheldon YELLING THE SQUID SISTERS ARE BACK was so cool, and RAINMAKER????? That was so fun!
My rankings (note: I haven’t played side order yet so I’m not gonna be ranking it.)
4. Splatoon 3 actually. I really didn’t feel like the story was as good as the rest and a bit random.
3. Splatoon 1, though I’ve never actually played it, it seems really good with calamari inkantation for the first time and a lot of other good aspects.
2. Splatoon 2, I personally really liked the story and the gameplay
1. OCTOEXPANSION IS THE BEST NO EXPLANATION REQUIRED
The only one I haven't played myself is the Splatoon 1 final boss, but of the four I have...
Story wise, I'm going to have to say Splatoon 3's Hero Mode just barely beats out Octo Expansion - to me, the trip through the Alterna Space Center - which I count as part of the final boss if you're counting the entirety of the Escape from Octo Expansion - is the better of the two, and the stakes are higher than ever. Plus, we finally got to kick that bear's butt, with the help of a DJ. Octo Expansion gets the silver, and both Splatoon 2's Hero Mode and Side Order shares the bronze.
Music wise? It's tough, but I'm going to give it to Octo Expansion, as Fly Octo Fly is a tough song to beat. The song from Side Order is close... But just barely not enough to get the gold, so it'll take silver, with the Inkantation 3Mix getting the bronze.
Gameplay wise? True, Side Order's final boss doesn't change up how they do things, but the challenge of using Eight's Palette where you have to either sacrifice color Chip Slots or reduce your hacks to the bare minimum makes for an interesting run. And while they don't change up much, they do make it as hard as they can with their summons for the Last Order fight. Not to mention I do enjoy the extra phase for the first run - so much so that I think I'm going to try and run said extra phase with all 11 Palettes (excluding Eight's - that one can't be used for it) because each palette will make the fight feel different. Heck, it's the fact that the palettes helps to tune how you take on Overlorder which barely causes it to take the top spot for me, with 3's Hero Mode taking silver and Octo Expansion taking bronze.
Finally, fun factor. Sadly for Callie, even if it got gold here, it won't be enough for 2's Hero Mode to come out on top... And it doesn't, because I'll be honest with you. Painting the NILS Statue and fighting Smollusk I enjoy more, with the latter often allowing me to vent the stress of the climb. And to be honest, I can't choose between either of them, so I'll give both of them the Gold... And the fight against Mr. Grizz claims the bronze, pushing poor Callie out of the podium one last time.
So, the results are...
Splatoon 2 Hero Mode: Bronze, Out, Out, Out (Final Rank: 4th)
Octo Expansion: Silver, Gold, Bronze, Gold (Tied 1st)
Splatoon 3 Hero Mode: Gold, Bronze, Silver, Bronze (Final Rank: 3rd)
Side Order: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Gold (Tied 1st)
...We have a tie for top position, between Side Order and Octo Expansion. However, with Octo Expansion being in front with two of the three categories that they didn't tie in, that means Octo Expansion is in 1st, Side Order in 2nd, Return of the Mammalians in 3rd and Octo Canyon takes 4th.

Hot take I don’t think the side order wait was not worth it hear me out it’s really good but the wait time was really long for the dlc which I beat in 1 day
I get that everyone preferred Otto expansion but agent 8 was definitely glad to get a break in side order 😅

I was extremely hype about Side Order's Ending because for the longest time in my head I was playing with a fan fiction idea, it had a similar climax (The main character being motivated by music), and the theme of the power of music was much more ingrained in the story (It followed the story of a reincarnation of a bard octoling who wrote the folklore song version that modern Calimari inkantation was based on) and while all the details weren't the same they were kind of what I was envisioning and it was so epic lol
