  • Mechanical Noises, C-130 Hercules flyover, a medical emergency and Pyramids of Algonquin. Mark and Iain get some well deserved rest and get to sleep in on Radiant Lake. A misty morning makes for some amazing views while the sunrises showing off the beautiful Canadian wilderness. The guys have a big breakfast of pancakes and lots of bacon. They head over to the ruins of the Gillies Bros. Depot Farm on the other side of the lake. On the way they get a surprise low flyover of a Lockheed C-130 Hercules government plane. The guys find a plaque and read out its inscription. Trying to find a lost cemetery, a logging truck races past them on a logging road just behind the depot farm. Something happens to Mark making the crew jump into action to help him out. After a disconnect moment, they head out and discover what may possibly be one of the rumoured pyramids of Algonquin Provincial Park. According to legends, there are pyramids all over Algonquin including one beneath Radiant Lake. Back at camp they have Mark's home made dehydrated shepherds pie for supper. Mark shows the environmentally friendly way to do dishes in the backwoods. Sit back, relax and enjoy!

An interesting day for the guys on this one. Sit back, relax and disconnect from the current world situation. Check out Mark's website www.markinthepark.com for trip logs and his own guiding service. Special thanks to Algonquin Outfitters, Ontario Parks and Unlostify Maps for their support!

What a smart idea to place the stove under the grill! Thanks for the pro tip!

No problem! Hopefully it will save some food one day from falling off the stove

2nd time I've watched this series. It's so well done. Great characters, info. Matt, what's your preferred pack for camera gear? Did you use the blue food barrels?
It's good to see someone so committed to their equipment. I'm the same with my backcountry gear.

Nice! Thank you for watching it! I like a standard canoe pack for camera gear. It’s flexible, not heavy, fits well and is somewhat waterproof. We only brought one food barrel and that was for the food. Additional food went into a canoe pack. Half way through the trip when everything fit into the barrel, that additional food pack got wrapped and we then only had four packs. No empty barrels being carried around.

Would you be allowed to put a paper over the plaque and rub a crayon or pencil over the top to read the letters? Maybe not allowed. Loving your program

Great idea! Wish we would have thought of something like that. Thanks for watching! 😊

Nice, that was a sweet one. Love the plane. I was hoping you'd speculate as to why a Hercules was flying over, that seemed odd. Any idea why they'd be in the park? Also Mark's eye looks painful, hoping it is less red on the next day.

CFB Petawawa is not too far from that area of the park. They were most likely practicing low flying in valleys. Apparently these kind of flyovers are very common in Algonquin!

Beautiful sunny day in the park. The C-130 Hercules fly over was assume. The Shepard's Pie looks delicious. You guys never share the food with the camera crew, they must be staving, 8 days without any food. Its all fun and games until someone looses an eye, lol..

Indeed it was! The crew got to eat but filming always came first!
