Lol we know that, almost every known great vocalist started as a church singer from Aretha Franklin, Whitney to Jennifer Hudson and Beyoncé.
I think he is referring to people who actually dedicate their music to God and are not recognised because of that exact reason. 😊 although Whitney is the best of all time no doubt.

I remember a while ago her going on some Broadway auditions and her talking about how traumatic that was for her at the time. Somehow, I feel like they'll be circling back around to her very soon.

She has to step out of the gospel sound and really focus on how different the music presentation is, when it comes to Broadway musicals.
J Hud is the opposite. She wins awards for musicals and musicals adapted to movie format....for her R&B, not so much.
Broadway is way more than a great voice.
She’s probably have to lose more weight because of the amount movements and dancing she’d have to do. The sing she has pact down because she la been trained very well by her mother. And she’s sings nearly ALL the time. I’m sure she accustom to vocal rest and preparedness!
@@frankiethomas7478 Not necessarily. I’m not sure if you’ve ever seen a call sheet before or been on a casting call. Each character on a call sheet has a very detailed description - image requirements, personality traits, key features of their storyline, and vocal requirements. With someone like Kierra, either they would approach her with a character in mind or she would look at the various character descriptions in the call sheet and audition for a role that she feels capable of playing. There’s no need to try and limit her based on your personal limitations.

She does NOT have to lose weight. The one who broke out the mold of that, was Jennifer Holiday. You also have sheryl lee ralph, who is considered plus size. There's Dreamgirls Jennifer Holiday. Then you have plus size for Hairspray. The Wiz (new) broke the mold....and then there is Bonnie Milligan. The Color Purple had plus size women too.

this was beautiful. the restraint, the control, the poise, the EAR, the choices, the dynamics!! you could tell she was really placed out of her comfort zone here and she absolutely murdered it, i want her to play with some gospel-esque musical theatre rep more often now
i noticed how she kept that 1-7-5-1 going, that's already present in various times in the musical arrangement as well as the "i don't need", but the way she slipped it in there on "thankful for every" and even for the quick key change on "both the easy and" was DISGUSTING

@@humbled92_Mister in an interview - might have been with TERRELL -- pretty sure it was over zoom. i also recall her saying it when she did THE CLARK SISTERS movie. i think it's because she compares herself to her mom and higher sopranos.

I definitely think when Kierra was younger, she was more comfortable singing "alto" but as she has gotten older and her voice has matured, she has been more courageous to tap into her upper chest register, which is strong!!!

Seeing & hearing this for the first time on 1/14/2024. Took my grandma to see the new movie The Color Purple 1 week after it hit theaters. I still love Fantasia’s version, it just did something to my soul DarlingZ🥰🙌🏽🙏🏽👏🏽 I’m going to search for the original version by LaChanze now, I don’t recall hearing that one, however I could have & just didn’t know who it was. I saw a snippet of Cynthia Erivio singing it, but not the full thing. If she sings it anything like how she sang “Stand Up”, babyyyy let me grab my tissues. 🎶 Oh I got eeeeyes in the back of my head, just in case I have to run 🎶
This song is for every Celie. Imagine being unloved and mistreated by everyone but your sister and your children. And that love was stripped from her. The woman was alive with nothing to live for. She had to find how to love herself, which is hard to do when you don't know what it feels like. Realizing that you don't need nobody to love you, but yourself and the people who you know love you just because.
I literally get emotional every time I hear this song. I have been a Celie in some cases in my life and I had to realize that if nobody else love me, I know God and my son do. That gives me courage and willingness to love myself
