That car is worth all 5 million. I'd have done the same thing given the opportunity. It belongs in a museum. People have spent more money on paintings, and as far as I know there aren't any paintings that have 800 horsepower.
I remember reading about this car in Road and Track. I busted a gut listening to Cosby talking about taking delivery of it! Still have the vinyl album he made. This car is absolutely THE ULTIMATE COBRA!!!
Ron Pratte, Military Service, American Success Story, Philanthropist, but most important, Carall Shelby's #1 Fan. The country needs more Ron Prattes right now.
Always enjoy watching old movies with lasting power. This is a classic that any true american car enthusiast shouldn't miss. For my money, this is one of the most incredible cars ever built... period!
The high bidder on this vehicle was Ron Pratte. Mr. Pratte is the owner and CEO of Pratte Development Company which is one of the largest concrete company's in the county. He is very well known for his elaborate rare private car collection in Phoenix, AZ.
Great Video! Gave me goose bumps, wow, what a car, I sure hope the buyer got the gavel and that The Man autographed the car. Now I'd be afraid to drive it. Like a fantastic diamond you can't wear.
Just look at that marvel, but not only that, it's the must expensivec car ever sold in Barrett-Jackson... man it makes me cry... CARROLL SHELBY IS THE BEST!!!! :D
ok, but what is required to registrate them on the roads If you wanted, like some requirement u must fill or so, insurances e.t.c? This is one nice car.
@@danielsimmons7397 yes, Carol Shelby was the only owner of that Supersnake. The other one was sold to Bill Cosby. He sold it to a guy who died in a wreck in that one... leaving Carol the owner of the only one.
That's right, the second car was crashed off the side of a cliff I believe. The other one was the car he built for Bill Cosby, but Cosby said it was to much car & gave it back to Shelby.
The last little toy car my grandmother gave me before she died was a Hotwheels 1966 Shelby Cobra. I still have it to this day. I always figured that if I made it big, I'd try to buy a real one. ...If I'm gonna make that happen it seems I need to start making money reeeaaaal fast.
I have a question about this car: is it legal to registrate(if it's not registrated to be driven on roads)and drive it, even if you wouldn't because of what it's worth, on the roads like any other car? Or is it simply to powerfull, ''enviromental-harming'' or ''unsafe'' to possibly be legal on the roads? Think of it: it got over 800 horsepower(!), in a car that weights under 1 ton, how do people registrate cars(or monsters) like this and drive them on the roads at all?
@arlichar11 you can buy a Shelby CSX4000 still, which is a 1965 427 S/C. but alot of replicas dont have strong chassis or are all fiberglass and weak. if you buy a replica i suggest a Factory Five Racing or a Superformance. both have stronger than original chassis but only the Superformance is Shelby American licensed but the Factory Five Racing is half the cost and very easy to build and very reliable
please explain what life changing experience has occurred because of this? what good does going fast? also..waste when u are only gonna show or store this.,..not race...wich is only rational reason to own..a fast car.....
Hmmm, but let's say you make/build an exact copy of a car like this, call it replica, clone, whatever, and build it exactly as the original one, can u still registrate it fully legal as the original if it's build good, no cheap welding in the body, no bad paint, good running engine e.t.c, is that possible, if you want? I'am curious as i one day wants to build some sort of Cobra like this, but unsure if the car would be legal as its not made from the original cars era, and because of the laws.
My question is, how much will insurance quote him on a $5 million dollar car? Actually, taxes add to about half a million dollars more. Insane how there are people out there that can just throw money around like that. In other news, according to the most current Forbes list, there are 945 Billionaires in the world, 150 more than last year. Where did I go wrong in life!?
The other car was built for Bill. Cosby but it was too powerful for him so it got sold and wrecked. But you gotta look up the video when the the car got dropped off to Cosby because its REALLY funny.
This is a car, the prestige of american automotive perfection. This is a vehicle that stands next to any Ferrari or Italian sports car and says "I can do that too".
as long as u got the onwership papers for the car - take them to where u get your licence plates and get plates for it - then drive it - they may ask u to get the car inspected but thats not a big deal - as long as the car can go - stop - lights work ect. u would be good to go
course u can register a "clone" of this or any car - as long as u get the car inspected and it has lights tail lights - turn signals and anything else your local goverment requires for the car -= mufflers ect. and once the car passes the inspection - insure it and enjoy the car - talk to your local insuring office for motor vehicle for the details for yout area as all areas for this are different
worth every penny..shelby gave the other on to bill cosby in 66 but he couldnt handle it so he gave it back and another guy bought it and drove it off a cliff into the ocean.
@bluenotejazz Yeah ,just something to putt around in the snow and ice so your import doesn't get dinged up, right? No heat? No problem! Just bundle up warm.
There is such a thing as buying a rare car as an investment--they only increase in value over time--especially a one-of-a-kind car like this. Eventually it'll be sold again and the seller will get a lot more than $5,000,000 for it. Racing it would be like buying a pristine 1871 Silver Dollar and using it to buy a 2-liter Pepsi at the store.
Ron Pratte also owns his housing company that make 10 million dollars a month but now that the housing market in the USA is going in the sewer hes not gonna be able to get those really expensive cars liek instanly since hes gonna have to find a new way to make money with his other companies even tho he makes 10 million doillars gross a month he still ahas to pay his 10000+ employees. so really hes got alot from it and his collection must be wonderfull with his cars hes bought from B-J auction
this car is Truly amazing,,,, it dont get any better than this,, if you own this, you dont say,,, i own a 427 TRUE cobra... you should legally change your name to cobra
You're deluding the difficulty of top fuel drag racing because it's not easy to stay straight at 330 mph. If people can drive other supercars with stickshifts than the SuperSnake should also have it.
i know that. but he could do something like jay leno and bring a camera crew in his garage just to show the world u know? if i had a garage like them i would.
@kbucher1977 He's only regarded as a "celebrity" at the Barrett-Jackson. I don't even know what he does that makes him so damn rich. I think this was also the year he bought Tony Stewart's championship racecar for $300,000 and wrote Darrell Gwynn another check for $300,000 after he bought the car.
@pershing22 i get ur point ... every car guy, JDM , EDM USDM or Rice has to admit its shape is like a sexy women and its one of the best cars ever .... but 5 mil is to much .....
Only time i would steal a rare car like this, is if the owner would have plans to destroy it, if any owner of a car like this wanted to destroy the car, i would definitly steal it, but that's the only reason. But who would want to destroy such a beautifull beast like this one?
I remember watching this live. Wow I can’t believe how the time flew
That car is worth all 5 million. I'd have done the same thing given the opportunity. It belongs in a museum. People have spent more money on paintings, and as far as I know there aren't any paintings that have 800 horsepower.
Nice to see it sold again this year at Barrett for $5,000,00 also, and all proceeds were donated to charity to help the wounded soldiers.
All hail Carrol Shelby, that Cobra goes beyond special, and very probably defines 'awesome'.
I remember watching this on TV, craziest Barrett Jackson year ever
I remember reading about this car in Road and Track. I busted a gut listening to Cosby talking about taking delivery of it! Still have the vinyl album he made. This car is absolutely THE ULTIMATE COBRA!!!
Ron Pratte, Military Service, American Success Story, Philanthropist, but most important, Carall Shelby's #1 Fan. The country needs more Ron Prattes right now.
"Well, I got stopped doing 190mph in it in Nevada." Pretty much says it all.
TWO LEGENDS CARROLL SHELBY & RON PRATT WE ALL MISS YOU BOTH .

Rip Carol Shelby. Watched him for years and always see him at Barrett Jackson. Tough guy Heart Transplant and Kidney Transplant
>>>>9:10...a glimpse of the Man who revers Carroll Shelby as much as anyone.
This Auctioneer would make an Awesome Rapper!
Still holds the BJ all-time record at $5.5 million.
Just look at that marvel, but not only that, it's the must expensivec car ever sold in Barrett-Jackson... man it makes me cry...
CARROLL SHELBY IS THE BEST!!!! :D
I saw this car in person at the Chandler , Az. car show right after it was sold at this auction
ok, but what is required to registrate them on the roads If you wanted, like some requirement u must fill or so, insurances e.t.c?
This is one nice car.
This car was sold by the IRS at a seizure auction for only $275,000 back in 1995.
Carol just sold the car. How was the car sold in 95 if Mr. Shelby sold at Barrett Jackson? Did he buy it back?
Robin Luck to my knowledge only Mr. Shelby ever owned this one until this auction. Captainjag12 must be thinking of another car.
@@danielsimmons7397 yes, Carol Shelby was the only owner of that Supersnake. The other one was sold to Bill Cosby. He sold it to a guy who died in a wreck in that one... leaving Carol the owner of the only one.

That was then, this is now!!! Appreciate the appreciation 🙏

i would REALLY like to see Ron Pratt's garage.
Varsha...such a perfect call...."Five!"
must be nice to have over $5 million in your bank account
its called hard work being smart having the right priorities having great foresight and paying attention to detail
G not even fucking moron
I know people who have been working hard for 30 years and they still don’t have $5 million. Explain this bs
G doesn't work like that.
or its called having a trust fund / family money left to you
Beautiful 427 Super Snake!
he did work with GM actually, for like 4 or 5 years, then went back to Ford
He designed the viper and modified other dodge cars too.
speaking that fast is a talent
Belongs in a Museum
...@ 4:10, Ron goes up on his own bid of 1,8......to 2 mil. Its called "Bring It On"
I wonder what size the rear gears are and if it has a c6?
i saw that car get auctioned it was amazing the crowd was roaring i also met the tetules and chip foose
....@ 7:50, The Man who started Ron Pratte collecting cars, smiles at Ron..................and its on.

still holds the record!
There's nothing like hearing Spanky auction off a 5 million dollar car.

Now that is a one of a kind! No wonder it grabbed the high price it did. Imagine what it will be worth today. I would guess 10 million.
what car is that? pretty sure the record for most expensive car sold at barret jackson is this
My question is, how much will insurance quote him on a $5 million dollar car? Actually, taxes add to about half a million dollars more. Where did I go wrong in life!?
3.3 sec to 60 and 11.86 in 1/4 mile. And that's with a slush box Lincoln auto trans and 331 gears!!! Damn!!
He did work with GM, on the Shelby Series 1. Oldsmobile V8 & Corvette transaxle. Many other GM parts on that car also.
...@4:50, he says 3 with his right hand, and a smile................
Bang for the buck this cobra's a beast
you know the guy at 5:30 bidding damn sure WASN'T on the phone with his wife!
it looked like they were free styling...lol awesome car.
The other car was built for Bill. Cosby but it was too powerful for him so it got sold and wrecked. But you gotta look up the video when the the car got dropped off to Cosby because its REALLY funny.
Actually shelby did work with alot of companies, even dodge. He wasn't a strictly ford man, but did work with them alot.
This is a car, the prestige of american automotive perfection. This is a vehicle that stands next to any Ferrari or Italian sports car and says "I can do that too".

if any one noticed the guy on stage at 4:30 is the guy that bought the million doller oldsmobile corevette concept
if you watch the bidding price in the left it goes 320,000 at 5:52 till 6:00 MAJOR ERROR DONE BY SPEED

@bluenotejazz Yeah ,just something to putt around in the snow and ice so your import doesn't get dinged up, right? No heat? No problem! Just bundle up warm.
do you think its worth the $5 000 000 ?
i was standing right next to carroll shelby in that vid in the white shirt
Well a new one sure.. but a 1of1 67 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 Spider sold for 27.5 million. bidding started at 10
Who is Bill Crosby?
try captioning the person doing the auction ..
Isn't it suppose to be 5.5 million?
I remember a vett sold before this for around a million for charity
I want to know what the bidders do for a living.
I can't understand what the auctioneer is saying.

Carroll Shelbys 66 Cobra 427 Super Snake... Check out what it goes for... The guy that does win it, has one HELL of a COLLECTION!!! ( RON PRATE!! )
♥ Love guys with fast toys :) ♥
Took it out for a spin, got rear ended by a Prius.
intelligence statement . That statement is the reason he is wealthy and u are not
The car is fine. You should see the prius

For 5 more million lol
i know that. but he could do something like jay leno and bring a camera crew in his garage just to show the world u know? if i had a garage like them i would.
....@ 3:20, folks, can we get 1 million, and a nod in the front row gets attention.
You gotta admit its an awesome lookin car
I was asking my self the same question what does this guy does for living.
@mattingly50187 oh so quality of manufacturering huh?
Dream car
Nice The car is probably worth more that movie came out ford verse Ferrari Peice of history

The and only super snake
The auctioneer is amazingly fast, but it sounds like some wierd scary country rap song. Its so strange and scary!
... @ 5:40, while Grandpa is thinking about 100 grand, Ron holds up his program......4 MILLION DOLLARS!
I don't think that' grandpa but Dad. These guys all have women half their age or younger hanging off them.
Oh my god, I wish I could go to an auction with over a 5 million dollar budget to spend on a car.
Never heard of an Auctioneer before?
@kbucher1977
He's only regarded as a "celebrity" at the Barrett-Jackson. I don't even know what he does that makes him so damn rich. I think this was also the year he bought Tony Stewart's championship racecar for $300,000 and wrote Darrell Gwynn another check for $300,000 after he bought the car.
@pershing22 thats why i dont get why caroll is selling it .... i mean if would have that car i would live with it and park it beside my bed
5 mill was the record for Berrett Jackson at that time
the legend carrol shelby
this will be a $30M car one day
@pershing22 i get ur point ... every car guy, JDM , EDM USDM or Rice has to admit its shape is like a sexy women and its one of the best cars ever .... but 5 mil is to much .....
if you watch the entire auction you would see he bought the car before that one. Made a price then up'd his own price. He got deep pockets.
It was sold again for 8.4 Million.
I'm just confused as to why Carol sold it. There shouldn't be a price tag on that car.
something is always worth what someone is willing to pay.
Only time i would steal a rare car like this, is if the owner would have plans to destroy it, if any owner of a car like this wanted to destroy the car, i would definitly steal it, but that's the only reason.
But who would want to destroy such a beautifull beast like this one?
