- Rusalka, Op. 114, is an opera ('lyric fairy tale') by Antonín Dvořák. The Czech libretto was written by the poet Jaroslav Kvapil (1868-1950) based on the fairy tales of Karel Jaromír Erben and Božena Němcová.

Antonin Dvorak was Czech composer, who was so popular in his time like Beatles or Michael Jackons many years ago, he was first world music star. All his music is really amazing.
I donno much about him but i do agree with your last sentence.
Jo ke to Čech a je to naše legenda 😌
I distinctly remember this song, my grandmother used to play Dvorak during family gatherings. I remember being; no older then 4 years old; stunned by Dvorak. She would play music like this every Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter... every time we got together. Those were great times... I miss her so much. She was such a graceful and loving person.
So glad you have those memories of both her and great music. You are so blessed.
The intro sounds a lot like Tchaikovsky. I think you're remembering that. Kids love Tchaikovsky.
Moon, high and deep in the sky
Your light sees far,
You travel around the wide world,
and see into people's homes.
Moon, stand still a while
and tell me where is my dear.
Tell him, silvery moon,
that I am embracing him.
For at least momentarily
let him recall of dreaming of me.
Illuminate him far away,
and tell him, tell him who is waiting for him!
If his human soul is in fact dreaming of me,
may the memory awaken him!
Moonlight, don't disappear, disappear!

Měsíčku na nebi hlubokém,
světlo tvé daleko vidí.
Po světě bloudíš širokém,
díváš se v příbytky lidí.
Po světě bloudíš širokém,
díváš se v příbytky lidí.
Měsíčku, postůj chvíli,
řekni mi,
kde je můj milý.
Měsíčku, postůj chvíli,
řekni mi, řekni
kde je můj milý.
Řekni mu, stříbrný měsíčku,
mé že jej objímá rámě,
aby si alespoň chviličku
vzpomenul ve snění na mne,
aby si alespoň chviličku
vzpomenul ve snění na mne.
Zasviť mu do daleka,
zasviť mu,
řekni mu, řekni
kdo tu na něj čeká.
Zasviť mu do daleka,
zasviť mu,
řekni mu, řekni
kdo tu na něj čeká.
O mně-li, duše lidská sní,
ať se tou vzpomínkou vzbudí.
Měsíčku nezhasni! Nezhasni!
Měsíčku nezhasni!

cannot stop listening to this, so beautiful. A girl in the year above me sang this last year at our school concert, have been in love with it ever since... and yes she sang amazingly
Idiot
Every time when I walking around his house where he wrote his Rusalka, I hear this beautiful piece of music in my head and I really understand why he wrote it. The nature in the Brdy forest and around is really magical.
I dont know the language, but I can still feel it. It's a beautiful thing...that is universal and human in this world
I'm in 2020 listening to one of the best sounds of my life.
This song is unbelievably beautiful. I could listen to it for hours.
I first heard this beautiful music in the movie "Driving Miss Daisy" . It was played in this scene in the movie where Miss Daisy is quietly doing some needlework, the camera pulls back to show her in a small sitting area and this beautiful music fills the house. I waited until the credits rolled to find out what this beautiful music was and have enjoyed replaying it on this site.
Than happened to me also!!!! So beautiful song!!!!!!
what can I say that hasn't already been said,a beautiful piece of music, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.
Who else can sing like an angel? No other soprano has such a beautiful voice and expressiveness. Lucia Popp is also humble and so natural with herself unlike overrated and arrogant prima donnas of today.
jamesings Sge is Gabriela Beňáčková. One of the best version
The sound comes from Eva Urban version.
God, this is beautiful.
Ano velmi velmi krasny hudba !!! diky Antonin . ja miloval takhle . Velky Czech !!!
Mluvite dobre cesky
Zas bych to nepřeháněl :-D
it's soooooo beautiful. i actually started to tear up. it's awe inspiring.
Thanks, Dvorak, and thanks, Driving Miss Daisy. Otherwise I would have never heard the most beautiful sound ever.
I first heard this years ago when I watched Bicentennial Man. For ages I thought it was completely different piece. Whenever I heard that one I always got confused as to why the melody didn't move in the same way. So after watching Bicentennial Man for the 200th time, I finally decided to look it up.
This piece is so beautiful. I've loved it for so long- finally I know what it is.
It's miles better than the one I thought it was.. which I just looked up- Un bel di, vedremo from Puccini's Madame Butterfly.
The most beautiful Aria I have ever heard
The most beautiful music I've ever heard
I'm always driving in the middle of the night listening to "Music Through the Night" but I discovered this last weekend on the Internet. I'm moonstruck!
one of the most beautiful arias ever
This shall be the music of heaven. Why are all pieces that are written in F # major (or G flat) always so beautiful?? :')
The equal tempered scale is a disaster which is why I play all the music that satisfiy soul in flat keys. The dissonance in the "straight keys" are unbearable when you listen ith a natural diatonic ear.
Yesterday November 16 was the day she passed away in 1993, only 54 years old. A big loss for opera and singing. Such a great soprana, so pure and natural. Lucia Popp was great in Mozart, Wagner (Lohengrin and Meistersinger), Strauss and Janacek, among others.
This is sang by Eva Urban
@@juliaflowers4409This is Licia Popp for sure.
I love this piece. What a great job by the composer and performers.
so subtle, so gentle, so wisp...
C'est la plus belle interprétation de ce chant que j'ai trouvé sur internet!
J'adore -3
So wonderful and mooving! One of the best music ever!
Oh the beauty of this song... I love it!
Blows me away every time... It came on the radio today while I was working -- I had to just stop and listen before going back to what I was doing
Antonín Dvořák was a Czech :) not Russian :DDD
:DDD
I know
Czech identity existed pre 1918? I thought the country itself was formed post ww1
Country does not exist at Art...

i saw the pond that inspired him to write this - it took so little to bring this greatness about!
True Slavic soul, beautiful...Thanks for this...
The first little minute of this beautiful music is telling the story of "Rusalka"... but at 00:53 the magic and overwhelming beauty of Dvorak music, begins as the violins plays, soft and very quiet, a theme with only two notes...leading up the soprano singing... "Song to the Moon" and if beauty was ever put into music...it is here !!
You said it so beautifully thanks
@@duanegeorges9339 The very best wishes and good music to you from Denmark and Erik S.

In Light of such musical beauty, refinement and poignancy, could we all just once, refrain from the gutter language?
:-D
The melody done by the vocalist reminds me a lot to "Somewhere Over The Rainbow", maybe a source of inspiration.
This is the moment when i am proud of Bohemia
Well, this and our beer. And Havel. :)
Well, after 20 years, I've finally found what kind of music that robot NDR 114 “Andrew” enjoyed sitting in the basement at night listening to a record on a remanufactured Verola turntable 😊
Speechless
I'd like to be able to sing this to the moon :)

I am linking this sublime song from 'Rusalka' with McGonagall's poem 'The Moon' in my presentation 'Music And Verse 3' for the 'South Cheshire Recorded Society' on the 16th June, 2015.

Her wonderful singing voice is out of this world
The beauty of her voice is unrivaled, indescribable and outclassing
Other than her incomparable soprano and song ,
there were no sopranos and songs
that conveyed the waves of excitement and impression to the depths of my soul . 🇯🇵
From honorable Tokyo in mysterious Japan .

@@juliaflowers4409 This is Lucia Popp. I can recognize the most beautiful voice I have ever heard.
thanks for sharing this beautiful song. it's beautifully sung. do you also think that the end is a bit too abrupt?
@hannahp730 You obviously have great musical taste.. glad you enjoy it.
This far surpasses anything in any field that I might be capable of doing myself! It is the most difficult thing to write good music! So therefore this is the mature utterance of Dvorak's sheer genius!!!
Cheers - Mike
@goodbyelonglive44 I don't know which instrument per say, but its created by the string section for sure. If they have the recording device in the appropriate place and they play that section a certain way (I forgot the term, but I know it involves a strong depression of the strings and quick bow movement) you'll get a certain sound. Combine one instrument with...what...15? Thus, you get that sound. Well, at least that's what I think: I'm not really an expert on these things.
nice
