Hill profile creates a good scene now. Great how video goes from mayhem & destruction to nearly finished. Looking forward to the static grass and final scenic details
Great to see the ongoing improvements to your layout, it's such an inspiration to see someone who is constantly looking to change things around. Thanks again Julian 👍🏼
Dear Julian, great to see how you tweaked the old buttress and the rather bumpy part of the cutting face right next to it. Definitely is starting to look very convincing. When you’re done with this project it may be fun to call this area the Teesside tunnel mishap. Cheerio
The first layout we had as kids was made by our Uncle Terry and Dad. There was a tunnel at either end of the layout going up to a second level. The Tunnels were made using Chicken Wire and Paper mashia. Our job was to sit and cut up strips of newspaper and smaller bits used on top of the strips laid over the Chicken wire mixed with the plaster we used. No static grass at that time, but there was some scatter material. It looked good to us and we finally were able to play trains. Some of which I still have with me. Using the high-density foam and the scatter has reformed that part of your layout. Martin. (Thailand)
Hi Julian, yet another great video, very informative. The scene is now looking like it would have if that tunnel was closed off. Great skills, thanks for sharing again 👌🏻
Looking good and the abutment makes more sense, one thing to consider is foliage such as buddleia or small trees growing from the top of the abutment which is something you often see. Like the approach of removing a piece at a time as opposed to whole scale excavations and destruction.
Julian, When you replace the pipe over the road how are you going to support it and existing line higher up the hill could probably do with a support in the middle of the line. Good videos, keep them up.
I really appreciate your videos and I enjoy what you're doing but honestly this section just feels wrong to me. Where did all this material come from and how did it get there? Why did they bother to blend the curves in with the hillside when filling it? How did the parapets on the bridge abutment stay upright with thousands of tons of dirt and rubble being dropped on them? How did the road below not get covered? etc. etc. I guess you are committed now, so there's no way back - but a tunnel mouth plated/gated/fenced over with an access door would be far more likely IMO.
It was a rail line... Material brought in by wagon, the bridge removed once the cutting was filled. JCB for soil spreading can drive away down to the bridge and be removed by rail. Tunnel filling and slope stabilisation is done to resist long term failure, ie degradation of brick and heave of clayey soils. It's also not a prototypical railway, but there's enough 'history' to explain it.
As long as Julian is happy with it is all that matters. Modelling in 00 is a compromise, the track, the size of the model parts 75mm = 0.5mm in 00 approx.
Try the reservoir over flowed in a 1 :100 year flash flood event that washed spoil down the hill side filling in the tunnel mouth. Unfortunately the little people on the layout employed O’Reilly builders, who were super cheap, who built the retaining wall and not the bridge wall going against Cybil’s (the lady mayoresses), strict instruction to use Stubbs the local builders. Poor old Basil, the town foreman and manager is in the deep doo doos wth Cybil, his……wife. Julian had to intervene to correct and maintain peace and harmony in this scene and episode! It’s all looking good Julian, well done! Moral - anything goes you can read into it what you like or do not! Like Fawlty Towers and the stories told there most folk want to have some fun and enjoyment. Also to learn something or get a different perspective to their own via others layouts, ideas and techniques through these videos. For scenes and models be they an “accurate” portrayal of something existing or something purely imaginary - the sky is the limit in this hobby. There is room for everybody. Enjoy it for what it is.

great vid on the channel looks good nice work thanks for the share on channel thanks lee
are you going to extend that (i am guessing its a water pipe) across the road. might add some more interest. great video as always.

What you're not ambidextrous!, still you managed to make a good job of it 👍

Imagination and artistic license of the modeller. Looks good to me😊
