2021 Elantra gets Coilovers! (HSD Coilovers on SEL)

- Adding HSD Coilovers to my 2021 Elantra SEL. We had some struggles along the way, but I think turned out perfect in the end. All music rights go to Epidemic Sound: Epidemic Cypher (instrumental version) - Xavy Rusan, Beachy - Gregory David. Too bad the Rear can’t go any lower, but at least it’s the ride height I wanted.

Just recently got a 21 SEL, same color and everything as yours. Been super nice having all these videos as walkthroughs for everything I wanna do. Appreciate the effort to document it man!

Next upgrade should be led headlights to get rid of the halogen bulbs I did it and it made a big difference makes everything flow together with the daylight running lights

@@slimg3tstr863 the headlight housing on the Elantra is a little tight but you don’t need to remove the bumper just try your best to squeeze through and install the led lights

Which LED did you get?
@@youling1997 I tried out the SEALIGHT and ALLALIGHTING LED's. Ended up getting HID bulbs instead.
Brother, you have no idea how happy I am that I found this video. I just bought these for my Sonata and was wired that they were going to make the ride to harsh. Based on your video it looks like these will be perfect. Any regrets at all?
Awesome! Actually no regrets I love the ride quality and handles way better. Only wish it was easier to lower the rear more (not that maybe I should but it’s still tempting) lol. It could be done by removing the rear coil spring adjusters or getting shorter springs. But the current ride height probably is best to keep me from ruining my fenders or scraping on everything lol

Hey man, have the same car did you install LED's on your headlights? Can you do a video showing how to swap those out? Thanks.
I actually did, but found the led light pattern to not be very good long distance even though it looked way brighter. I may try a different bulb in the future and make a install vid.
If you try it now, easiest way is to turn the wheel, take off the inner fender clips you you can pull back the liner and install from the wheel well.
Edit: if I do it again, I’ll probably try lasfit

I had those locking lugs on my Elantra when I bought it new in 2021 and the dealership never gave me the tool extension to take them off. I ended up getting a set of stripped bolt sockets and hammering them on and screwing them off that way. Love the mods so far super clean car

What wheels are these they look super good and flow with the body
Stock 2019-2020 Veloster r spec wheels. I got lucky and found a whole set used fresh off a 2020 still like new.
Both of the perches on my rear didnt fit the place on the arm. The diameter was smaller that the arm any suggestions on a work around
Are you sure you order the correct part type? For the non turbo Elantra have to make sure you order the type for torsion beam suspension

@@07durrell yeah that has to be the only explanation, especially since it’s on the rear (that’s where the car is different than other models).
Is there a easy fix to it other than re ordering a whole kit
@@07durrell maybe they can see if the front suspension is identical. Maybe then they could swap the rear for the correct part. I’m assuming your rear suspension you got isn’t a spring with a separate strut?
Hey man i love the car, when you go to buy the coil overs there are two options, both for elantra n, which one did you select?
Thanks! You have to select torsion beam style for the non turbo models, turbo models have independent suspension.
There’s also a DT and mono shock option, I selected DT which should be a bit softer but also cheaper

No problem. Definitely better turning and handling with the summer tires and wider set. No problems with fuel economy.
Just a little easier to feel bumps with the lower profile tires
I know most people go for low, how high you think you can get these coilovers set for ground clearance?
Good question, I wouldn’t really know cuz I never tried. The front can definitely give you a ton of ground clearance on high setting. The rear can probably get close to stock if not higher. My new setup removed the rear spring adjusters so I am only on spring and rubber. Keeping it LOW now 😂

For sure, on sharkracing. I selected rear torsion beam, and Type DT for dual tube.
If you have trim se, SEL, or limited it will be torsion beam. N-line and n are real multi link.
You can chose the MP it’s more expensive and may run a little stiffer. I went dual tube since I figured it might be softer for a daily driver.
Would the sharkracing springs drop fit the cn7? Its written elantra N ?
If it’s labeled for Elantra n, I’m guessing it will not work. You’ll want to find springs for the right model, they use different suspension
hey man i have a 2021 sel also and i want to buy these exact coil overs but i am curious as to how it effected the ride quality/ smoothness? How does the car drive after putting the coils on?
Not bad at all. Definitely stiffer but it’s not rough at all, handles bumps well. Turns way better without body roll too

Did you use both rubber bushings top and bottom for the rear spring kit?
Not bottom, the metal spring adjusters replaced the rubber bushings on bottom.
Can you put spacers on your car I want to see how it’s going to look because I might do the same
Wheel spacers? I actually already have 20mm spacers on. Check out my video on the wheel spacers install to see what it looked like on the stock wheels

@@ace_helix4186, I am curious, if you are modding this car this much, why didn't you get at least N line. I mean full N is the best, but came out much later. I am getting N next month. But I don't understand why you would mod Elantra SEL that has 140hp, even its suspension is not set up to be for sporty driving.....the torsion beam says it all...
@@Soul_Flow_ not planning to do performance mods on this car. Making the perfect daily driver that basically drives itself! This car is taking me to work and long trips, if I got an n line I would have lost all the features I love about this car and gained none that I needed.
Would have lost my digital dash, adaptive cruise control, wireless apple CarPlay(to go with my wireless charger), and just got a smaller engine with a turbo for maybe worse reliability which was one of the most important things for my daily driver. With adaptive cruise control and auto lane centering it basically drives itself.
I plan to have another car to build for performance soon. If I had an n or n-line I couldn’t maintain my warranty’s with the mods I would want to put on it lol. I need a project car outside of warranty 😂

Much stiffer than stock, but not as stiff as other coilovers. Honestly super comfortable, wouldn’t have it any other way

Where did you get the gloss trim pieces by the doors?
I got them on eBay. They were perfect for well over a year but just starting to fade the topcoat. What type of suspension does this SEL have. ?
Torsion beam in the rear, independent front.
How did you unbolt the rear shock hat?
Have to use two jacks up under the rear springs, lower the car down onto those. Pump that up just enough to get the lower shock bolt free. Once the bottom is off, get the top bolts.

@@MrTherandomvidsguy oh ok, trying to remember exactly. I believe there’s a piece I had to hold from spinning with an adjustable wrench, while we loosened the end nut on top.
Where did u get your exhaust kit from?
Custom made at a muffler shop, they don’t have any pre made for the new ones. I had them make a custom axleback with an exhaust flange-magnaflow muffler-tips. Then I had them cut out my stock resonator and replaced with a vibrant ultra quiet.

@@ace_helix4186 do you know if any of your parts like the spoiler and side skirts would fit my 2022 N Line ?
@@ace_helix4186 usually all the parts I find say 2021+ Hyundai Elantra all models , but I don’t know if it’s also the N lines as well
@@roman6627 those would be compatible. The trunk and side body is identical on the n-line. Only the rear bumper and front bumper is different, so the splitter wouldn’t work on back. Front lip MAY fit but idk
Are those the monotube or twin tube ones?
I went with twin tube, figured maybe it would be a little softer for daily driving? Not sure but it rides great so I’m happy!

What size rims and size tire?
Rims 18x7.5 +53, tires 225/40/18. I have 20mm wheel spacers on so that’s why 53 offset looks more aggressive.
