Thanks for the instructions / video. Please consider using a long screwdriver or something similar for a pointer instead of a finger. You have done this in the past and it is so much easier to see what you are referring to than your finger.
I bought the pump delete kit but returned it. I gutted the pump and removed all of the additional lines etc. the pump free wheels and doesn’t extract any horsepower. I removed the exhaust manifolds and went with headers. I also converted my exhaust to the 92-96 system. It made a serious difference in performance.
Wassup man I watched your video on when you put a Chip in the ECU ( computer ) . Ya said you wasn't noticing any difference well that's because when you do a Hi-Po Chip in older GM'S it's not necessarily a plug and ready to pin ya back in the set when you take it out and stand it. You gotta make other adjustments as well such as with the IAC ( idle air control ) , TPS ( throttle position sensor ) those need to be increased from their stock preset as well as the timing . Make sure to disconnect tha timing ground wire frist it a Brown wrie on driver's side near firewall it'll kinda look like a in line fuse Link that's very important bring your timing up 3 degrees then tha TPS up 3 volts by losing tha 2 small tourex screws then increase IAC by 2 volts . them repeat till she begins to start Coming alive . . You'll need a scanner to do this with I would recommend an ole school frist series snap-on scanner . They talk to those cars better
Nice one!! I did this on my 84 plus AC system delete. Did not have to get any kit for it, just Re route my new shorter belt (70.5”) All this (AC compressor, accumulator, condenser and air pump with all accessories and hardware) was over 50lbs. The car runs great and way cooler, as radiator can breath better and cool the car more efficient without condenser in front of it.
Did this on my 91 gta tpi. No smog pump delete pully needed. They actually sell a delete belt that comes with rerouting instructions. You can also cap the lines leading into the headers if you dont want to take them out.
Great video but where did you get the pulley assembly.. I’m waiting on the hose and caps to do the bypass for the plenum .. Thanks and keep them coming..
I JUST ORDERED ONE FOR MY '87 C4 right after I installed my new AFR ENFORCER CYLINDER HEADS (195cc intake runners 64cc combustion chambers) and SPEED MASTER BLOCK HUGGER SHORTY HEADERS. I took ALL emissions equipment JUNK off mine. So we'll see soon on the new build.
Note, the easiest way to get this belt on/off is to release tension then remove it from the alternator, since it's the smallest pulley. You don't need to loosen anything else. I think this is worthwhile to get all that crap off there, but this kit doesn't match anything in the engine compartment at all.
What do you do with the vacuum ports on the back end of the plenum? I have the kit and caps for the headers but not sure what to do with the vacuum ports.
Do you know anything about the C4s with the "air injection emissions valve" or if it's called that, can I just rip that out or do I need to plug some stuff up
Finally subbed cant wait for more i have my 91 on jack stands awaiting engine pull etc. Just building time and cash but these vids help add to the list. Keep them coming!
I have a 1984 and the smog pump is starting to squeal . So I plan on taking off smog pump and putting in a delete kit pully . Because I can't wait for the port caps to be delivered I'll need to get at Home Depot . . . . Are they 1/2" caps?? Great video :) Thanks !
TPIS has a very good smog pump delete pulley that works very well. A better bet is to delete the entire EGR and using the smog pump as a crank case evacuation pump. your engine will rev sooooo much faster and it will actually make horsepower.
@@bry2k prostockers have been doing this for decades, they use a custom designed oil pan but I use the port in the valve cover and it doesnt suck out any oil.
I just looked at mine and it appears they are pressed in. Might better to just remove the check valve and cap it like you did. At least until I can get some headers.
Ok I'm doing this now and did u just put a rubber cap or leave the pipe open that goes straight up between the water pump and ac compressor? That went to one of the solenoids
I just finished doing the coolant bypass and smog pump delete. I was considering just using a plate with gasket sealer and two bolts to cap off the line to the smog pump. Simpler. Any problem with doing it that way. I am doing this for my son’s (gifted to him) 1989 c4.
Do you have a link for the smog pump delete kit? The link isn't working and the one I just bought doesn't line up and in spite of saying you can use the same size belt you can not.
Just for public information, modifying your L98 C4 corvette is a all-or-nothing affair. There are no bolt-ons you can do to really increase power. You have to ditch the stock heads and cam to make gains. If you want to keep the TPI system, your cam must have a 116 LSA, which has a very tame idle. The duration and lift can vary, as long as it doesn't have too crazy overlap. Tuning a TPI is not easy either-for 85s it requires soldering a new chip for every tune. For later years it is a chip swap to tune. TPIS will tune per your cam, heads, and valvetrain geometry.
@@etwasbauen6615 I did rewatch your videos and it appeared you changed the chip before removing all the emmisions. I got my pump removal kit. And tpi inlet. I’ll get with you on the hose in the spring!
Hi ya, I just subscribed to your channel, I own a 86 Pace Car and a 81 that I'm currently biulding. I've been thinking of doing this delete, but leave the pump on. Also going to do shorty headers and complete Magna Flow exaughst.
Thanks man, but you got to know this 86 was under water for 2 1/2 months, then sat beside a pole barn for 3 years. So it wasn't in good shape to start with. Everything has been replaced, and rebuilt. The interior is done the way I wanted it, Alpine stereo system, custom seat covers, matching center console and shifter boot. Also dash, information cluster and center console, has been done in carbon fiber. So it's not stock, engine is a Summit Racing .040 over ATK block, with flowed and polished stock heads.
If you want your C4 repainted should hit me up unless you like that it looks matted only thing, is I live in New York State lol I have watched this video a few times wondering if I should do this with my C4
Not a complete delete. Have to also remove the EGR valve and all piping then replace the ECM chip with an EGR delete chip. If not the ECM is searching for the EGR signal and will set a code and still set the air-fuel mixture as if the pump was still there. Do it right or don't do it at all.
Hey, first of all, nice Corvette. It is similar to the static C4 which I guess every Corvettes fan knows. I guess 85 came with 230hp and 330lb ft of torque from the factory. You probably didnt test it on dyno, but how much hp you think you gain with all these mods? I am looking forward to buy one next year:)
there are no real bolt on power adders for the L98 as a daily driver there are some bolt in parts that might get it to 250/275hp. but the cost of pumping up an L98 is high you will easily spend $2500 for not much more power. i spent $6k got a crate 383 450hp SBC, holley fuel injection system long tube headers and flowmasters. money is better spent replacing it with a crate motor 400/450 hp. they are available at JEGS or summit racing and a lot of others.
Hey, I just subscribed to your channel. I also own a C4 and a C3 vette. My C4 is a 86 Pace Car. It was a flood victim, (no insurance on it at the time) then sat beside a pole barn for 3 years before I bought it. Since then it's been a completely disassembled, and everything electical was replaced. All new interior was installed. The original engine cracked out in the #7 cylinder, so I replaced it with a ATK .40 over block from Summit, and the heads where rebuilt and flowed. I've been thinking of doing the smog delete, and add a pair of shorty headers, with a new duel exaughst system from Magna Flow. So I thank you for this video to help me thru that. Should add some more h.p. to it.
So, the pump takes about 1/2 hp to run, so removing it, at minimum, adds that amount back to the drive train. And of course the weight savings, improves things. How the emissions are effected, and performance improved on that basis, no idea, does anyone have a idea on that?
Why use the delete pulley instead of getting the right size belt and run it without.
Just Completed the smog pump delete the coolant bypass and the third cat delete. Thanks again for all the help. Very happy with the Results.

What was involved in gutting the pump? Just open it up and remove everything? I like this idea, but this kit looks horrible.

That smog pump is worth money , hard to find. In Ca.

@@bry2k use the breather port of the valve cover as the intake of the smog pump and send it to the collector of either header.

What are those rims? They look so nice
I also removed the catalytic converter.
Yea i might do something with the exhaust next!
Great chennel. Where do I get the brack and pully?
eBay sells them for about $40 bucks. Bought one for my C4 ' 90 Convertible
What thread and size caps did you use to block off the port on the headers?
1/2 I'm literally doing the same buy at home depot
