This is your best one yet!!! Catching them lowering men to the dock was outstanding! You are the DUDE, man! Love all the boats, can't get enough, watch over and over, thanks a million.
Thank you! This is about as close as I have been to any ship in Toledo. They don't make it easy to get close at all and some places down the river it is impossible to view anything-there is just no place that isn't off limits.
You are quite correct to refer to L. E. Tregurtha as a "boat" as befitting her current lake service. When she was originally a "saltie" she was termed properly a "ship" (tho smaller at that time): Nautical lingo can be just as "quirky" as railroad terminology! The Tregurthas ocean going heritage can most be determined by her relatively sharp and flaired bow design as contrasted by the more blunt type on most made for lake service boats. Her actual original name as a naval tanker was "Chiwawa" after the river as all US Navy tankers were named after US rivers--the constant flow of liquids! The Chiwawa even earned a WWII Battle Star after surviving a 45 ship Atlantic convoy attacked by over a dozen U-Boats (believe 5 ships were lost in that action). One last point notice the level of the forward deck house just below the pilot house (on top) that has the larger tha normal windows as that area has specially outfitted staterooms/lounges for such as company execs, invited guests, etc to enjoy a trip: Would love to go on one of those voyages. As always your work is first rate and extremely informative and enjoyable-always look forward to your next offerings!
Those are indeed the wind turbines in southwestern Ontario you're seeing. They're quite tall, so even if you can't see the ground in that shot, the turbines could definitely still be visible. In your opening shot with the 2nd mystery freighter, the land behind the boat is that same part of Ontario (east of the opening of the Detroit River), but that seems to be from much higher up than the shot in question.
Fun fact, the smoke we see coming out her stack isnt in fact smoke. She's pretty much a zero emission ship and that is in fact steam we see coming out there. After her recent dry dock and refit shes probably one of the cleanest running ships on the lake and arguably one of the best looking on the water. Shes had an interesting life, being at the Japanese surrender signing among other things and events. Sweet drone footage
Oh wow! That's pretty incredible they're able to upgrade the boat so much. Sounds like she's got plenty of life left in her if they're investing that kind of equipment in her.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I've got one in the works on Inman Yard in Atlanta but that's it for the next few weeks. I'm hoping to get to Conway Yard outside Pittsburgh soon. If you have any yard suggestions in the Midwest, I'm always looking for new places.
yeah single piece./cast propellers haven't been a thing since the early 80's! if she's dry docked during the season it;s one of three things under the waterline propulsion steering or a hull leak! those could be canuck side wind turbines no telling how far out they're building personally they can take that pie in the sky hippy bullshit and shove it sideways those idiotic turbines mess up the bird hunting for 75 miles around them for no benefit!!! if you;'re interested in unusual lash ups you might want to check out 1960gambit's Sunday upload Scott caught a full 100 car bootlegger with a 90 to a 100 car coal drag on the back end!
Great video , good to see ships coming into Toledo and a BIG FAN of lake freighters !

I am always glad to hear you like the video.
The Tregurtha unloads at my workplace north of Toledo. I'm fortunate enough to get pretty close to her. She's an awesome sight upclose!
What stunning video action! And a perfect day. Can't thank you enough for the time and effort you put into this one.!
Thank you very much.
I'm glad you enjoyed it.

It really is a shame there's not a better spot toward the mouth of the river to enjoy the boats coming and going.
Great video and information provided. Enjoyed this a lot, thanks.
Thank you very much.
I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Interesting. I did several searches for "wind farm and Lake Erie" and didn't find anything.
Thank you for letting me know.
@@nkyrailfan It's just a small bunch of them, located in the fields SE of Amerstburg, ON.
