It is a mystery to myself and many other Carol and Julie fans as to why the tv special has not been released on DVD yet . It was a historic event in the world of entertainment
@@lindaeasley4336 I think its because there are so many copies, its not lucrative enough. I cant wait for the 1959 BBC show with Julie andrews to be released also.
I love Carol doing "Wouldn't It Be Loverly", the song made famous on Broadway by Julie Andrews, and Julie's reaction was great. Julie's voice is angelic, but the two ladies work really well together.
The brilliance of this performance is unmatchable! The musical arrangements, the harmony of the voices, the purest and delightful fun of Julie and Carol singing together, and just the talent of these two is far superior than half of the current artists all put together. This is about 10 minutes of songs, singing in harmony, one of the pieces are difficult, two different voices, no ego, and the result is simply splendid. Julie's voice at the end is as heavenly as it could be. Certainly, Mrs. Andrews had such a gorgeous unique voice. Thank you for this gem.
Julie:I tell you what Carol: whhhhhhhhat ! 😅 These two make class and goofiness look so effortless there amazing ! When the camera did a street view from behind them my stomach dropped the auditorium was huge! Aha 😅
Far out Ms. Andrews probably carries the most beautiful vocal instrument of the 20th century, at par with the top echelons of operatic singing, to the likes of Callas, Corelli, Pavarotti, if not better in terms of vocal clarity and that bell like quality. Her voice is simply like the first rays of the morning sun.
Aw man, perfect description. I mean, just hearing her speak at the beginning of this video, with that slight reverb....it would be a perfect way to start the day, with a Julie Andrews monologue.
Julie Andrews has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard! She is my favorite singer of all time my favorite actress of all time! I could just listen to her talk as well as sing all day!
No voices can match this performance. I don't mean that opera or pop have failed, just that this perfect melding of two voices is simply impossible before or after this performance. I do regret that Carol Burnett let her comedy overwhelm her stage fright and superlative voice. I feel somewhat sure that Julie Andrews bonded with her and performed with her because she (Andrews) recognized in Burnett a voice to match her own.
Such a great chemistry between these two superlative performers. No wonder they made several appearances together. (I wish they'd have made a movie as a double-act!). A playful warmth backed up by solid talent. Sparkling!
I wandered into this after some drunken browsing, I'm probably the least likely person to have ever encountered this performance and I honestly have no idea who either of these women are but this was on of the most most nuanced and perfectly crafted performances I've ever seen. I was totally blown away here in the year of our lord 2022.
I've gotta say, I like the live better. Nobody can sing live better than recorded nowadays. True talent, these two ladies. Much much love and respect for them!!
I am going to be singing in a chorus at Carnegie Hall next March. The only thing that keeps running through my mind is all the spectacular people who stood on that stage. Especially Julie and Carol. They are my absolute favorite of all time. It seems so unreal.
Congratulations ahead of time for your March performance! When I performed there over 20 years ago, I sat dangling my feet over the stage with arms above of head saying, "I'm here where Julie Andrews and Carol Burnett sang!!" I was so happy. Of course I thought of the incredibly talented others who performed. I was so grateful just to touch the stage. My husband was the gracious one who helped me get to Carnegie, held our newborn, while I performed in our choir.

Nice to hear this live version as compared to the studio one released on Columbia records. The main problem with putting this on DVD would be all the music clearances and royalties involved. Thank you for this.
Awwww! It is the first time that I come across this. What I've been missing! It has been a delight to have heard this two amazing voices together🤩! I heard Carol for first time in "Annie" and Julie in "Mary Poppins". This, despite its funny side, has made me nostalgic.
This was fantastic and beautiful. Thank you so much for posting it. Julie Andrews has been my favourite actress for as long as I can remember and her voice always gives me goosebumps. She is partially the reason why I went into music and am now a music teacher. I have introduced many students to her as well and they love her equally as much. What a treat to see her performing with Carol Burnett!
Many thanks for posting this great performance, which I was fortunate to watch glued to my TV while living in DC! A highlight indeed, and wonderful music perfectly interpreted to wit!
Wow! Both sopranos but different techniques. Carol had a well developed chest/mix voice to belt like that while Julie has a flexible voice, smooth transitions and uses a more classical style singing at the top notes
So i heard that they re-did this medley for President Johnsons inaugural gala as well 5 or so years later. Can you imagine hearing that version as well and comparing the two! AHHHHH Someone please find it for posterity. These artists are phenomenal not like the gagas, adels, and mamas.
Back when celebrities had talent, beautiful singing voices, and could entertain an audience without being nasty, vulgar, and explicit. These two performers were simply grand.
I knew it was on videotape. So many of these early CBS broadcasts were recorded in both media when videotape was new, but in retrospects they always play the kinescope only, and that's all I ever saw of this special. This is the same age as me (56 years old) and I have never seen it and don't think it's been rerun. Is there any chance it will be remastered to DVD for purchase?? I'd pay a hundred million bucks to see it!!
She was doing nothing to detract from Julie's performance. In some ways I think she was trying to keep it together, did she wipe away a small tear at the end? Julie in her heyday, singing live, was an emotional force to be reckoned with. When she sang in My Fair Lady some people in the audience claimed they felt an almost out-of-body experience - and they were not sitting next to her! You would need to ask Carol if she can remember.
While J.A. has been quoted as saying that she dislikes doing TV(particularly her 1970s variety series for ABC), I thought she and Carol did a fine job on this medley.
Maureen wanted to relay it was just that same lighthouse tower where dove of peace got her scorched fanny for excused again where there's weakest link excused again

These ladies are a blessing to the world. I would love to be able to see all of these. Even if you placed it only on UA-cam.
@@lindaeasley4336 Its a mystery the sheer number of old content that isn't released. Do they want it all to be forgotten?!
Carol could sing straight better than most top singers of her time. When she adds comedy to that----UNSURPASSED!!
I love Carol doing "Wouldn't It Be Loverly", the song made famous on Broadway by Julie Andrews, and Julie's reaction was great. Julie's voice is angelic, but the two ladies work really well together.
When Carol says 'Oh yeah!' after 'Oh no Anita no! ' was hilarious
It was probably exactly what Anita was thinking in the original musical…!

THEY'RE Amazing !!!
Two talented girls who both became Legends.
For someone who is more a comedic actress than a singer, Carol sure held her own with Dame Julie and Queen Beverly. :)

Would love to see these two do a show together in 2022. They are such icons and fabulous singers.
Julie’s voice was destroyed by surgery
but she can sing-speak sort of thing, like she did in her Netflix series "Julie's Greenroom".
I miss talent like this.
So do I. I suspect we are not alone.
Talent in its purest and most refined form. Two great ladies of our lifetime who are blessings to the world. Thank you for sharing this.
Thank you for your comment. We're glad you enjoyed it.
Carol: *starts singing "Wouldn't it be loverly"*
Julie: Ooooooooh... *facepalm*
XD
When Julie Andrews opened her mouth, the birds sang.
I love it at 5:20 when Julie signals to Carol that she's flat

Welcome to real talent !
You might want to look them up. You'd get to see MUCH more of their talent!
You might know Miss Hannigan from Annie and Mary Poppins
Carol Burnett and Julie Andrews
I've gotta say, I like the live better. Nobody can sing live better than recorded nowadays. True talent, these two ladies. Much much love and respect for them!!
Glorious - Julie was/is superb, and Carol does sing really really well with her!
Besides, they are "chums" through and through!
Wow this is such a surprise. I had no idea that Carol Burnett would keep up with the incomparable Julie Andrews. Two legends.

What a treat! I stopped by for the novelty of it, but was captivated by the power of these two voices and talents.
What a clever masterpiece..wow
How can the sing so well with those corsets on?
I love them so much separately and to find out they performed together just brings me so much joy and happiness
I loved how julie sung the "I love a man... OMG! I can hardly breath! It's a one of a kind voice... it's rare!
The West Side Story section is especially wonderful.
Got to hand it to Julie for hanging in there with a heavyweight performer like Carol...
Brilliant unbelievable thanks for posting...
Julie has 8 octaves. She can sing anything and improve it. Bravo to Carol for bringing the songs down to earth.
I just landed on this, what a delight. Reminded me of wonderful voice Julie Andrews and the amazing pacing Carol has.
Such a dynamic duo... vibrant beauty,
wit and talent woven forever into the very fabric of our lives and cultural history.
💓💓💓
Two of my favorites of all time and some crazy person had the idea to put them together.💖

At least until next decade, when they go into public domain under the copyright laws at the time those songs were written and published.
Miles Montemore , shouldn’t be a problem. Production staff get permissions and pay royalties regularly.
at 1:13 I get major princess Diaries vibes as if I'm watching Carol Burnett as Lilly and Julie Andrews as Mia
How I wish these two would do a film together while there's still time.
I so miss these timeless music and comedy!
Thank you immensely for the feedback. It's a treat to see these clips in their original medium at any rate. Viva videotape!!
Brilliant performance ever. Bravo.

I would say that Carol is more of a Mezzo Soprano which is why she’s got much more of a chest/mix voice.

Why there should always be an alto when there is a soprano in one video.
Hello everyone!
Could someone tell me what are the names of the songs, please?

Debby, Brian, Allen, Rick, Daryl and Joan.

oldies for even this oldie
Probably prior to Sound of Music.
