When we talk about the defensive front, there are a few things to focus on. They do have the size. They do have the talent. And just as importantly, they have the COACHING. We need to remember that. The insights being offered into scout teams are fascinating. This is a part of the game that I have never heard about, and yet it is crucial in the development for some if not all of the players who participate on them. I wonder if it’s true that all players improve, but I suspect that just as in life, not everyone improves in every situation. Certainly the starters gain from being able to face off against different looks and simulated situations reflecting teams that they are about to play. Anyway, the season approaches. I can’t tell you how important this first game against LSU is. If we win, it will springboard the confidence of our team before they start their first game of official Big 10 play. If they lose, let’s hope that our coaching staff imparts on them that this first game was a learning experience, and one that they can come out of even stronger. It’s go time folks. Time to get set to Beat the Tigers. Fight ON everyone!
Adding a SECOND comment, which is a first for me in this edition of the Huddle. Guys. The rivalry between USC and UCLA never dies. Why? That fire was lit far more than half a century ago, when the students on both campuses realized it. Knew of this football game that happened every year between the two schools. I was one of those students back in the day. I will never forget what it felt like to walk into the Coliseum for my first game day experience. That day it wasn’t even against UCLA. My young eyes couldn’t take it all in; I hadn’t seen a crowd like it, and I knew what was before me was something incredibly meaningful and special. I don’t remember who we played that day. But I remember very well who we played on that first game day against the Bruins. To me, they were the hated ones. To my mother and my father however, not so much. I was the progeny of both sides, having my father going to SC and my mother UCLA back in their college days. I owe my very existence to both of these universities, and I have friends from both of them. These two schools need each other, and the rivalry makes it even more special. Although not each person on either side realizes it, the moment someone presses a button and one of the two schools evaporates, Avengers style, life from the standpoint of the students who are left without that rivalry would mean less, and they would realize the loss of it. Football wouldn’t be as special. This rivalry is something very special indeed. It not only defines part of the student experience, it is a cross town event, defining part of what it means to be immersed within the California experience if you live here. I can tell you this much: this football rivalry means everything to the student bodies of both universities for the most part. Sure there are a few that don’t care and that’s fine. But otherwise, trust me, those student populations both know very well when it’s game time between them. I wouldn’t have it either way, and I suspect neither would they. Even though we grow older, let’s not forget what this rivalry means. If your blood runs either Cardinal and Gold or Baby Blue and Gold, let that blood continue coursing through your veins. Sorry about that “baby blue” comment UCLA, I had to choose one side. I’m a proud Trojan and always will be. Fight On!
Chris is spot on about UCLA v USC. Back in the 60's 70's and 80's, both teams recruited locally and the players all knew each other. Tere used to be all kind of pre-game hi-jinks. It was a really big game. I hope the ND v USC stays big.
Marc, you are right, Miller Moss has to be able to spread the ball around, with all these weapons that we have and they are young and a lot more coming, it will be super hard to keep everyone. Especially the tight ends, and all of the wide outs!!
Chris is 100% on point regarding scared straight. Truthfully, I thought Lincoln was close to pulling a Sark & just not being capable of showing his face on campus. Sark got away with loses at Washington, at USC, you don't get away with that same stuff. At Oklahoma, Riley could have so so defensive coordinators, at USC, he can't. Yes, a glorified coordinator vs a great head coach is right. Lincoln is a great coach & will prove it this season. He reminds me of Bill Walsh.
Not an SC fan but I would bet the offense is better with Moss than CW running around doing his own thing. LR is as good of an OC that there is so having someone actually run his offense takes advantage of LR offensive calling abilities. May not be a great coach and program builder but there isn’t a better OC out there.
Dinardi’s comment was clearly someone who doesn’t know our personal and is probably based on a few select plays he saw in one practice. I shook my head when he said that 🙂↔️
That guy said he was concerned about the back end because they were having trouble with our skill guys…I think anyone in the country is gonna have trouble with them
Lost my linebacker spot senior year in 09. Went hard all week at practice against the 1s for offense. Cracked my helmet and have a scar on my forehead and earned my spot back. It’s tough but makes you work.
The last time we felt real animosity towards UCLA was when Jim Mora was there. They were kind of good also, we had recruiting battles of LA recruits then, remember? It hasn’t been a real rivalry since then.
Look 👀 at how Erik .. says wait a minute if we said something like that we’ll lose points then Chris comes back with his .. mental ‼️ issues and go. Oh yeah 🤔💡 if you two say that you’ll be disqualified or get panelized points, PS ‼️ something happened in his life as a teenager or adult something to have someone play games like that very unfair and immature. Oops 😬 I Drop the mic. 🎤
Talking about scout team, sophomore year in high school, varsity would bring up some JV to go against. That was Brandon Hancock's senior year. You pretty much got bulldozed if you got in his way lol.
USC & UCLA players are no longer players who grew up together in pop warner in LA, everyone is from other places so it’s not big anymore. Unfortunately
I’m more worried about the O line than the D line. Why? Because a new elite staff was hired to improve the program, but not for the O line. Last year, there were multiple times when the O line & Tight Ends weren’t blocking the defense-they were getting through and sacking or disrupting the QB. Also, the run offense was not very effective last year. MarShawn Lloyd led the team with 820 rushing yards, averaging 74.55 yards per game. They also got sacked 34 times for 267 yards-and that was with an outstanding QB who was great at avoiding sacks & disruptions.
This season should be the season of test for both OL Coach Henson, and Tight Ends Coach Hanson. If both of those squads don't show major growth in this their third year, they should not be returning next season. It's just that simple. We will definitely see.
Forefathers gave you (media) protection against evil for valid reasons Chris. Forefathers understood our ability to abuse power. All of you should report absolutely nothing from riley's world. Absolute shame riley is allowed to sensor what you see. Shame on you my LAWYER person, Thanks Marc,

UCLA & SC have both been irrelevant and mediocre for about 15 years this is on both sides for the rivalry lacking. The last 12 years the series is 6-6.
What’s up, Mr. Marc Kulkin Fight On 🗡️✌🏽💪🏽😤 .. nice try Mr. competitor you tried to save Chris something he wouldn’t do for you but .. cheat you out of the game of rules he make up .. 🗡️✌🏽💪🏽😤
I hope not! I would prefer he calls in from time to time from exotic places around the globe. I can just about hear the question from the gate keeper in the afterlife (if there is such thing). What did you do with the third cycle of your life? I can just about hear Vin Scully, Chick Hearn,, we worked! Damn shame!
I'm waiting to see what Miller Moss brings or does not bring to the table. I'm not sold that he is A list material based on a very "Who Cares?" bowl game.
El hombre does not believe in a Special Team coach. He wants no one personally responsible for that position. El Hombre prefers a government like format to run the unit. Put a government in charge of the Pacific Ocean and in 4 years we'll be able to walk from Malibu to Hawaii. Perhaps now with unlimited coaches on teams he'll throw SP a bone. Stubborn man el hombre.
How can you justify comparing the weight of the offense line as a strength when LSU offense line tackles are 1st round picks and LSU offense line as a whole is best in country and you come up with because USC offense line weighs more so therefore USC defense has had go up against heavier guys so LSU line should be no issues where in the hell does a person come up with that it’s not won or lost on paper it’s on the field performance period and LSU offense line is very very physical they are going to maul at times like truck those guys now keep looking at paper

The line is USC +5.5 with the over and under at 63.5. I'm taking USC with the pts and the under.

Zachariah is too much of a game changer at return to have anyone there but him, he averaged 20+ a return on punt and he’s a potential td everytime
Good news is, SC will be undefeated this year even if we don’t win all of our games.
Game 1 will tell us everything
Its amazing how everyone has gone from concerned to over cocky. Pump the brakes folks, lets let the boys play first.

LA concert Rolling Stones and Gun's and Roses at the Coliseum.
SC should put up a year round time clock in the locker room for the ND and ucla game. I think Michigan has one for the Ohio St game
"Nothing ever good comes from the butt"; gold standard comedy Marc.
I wrote it down Marc, will always give you credit. I'm stealing it buddy!!!!
Per Wiki, Toledo retired from coaching after the 2014 season from being the offensive coordinator at San Diego State.

Safe to say Arledge has won Host spot. Now a matter of holding out to renegotiate.
Miller Moss is the starter 😂 When did y'all record this, Last week??
Chris is right, Best wrestler of all time is Ric Flair but Stone Cold is a close second
Chris, do not get Marc upset.
LSU oline is better than SC’s, size doesn’t matter, they are close in size anyways, it’s talent that matters most

Be reassured, millet didn’t bring an oh well, who cares attitude in prepping or to the bowl game, and that says a lot about him. Miller time!
Never... why as a fan of USC would you want the competition to have any advantage... gag order in affect FOREVER!
Mi-cheating-gan won it the old-fashioned way, they cheated!

Moore Carol Walker Margaret Walker Gary
i dont trust anything marc says. he’s the ultimate bootlicker for SC and Lincoln Riley. Take whatever he says with a massive grain of salt
You must not remember Marc’s critiques of LR during and after last year’s debacle!
This guy 😂
He may not be SCs greatest punt returner, however Mike Battle never took a fair catch!
