Name mainstream rappers that have had more audiences to feed than Drake, where you could literally go on the street and ask 8 people what kind of music they prefer from Drake, and all of them could give you different anwsers. You're expecting people to respond to that long ass thesis of post, but aight I'll take the bait, for now at least. If you're looking at it strictly from the perspective as a business man with a product then yes, there is a case to be made that Drake with all these different kind of people, would want to hit all those demographics. But even business men are taught in like day one of marketing class, that you should segment your potential market, because any message or ad of your product that tries to pander to everyone is gonna be so diluted, to the point you'll end up pleasing nobody, unless you're like Michael Jackson level with almost universal praise. If we'll now go back to the music perspective what he should do, is like Childish Gambino did and just choose one style for one project and then go all in. Because the internet was more for Hiphop people, while Kauai was more towards RnB and his latest was towards funk/Motown.
Myke actually said it was one of the 7-8 songs he really enjoyed, didn't really go in on it but it was mentioned. That has a fucking nasty beat for sure
I feel like drake will be remembered for making singing and rapping at the same time popular, record sales and being the biggest culture vulture in hip hop.. not hating I like some of his music just don't like the fact he takes other ppl ideas and gets away with it
da gingerbread boi yooo, I thought the same thing when I was editing it! Lol Had to be the chair or something tho because we would've clowned the hell out of whoever did it.
Drake doesn't put full effort into his albums anymore because the bar in hip-hop has been raised so low and instead of trying to raise it Drake settles.
I think the reason why drake released 22 songs is because he is trying to cater all of his fans. There are fans who like Caribbean/England style music. There are fans who like more of his trap inspired music. There are fans like Feefo who like to hear him just rap, and fans like Mike who like his r&b inspired songs. (I do realize Mike is not fan, but he does like Drake's r&b style songs), So he tries to fit all of that in an album/mixtape to please everyone. There are definitely fans who like everything, but not everyone is like that. I wish he took a mini-album Kpop approach. BIGBANG released five albums (they only contained two songs each though), and each album was sonically cohesive. There were small parts of the larger theme they were trying to create. I think Drake should release mini-albums, and let his fans know what genres those albums fall into. I hated views, because I had to go through a lot of songs/ genres I didn't like just to get to the songs/genres I did like. I gave up in the middle. There were songs later that I listened to separately from the album that I liked, but I didn't even know were part of the Views album.
Kanye rarely spits personal bars but when he does it's amazing (Saint Pablo, Glow, Love Yourself) The guy said, "Hope I deal with the Karma before my son do", shits deep considering all the wild shit he's done in his career.
He said in an interview right after the Grammys that he almost took all the rapping off Views, cos his other music is what makes him happy. Where is that album?!
I have been complaining about Drake's cultural appropriation addiction for sooo long. So happy they hit the nail on the head. This Jafaican ain't just stealing dancehall, he's stealing grime and getting alt. r&b artists to do entire tracks for him.
i decided to put "More Life" on during a run, and just couldn't wait for it to end. More of the same, like a handful of decent songs and then twice as many filler tracks that nobody will ever revisit. Wish he'd get off this prolificacy tip, step back and take a moment to put out a fully composed and rounded project. For me, "Take Care" was the last project that felt authentically full and stylish. can't wait for that K. Lamar body of work to drop so I have something of lasting substance to dig into!
I think Drake called it a playlist because Hot Line Bling won a grammy for best RAP song because Views was considered a RAP album. In his semtex interview he didn't like the fact that they put him in one category like that. People saying he called it a playlist as an excuse are just ignorant.
I think calling it a playlist is both bullshit and not. It can definitely be an excuse to not put the work in and craft a cohesive project, but we also live in a different time now where kids are growing up on this constant hunger for more music. That latter point said, Drake might've been better off experimenting with releasing a song once a week for four months..to keep his thirstiest fans happy. In this day and age where kods can listen to whatever they want whenever they want, I doubt many people listen to albums from start to finish as a whole anymore.
At first I didn't like this "playlist" outside of Sampha and Skepta's songs and Glow, but a few tracks grew on me. I generally don't care for majority of this, but I really like: Passion Fruit, Madib Ribba, 4422 (Sampha's song), Skepta Interlude, Sacrifices (Young Thug had the best verse, I was impressed), Glow (so unique sounding), and kind of Teenage Fever mainly for the sample.
808's and Heartbreak needs to stop being judged as a rap album...honestly all "rap" albums these days aren't even rap. So their obviously gunna get bad reviews if you put it in the same category as nas, jay z, em album. Personally as a musical project I found 808's to be groundbreaking! a straight 9/10. But as a rap album it would be a 4/10....CUZ ITS BARELY RAP!
From 2010 to like 2013 drake was giving everybody his greatest shit. He was on everybody song I feel like since everyone was trying to have a drake feature.
I listened to More Life once, skipped half the tracks, then just clipped it into a 5 song EP (Passionfruit, Skepta Interlude, Portland, Sacrifices, Glow). The EP's tight.
Yeah I know, I'm messing with you. More Life has none of those caliber. I'm sure a lot of folks would consider "free smoke" lyrical but it's so monotonous that I can't listen for more than a minute
The problem with Drake is that his one skill, which was somewhat diving deep within himself to reveal his goals in music, is now clouded completely by the homes he owns, the cars he drives, and the wave hopping stuff that you simply can't defend. Drake can make good songs in pockets, for different fans, but as a whole he's definitely lost any originality he might've had.
It's actually kinda funny, I'm so disinterested in this project that I'm really not even really that interested in watching the review. I'm gonna drop a like to support DEHH and dip

If we'll now go back to the music perspective what he should do, is like Childish Gambino did and just choose one style for one project and then go all in. Because the internet was more for Hiphop people, while Kauai was more towards RnB and his latest was towards funk/Motown.
When Ken randomly comes in with "MORE TUNE 4 UR HEAD THOP"at 2:57 cracks me up
nobody liked "can't have everything"?
They didn't really listen to that song bruh. He went it on that joint bruh.
BenjerminGaye Exactly! Shit was way wavy. Drizzy flowed like water.
Myke actually said it was one of the 7-8 songs he really enjoyed, didn't really go in on it but it was mentioned. That has a fucking nasty beat for sure
I feel like drake will be remembered for making singing and rapping at the same time popular, record sales and being the biggest culture vulture in hip hop.. not hating I like some of his music just don't like the fact he takes other ppl ideas and gets away with it
8:15 through 8:16. Did that nigga just fart 😂😂😂
Had to go back, now I'm in stitches lmao
lmaoooo
da gingerbread boi yooo, I thought the same thing when I was editing it! Lol Had to be the chair or something tho because we would've clowned the hell out of whoever did it.
Modest Media that shit is too funny bro 😂🤣
That shit sounded wet
Drake doesn't put full effort into his albums anymore because the bar in hip-hop has been raised so low and instead of trying to raise it Drake settles.
Drake gonna be adlibing "Allahu Akbar" in 2020 when he's on the habibi wave 😂😂
Less Life, More Views
I clicked on this so fast i broke my charger
"I WAS TELLIN YALL WHEN 808S AND HEARTBREAKS DROPPED, I SAID DONT LET HIM GET AWAY WITH THIS!" Ken does that shit too much but it's hilarious.
I feel like Drake is a 14-16 track album artist
Ehh. I disagree. I think albums should be an hour max
robert surname Madvillainy
Cadillacta = BigKrit...blank face school boy..1st cudi album....but by no means is my opinion the most important in anyones life so yeah
Kanye rarely spits personal bars but when he does it's amazing (Saint Pablo, Glow, Love Yourself)
The guy said, "Hope I deal with the Karma before my son do", shits deep considering all the wild shit he's done in his career.
Throwback to almost a year ago when they reviewed the skepta project and said that drake would steal his shit next
He said in an interview right after the Grammys that he almost took all the rapping off Views, cos his other music is what makes him happy. Where is that album?!
Great review as always, guys. The zoom-ins on Ken had me dying. Keep it up!
"Drake is like Mystique from X-Men" LMFAOOOOOO! I'm sleep!
At this point I'm on Myke's side. If you think Drake is making 2009 music you're lying to yourself. Just put out solid R&B singles
That zoom-in on Ken when he started preachin. 😂😂
that zoom in on kinge part was to perfect lls
Full DEHH convo on the XXXtentacion and Drake beef
I have been complaining about Drake's cultural appropriation addiction for sooo long. So happy they hit the nail on the head. This Jafaican ain't just stealing dancehall, he's stealing grime and getting alt. r&b artists to do entire tracks for him.
I actually really like More Life but this was hilarious
I've been waiting for this one.
i decided to put "More Life" on during a run, and just couldn't wait for it to end.
Lamar body of work to drop so I have something of lasting substance to dig into!
yeah that definitely had it's share of good stuff. i thought Views was the most redundant, over hyped and overrated project in recent memory.
The whole point of the playlist was to give every Drake fan something they could like.
Legend I agree
I think Drake called it a playlist because Hot Line Bling won a grammy for best RAP song because Views was considered a RAP album. In his semtex interview he didn't like the fact that they put him in one category like that.
People saying he called it a playlist as an excuse are just ignorant.
Legend people just hate on him now bro lmao
They like everything he does...
Can you defend British drake or Jamaican drake or Huston drake
Am I the only the only one whose favourite song is Gyalchester???
Hahaha. The zoom in on Ken when he started going full Ken mode lol
well this should be good
Drake gonna bite the Japanese/Korean flow next. 😂😂
I must be missing something but I think More Life is a classic.
It's definitely cl *ass* ic.
Wow thats embarrassing
Ken's rants are the best
808's and Heartbreak needs to stop being judged as a rap album...honestly all "rap" albums these days aren't even rap. So their obviously gunna get bad reviews if you put it in the same category as nas, jay z, em album. Personally as a musical project I found 808's to be groundbreaking! a straight 9/10. But as a rap album it would be a 4/10....CUZ ITS BARELY RAP!
Just wait until Drake performs "Glow" live...the nigga gonna choke that shit and sound like a dying crow just like he did with "One Dance" on SNL.
Rod's constant zooming in while Ken is spazzing is the most hilarious part of this vid.
From 2010 to like 2013 drake was giving everybody his greatest shit. He was on everybody song I feel like since everyone was trying to have a drake feature.
Still better than Views imo, but y'all are on point
Drake peaked with nothing was the same. Ever since then his albums have gone downhill
I do have to applaud drake for one thing this album did, free smoke somehow managed to make a more annoying drum sound than st anger.
I like watching your guys reviews, cuz it makes me wanna listen to the albums again.
Myke Low Key like Drake lol
I listened to More Life once, skipped half the tracks, then just clipped it into a 5 song EP (Passionfruit, Skepta Interlude, Portland, Sacrifices, Glow). The EP's tight.
Drake has lyrical songs?
Yeah I know, I'm messing with you. More Life has none of those caliber. I'm sure a lot of folks would consider "free smoke" lyrical but it's so monotonous that I can't listen for more than a minute
haven't clicked on anything faster.... ready for this to be shitted on lmao
Top 7 Songs on More Life:
1. Passionfruit
2. Glow
3. Ice Melts
4. Sacrifices
5. Portland
6. 4422
7. Teenage Fever
lmfao u must be lame af irl
Masterov Deskyez you say that because I like 7 songs from a Drake album? Or because I like these particular 7 songs?
I started buying music again, bought this...I don't buy music anymore.
This is what I've been waiting for!
