As you may or may not know, the powers that be have taken issue with my using Dragon Ball music in the opening. I suppose that's certainly their right. As a result, I have made the difficult choice to replace the opening music in most of The Boo Arc videos with a new, UA-cam-friendly piece. I hope you like it. As a compromise, I have retained the original music in a few select Boo Arc videos scattered across the arc. For those who miss the original, follow this link to the opening as I uploaded it in 2020. Almost every interview with Toriyama you've quoted is some variation of a question that's not explained in the story, followed by Toriyama clearly making up some shit on the spot then laughing.

Isn't the M just a symbol faction and the whole Majin thing like and Autobot/Decepticon thing? For example Majin Vegeta is the same as Decepticon Vegeta?
This is one thing I like about Super. It showed how Trunks handled the Buu problem.
Even though Trunks is weaker than Goku and Vegeta at that point, him and Kaioshin managed to prevent Buu's resurrection. Simply because Trunks doesn't take unnecessary risks.
Also his father wasn’t there to make things worse.

It's interesting to know that, where I live (Barcelona), the actor who did the dub for Kaio Shin also did the dub for Trunks.

Yeah I mean I doubt demon beasts are as reliant on food as humans and other beings are. Or he could eat other things, he never said he ONLY ate light
Didn't Supreme Kai say that his kind feeds on light energy? Wouldn't that mean that he needs to eat light?
I know it was a filler scene in the anime, but he did eat a couple of Babidi's henchmen.

Yakon's reaction to eating Goku's energy and Dabura's explanation for Yakon's demise implies that much.
That and the fact that he ate the two minions that summoned him.
Maybe Babidi's henchmen are like analogs to early villains:
- Pui Pui is like Vegeta saiyan ark, because the 10G native planet
- Yakon is like Frieza, because is in the middle? (besides Goku needs to transform in SSJ to win)
- Dabura is like Cell in strength, said by the characters themselves

Goku didn't NEED to beat Yakon by going Super Saiyan since he was whupping Yakon but yeah he finishes the fight as Super Saiyan.

Babidi even puts his 'M' on his ship, his energy stealing needle, etc. So it feels more like his family crest than anything, which makes 'Madoushi' seem like the logical meaning.
That’s a good point actually, since all of his henchmen get the M after being infected by his magic. Besides, “Majin Vegeta” makes no sense given how Dabra, Yakon, and Pui Pui aren’t referred to as Majins despite also working for Bobbidi and having the M, so I actually like your Madoushi explanation better.

At the end of these videos I'm always like "aw man thats it? Couldn't we get a little farther into the story?" And realize that's exactly how I felt when this was airing on toonami. I forgot just how glacial the pacing of this arc is, no wonder I've never seen the whole thing start to finish.
Man the sad thing is this is the only arc i’ve seen from start to finish in the OG cut of dragonball. This arc drags as its like the freeza fight for half of the arc is just people playing pingpong with Buu.

I think one of these questions answers the other, maybe? Yakon is a "magical beast" *because* he's not a logical lifeform--even on his own world, he's a fantasy monster.
That makes sense?
I think that fans (and eventually, the series itself) ridicule Shin because unlike Trunks, who stumbles upon an era of time he supposedly doesn't know much about outside of his mother's tales and casually kills a cybernetically enhanced version of a space tyrant who could blow up planets with a finger alongside his dad, Shin is supposed to be the overseer of the Universe, who is introduced as someone who knows exactly what's going on and even seems to find the fact that Piccolo recognizes him and sees him as such a big deal to be almost adorable, to basically a little child watching the rest of his classmates destroying the teacher's notebooks, too afraid to cooperate with them, too afraid to tell the teacher about it, and too afraid to try and put a stop to them. No wonder he had more luck in Trunks' own timeline.
But Super immensely doubles down upon this when it's revealed that Shin, ironically, much like Piccolo, knows nothing about the rest of the godly hierarchy on par and above him in his own Universe and elsewhere, that he was a complete failure at his job to the point that he let mortals slack on for so long and alongside his kind, allowed mortals with magical powers to almost dethrone them, and that in their attempt at stopping those very threats, by putting their own lives on the line they risked killing the actual person who was supposed to do this very job that at least Shin wasn't even very well aware of, effectively putting their own Universe into more dangers... Which is exactly what happened in Trunks' timeline in the manga, where Bu was never awakened at the cost of Shin's (and thus Beerus' too) life, all according to plan... The incompetence of Universe 7's Gods is so bad that it's hilarious, whether it's supposed to be intentional or not.
Oh, and regarding Goku freaking executing Yakon, it was probably for the sake of Toriyama pulling off the "gluttonous energy-eating character having his greatest strength becoming a deadly weakness" trope, and couldn't do it with Vegeta since he had already dealt with Pui Pui, ain't with Gohan since he wanted him to fight Dabura, but I agree, it is out of character at this point in the series.
I suppose the issue with Shin is at least slightly mitigated when Toriyama later retcons it so Shin was the youngest (and, presumably, least experienced) of four Kaioshin who were killed/absorbed by Majin Boo, and he just happened to be the one who survived and (I guess) dedicated most of his time to chasing Bibbidi/Bobbidi and Boo instead of attending to his actual godly duties.
But now, in Super, there's no excuse. But I blame that more on Super's more awful writing than any personal failing on Shin's part. It also doesn't help that Beerus is such an incompetent Hakiaishin too who, in any other job, would've been fired already for napping all the time and arbitrarily destroying planets for selfish reasons.

It's always been my headcanon that when Shin declared that Universe 7 only had 28 planets with life on them, he was just revealing that he only knows about that many planets with life. There's no way the universe only has that many planets. Frieza had at least 79 planets, come the fuck on. Shin being a complete clown makes more sense than that.

Yakon can perfectly eat the light that enters the Planet ,leaving the world in darkness .
Similar when a species overpopulates , his food lowers down dramaticly .(For example , introducing species to combat pests)

I always assumed that was a reference to the series' power creep. Like ... back in the Saiyan Saga, King Kai's planet had 10x gravity, and that was a big deal for Goku to overcome. But just as Nappa is now pathetic by these guys' current standards, so too is the idea of 10x gravity.
It's yet another one of the reasons why I suggested a few episodes ago how the characters in universe are all aware of how much all these power ups and all these gods take the piss out of each other.
There is a precedent for strong characters not being comfortable in a slightly higher gravity, aka Gohan in the HTC.
It's not that they're struggling, just not used to it, the character wouldn't know at first how much strength to put in each move.

I've been fallowing Dragon Ball Dissection for nearly 3 years now, and I am really glad to have discover this hidden gem of a series.

I‘m sure Yakon eats other things than light. At least in the anime, he eats meat.
Now this is me spitballing but I'd always assumed Yakon's light consumption was more of an extra thing he can eat. He apparently can't eat that much of it either. Shame his species was never properly elaborated on.
But since I despise the revival era I want to leave it as a shame and not have somebody fuck even that potential up.
I do like the Goku and Yakkon fight here, it is a battle in which they battle in a very unconventional way and Goku actually uses a strategy to win rather than just blowing something up, and since those kind of battles are so rare in the latter part of Dragon Ball, it really gives this arc its own flair and style, even with all narrative problems it has.
I'm glad to see this is still ticking after 8 years. Time flies fast.
DBDD is a thing I’ve consumed enough to associate it with the holiday season as much as anything else, so I’m glad that part of it gets to remain intact this year.
One critical piece of info you missed re: Yakon’s death: the final burst of light Goku generates to explode Yakon comes from a transformation into the ascended Super Saiyan state (“Super Saiyan 2”). It’s the one thing that pushes Vegeta over the edge into accepting Bobbidi’s control, as he knew he’d been outclassed. A blink-and-you’d-miss-it item that I feel doesn’t get mentioned enough.
Honestly, I feel like Goku’s demonstration pushing Vegeta to accept Babidi’s control was a bit forced. They were both Super Saiyan 2 at this point, but apparently Goku is still much stronger? How does Vegeta know this? Super Saiyan 3 isn’t a thing yet, so we only know Goku’s stronger because Vegeta says so.
@@bgvo4373 Vegeta is not, in fact, a Super Saiyan 2 at this point. Only through Bobbidi’s mind control and resulting enhancement can he achieve that state. And he never gets to that state again or similar in manga continuity until his rage-boost in Battle of Gods.
@@kinggoldark3853 no. In this scene, he thinks to himself, “So, Kakarotto has surpassed Super Saiyan, as well.” This is right after Yakon exploded. He also confirms that he surpassed Gohan at Super Saiyan 2. He already had the transformation unlocked, but clearly, he felt like he still couldn’t beat Goku.

At that time, SS2 (for short) might be a thing only Gohan could do. Seeing Goku achieving the same could very easily trigger Vegeta into feeling that Kakarot´s bloodline was greater than his. All I am saying is that there are other alternatives. Also, he says he has surpassed Gohan NOW, clearly stating several times that Gohan is weaker than he was before, because... well, SS2 Gohan against Cell was a beast XD. Vegeta could be SS2, or not. That does not change the outcome that he felt outclassed, once more. He cannot be stronger than Goku, and the only way that he got stronger than Gohan was because Gohan was not training enough. As Mistare says, like 10 times per video, Toriyama does not explain things a lot XD.

I'm 1000% sure that Toriyama forgot about Planet Vegeta's gravity waaay before this, as Vegeta (or anyone for that matter) never mentions how easy it is to move in the Earth ever again after Nappa says so when they arrive for the first time.
Pretty sure I already mentioned my opinions on Goku seemingly contradictory moral stances in a previous video, but since the subject has come up again, I'll reiterate. A key difference, I think, would be the simple fact that Goku has spent the past 7 years dead and training in the afterlife.
Presumably at some point during this time he might have learned about souls and the cycle of reincarnation, the fact that in the world of Dragon Ball whenever someone dies if they were a good person they get to go to heaven, but if they were a bad person their soul is cleansed (quite literally scrubbed in the movies) and then eventually reincarnated to try again.
With that in mind, Goku might no longer see death as an ending, but rather a new beginning, and so likewise might now see killing badguys as just speeding up the process of giving them that do over. Granted that rational is only speculation on my part, but I think it does fit with the end of this arc when Goku expresses his hopes that Buu will get reincarnated as someone good.

I was under the impression that the ki of majins couldn't be sensed, since Goku says he can't sense any life energy from Spopovich and he generally seems to judge the majins more so by their movements/air currents or whatever than the ki levels he usually mentions.
That is certainly a possibility. It never really comes up again after that, and none of the others act remotely like Spopovitch, but there's also nothing that goes out of its way to indicate he's an aberration.
I always understood Yakon's planet being the darkness planet because Yakon's people eat all the light all the time, not that the planet doesn't have light to begin with

On the Yakon death, I think it's more Goku knew it'd overload him, but didn't expect the guy to literally explode. So I'd call that more Yakon killing himself.
i didn't hate the supreme kaioshin, but it did bother me how he becomes a reactionary coward later on, his entire gag is that he is a useless rookie that should stay out of this, even later when he gets a power up, he is told that he is useless, his one plan fails and he never try anything again, at the very least trunks keep fighting even if he knew he wasn't going to win.
Also why did picoloo freak out against him again? i don't buy for a minute that kaioshin is stronger than picoloo, the way picoolo and kaioshin are treated in this arc is more testament that we reached the "if your not a saiyan that can sell figurines, you don't matter" highest point until DBS came along.
Piccolo freaked out bc he noticed he was a higher god.
Also Kibitoshin saved Vegeta, Goku, Dende and Satan from Kid Buu
The only thing that confuses me about Yakkon is that....if he eats "light" why does that action make Goku stop being SSJ?
Even if he can eat both light and ki, he shouldn't revert to base from that.

As a kid, I always found it strange Goku didn't scold Vegeta at all about incinerating Pui Pui
The "M" must stand for Magic. Because, you know, that's what Babidi uses.
I know this video is about the manga and not the anime, and the manga isn't broken up like the anime, it's just one long Dragon Ball, but I still think it's interesting to note that I believe Yakon is the first thing that Goku kills in Z. Goku has two kills in all of Z, the big bad Buu, and Yakon.
Not that I'm complaining. I'm not saying that Goku needs to kill more and that I need more blood in my Dragon Ball, but Yakon is a fun trivia answer as one of two things killed by Goku in Z.
I was about to say Frieza then remembered oh right Mecha-Frieza. Well he was sure as hell gunning to finally kill Frieza with that blast.

Crazy how you've been doing this for a decade
Goku not wanting to kill ever since becoming an adult has always been a complicated topic. Yes, ever since the 23rd TB, Goku only killed 2 people in the original manga: Yakon and Kid Buu. But at the same time, he restrained Raditz to make sure Piccolo killed him, he threw a Spirit Bomb at Frieza and blasted him with a Kamehameha as a SSJ with the intention to kill, he killed Frieza and Cold in Trunks' timeline, and he told Gohan to kill Cell and get it over with. And yet faint memories tell me he said he'd kill Kid Buu because unlike every other opponent he's fought, it was literally impossible for Buu to reform outside of reincarnation.
For the point about Yakon, that's making the assumption that he purely sustains himself on light rather than it simply being one of the things he can eat.
As for Goku's indifference towards Vegeta killing Pui Pui or him killing Yakon himself, I wouldn't say it's out of character for him. Goku admitted he shouldn't have gone easy on Freeza and finished him off when he had the chance, the events on and following Namek acting as a logical cause and effect for a chance in mindset. This is made fairly evident from the fact he wasn't expecting for Cell to regenerate and was clearly going for the kill with his Kamehameha. Babidi and his minions had already made a bad first impression with Spopovich's brutality at the Budokai and Pui Pui's general lack of care in killing Yamu as well as Babidi's general control, with them clearly not being people who could be reasoned with and too risky to let them go.
I’m not sure if you read one piece, but I can’t help but wonder if Oda was inspired by the “climbing the tower” segments, since he loves to do something similar in a lot of his arcs completely with the labeled map layout of everyone’s locations.

Looking back at what Beerus said about Freeza, the fact that Shin uses Freeza as a reference of power in order to build how strong Buu is makes sense. Other than Beerus and the Kais who are deities, there must not have been many mortals that could top Freeza in power until Goku shows up, which gives credit Freeza's own belief that he is the strongest in the universe. Kaioshin should have been introduced as someone as strong or just a bit stronger than SSJ2 Gohan like had him fight Gohan and later effortlessly immobilize him. That way the message of this Buu being dangerous wont be lost with the audience.
Kaioshin says he’s stronger than Freeza, while Trunks actually kills Freeza. I think the saying is show, don’t tell.
Yeah pointing out Goku did not care much for killing the villians here. Especially considering at the end when he ends Buu that he wish for him to come back. Curious. I never knew it was Babidis spaceship. Now I like to see his arc through space. Or I guess that whould make him feel to Sci Fi when we want magic from him. I like that the power levels are so diffrent here with Pui Pui up to Dabura. Should happen more often. Now I do think a motivation to get our heroes to rush in whould have been what you suggested before, if Daburas spit toke longer time and they were on the clock and the Dragons wish whould not be enough to reverse it then our heroes has a reason to get to Babidi in a hurry while Kaioshin both wants to take his time but save thier friends. But you know hindsight is just that, Toriyama did not want to have more character then nessecary.
A really simple solution for justifying the murder of Babidi's henchmen could have been for Shin to state that they can only be freed from Babidi's curse by death and that the henchmen which did not commit evil acts before meeting Babidi will be resurrected.
To be fair, Goku and Yajirobe (at least in the anime) played rock-paper-scissors to decide who would get to fight Cymbal way back in the Piccolo Daimo arc. So it's not like Goku never did it before. I'm just surprised Vegeta would be willing to play.

I feel after goku's mercy failed with frieza, after it was his go to with tien piccolo vegeta etc, he realised after frieza spat on his mercy twice that there is no other way.
thats why he was so defeated and disappointed looking when he thought he killed frieza.
After this his mercy and get off my plant talk never resurfaces.
He learns desperation and holding back can cause death and destruction. That's why he urges gohan to kill cell right away
I think I have a decent theory on Goku not caring about killing Yakkon, or Vegeta killing the much weaker PuiPui.
Last time Goku didn't just go for the kill, or tried to play the usual game of stretching out the fight, it was Cell. And he realized then how big a mistake that was because of how close it came to Gohan dying and everyone with it.
The Majin Buu arc for Goku is interesting because he frequently is trying to be a more responsible person, as far as I can see. He trains Goten and Trunks, he encourages Gohan, he's frequently trying to not be the Deus ex Hero he's been in the past. It's only near the end he accepts coming back to life so he can fight Buu that he steps right back. Granted, he still has his moments of not taking things seriously, like with hiding Super Saiyan 3 (granted, that form could have been held back because it would have shortened his time on Earth), but Goku during the Buu arc feels like he's trying to remember the lessons he learned from his mistakes with Cell. Of course, Goku is going to Goku at the end of the day, but he's trying to be better than he was during his biggest mistakes in the previous arc.
That's my opinion, and honestly, trying to think there was some sort of long term plan in Toriyama's storytelling is at best futile, but it's how it always came across to me back in the day.
I just realized something. Even if he had been correct in his assumption that Vegeta isn’t used to higher gravity, Babidi teleporting them to Pui Pui’s planet doesn’t benefit Pui Pui in the slightest because the gravity affects BOTH of them. Yes, in this scenario, Vegeta would be slower and weaker due to the increased gravity but so would Pui Pui. It’s like adding equal weights to both sides of a balance scale, nothing changes.
It was Pui Pui's home planet so he would be used to it. That was the whole point in bringing them there.
