Just finished building a Mavis in VCV2. I've been following your videos for about a year but only patching in hardware until today. This is my first VCV build so it took a while to get MIDI in from Keystep Pro 9 and audio out and to figure out how to get modules into my library but now I am playing it! The pace of the video was quick so I paused a lot but everything went together without problems. The build order helped me see the relationship between the Mavis hardware and the signal flow as implemented in VCV. Thanks as always!
Oh nice, welcome to VCV land :) I'm glad you enjoyed the build. I think that this is the main reason why I do these builds, just to see more closely how things work. It can be quite interesting :)
Excellent stuff man! The Mavis looks like a fun wee box but I’ll look forward to having a play around with this and adding some bits to it. Cheers man, appreciate the effort you put into this 👍
I'd like to remind about the challenge: to replicate the Ciat-Lonbarde Cocoquantus in VCV Rack. :P I think it's worth it, because it's something completely different that the newest little Moog. Lo-Fi delays, looper, and lots of modulation...
Thanks so much! I looked at the techno system before but I'm not so sure how to approach this since most of the modules are dedicated drum voices. But I will have another look :)
Loving the jam at the end can't wait to build this my learning was going well and now I have Covid and my brain is so fogged and I can't breathe at times so I will wait a few days until I feel better
All three have built in sequencers but the Mavis doesn’t. Also I’d say it’s closest to the Mother 32 because the SubH & DFAM are very much out on their own in respect to their functions. DFAM is primarily a percussion synth and SubH is kinda hard to describe coz it’s pretty ‘out there’ 🤣
@@chitlun thank you for explaining major difference. Is my assumption correct that in case I use two M32’s I can create also the sounds that Mavis can? Like using an LFO to dual moderate?
Hi Omri, really love your videos. Working through your basics videos and learning heaps. Can you please tell me what midi controller you're using in your Jam, or reccomend a really good starter controller to use with VCV. I want to wiggle those knobs ! Thanks...
Hey, thanks so much! I'm using the Midilar controller but I used the Korg nano for quite some times and it was quite ok. It's not perfect, but quite nice.
I think pretty much any midi controller will work. I'm a VCV novice, and managed to get a crappy old Behringer BCD3000 DJ controller mapped to useful functions of a patch. Worked just fine. Something like the Akai MidiMix might be a good option? 24 Knobs, plus some faders & buttons.
@@serggerasimov5993 Might be best to get the Arturia emulation or something similar. Can't imagine a VCV version would be easy enough to use to make it an instrument that inspires creativity.
@@KYNG000 im confused.. if you watch the video he says the names of all modules used. Are you by any chance hearing disabled and need a written list because of that?
@@OmriCohen-Music Great!. Finally I did a test with 3 operators (boog audio have 1 op modules that are quite taylored for this) and a 3x3 matrix. Hell of fun but I didnt do the whole thing. Probably you could nail it ;)
the beauty of not spending ANY money, and recreating a similar satisfaction with this configurations, this "bootlegs". You're doing god's work!

This is so cool i have been playing with it for a while.
Your videos are always inspiring thankyou 🙏
Thanks so much!
I always wanted a video on decoding instruments and plug-ins in VCV. Thanks
Cheers!
omg this is what i exactly needed!!!

well I got the Mavis and the VCO sounds really good tbh no cap
Thank you very much.

Your content and knowledge are hige. Thanks for sharing your work. Would love to see this on the erica synths techno system..

Love the jam at the end. What is the external controller you are using there?
Thanks! I use the Midilar controller
How do you play the notes? I am using a windows 11 laptop.
Sweet Hallelujah !
Thank you.
Cheers!
Hi Omri, looking forward to this. Am very curious about the most important difference of the Mavis compared to the DFAM, M32 and Subharmonicon.

btw I love using SH and M32 together. Amazing what these two can do without fx, midi, daw, or any human interaction in my video Bach’ish two

Is there a way to create a custom faceplate for this rack? i think that would be amazing.
As Steve said, not yet, but... :)
quick question, what are you using to name the sections? I cannot find this seperator anywhere.
That's the 202 module from Submarine - library.vcvrack.com/SubmarineFree/TD-202
ah, thank you... found it now.
Very nice! Thanks for making this easy (as always!) :D
Glad you like it!
I'm going to explore this. Thank you for the tutorial. What controller is this between the keys and the screen?
Have fun! I'm using the Midilar controller

@@OmriCohen-Music Thanks for the advice. I will start with the Korg and save my pennies for something like the midilar later..

Why was CVMIX added?
There's a mixer on Mavis so I used the CVMIX
Thanks.

Cool use of VCV to dissect and understand the architecture of a synth. Hmm.... how about we do a VCV rendition of the almighty Junos? :D
Oh, and at 9:22 you've got a pretty credible bassoon sound going :D
They're on the list :) Cheers!
Suuuuper cool, thanks for sharing.... one day, can you patch a beat like the Behringer 2600 too, that would be awesome ;-)
It's on the list :)

What are the specs in your VCV modules for this Version of VCV Mavis Rack ??
I'm not so sure I understand... What do you mean by specs in VCV?

Hi Omri. It's just me or this is quite similar to behringer crave?
Hi, I guess that the Crave is a take on the Mother 32
Korg ms 20 next plz
Brainstorming: Would be great if you do an episode building the Humble Audio Quad Operator in VCV Rack.
I will have a look!
