Yes, because the sound effects cant play if all channels are used so it has to remove one channel playing sound and then play the sound

it also happens when you use the tanooki leaf, because it only has a few channels to work with, and so it removes the one that's the least noticeable (square 2) and plays the sound effect there
if you spam the tanooki leaf you can hear it
I think it adds more of a theater vibe to it, even though it's just hardware limitation from back then lol
