    Excellent review. I own a 2008 version with only 12000 miles, this video has boosted my confidence in keeping my bike and using it for for many adventures!!

      +paul kent Yes keep it please. I only passed it on as I could not take it to Austria, otherwise I would have kept it.

    Hi Phil Martin, thank you for your comment. I tried to reply to it but there seems to be a technical problem. Thank you for your feedback. PS: Doing what you did is an experience I chickened out of, so respect to you!

    Hello! Just bought myself a brand new XT660R. Thanks for this great review! Where did you get your bash plate?

    • @EnduroAlexis
      @EnduroAlexis  8 років тому

      Hi, you will enjoy it. It was from Touratech. If you get that one then put extra rubber round the pipe on the front right side, as otherwise the bash plate will rub into it.

    Hola, yo tengo ese motor en mi xtz660 y con más de 80.000km no tuvo ninguna avería y funciona perfectamente, como el primer día. Saludos!!!

    I saw the aprilia logo on the engine. As I know the multistrada also equipped with this minarelli engine. Was the powersource changed?

    You make great videos man! why dont your new videos get as many views as the old ones you think?

      Hi Quinten, thank you for your feedback. Am not sure, but advertising and promoting videos is a skill in itself. Never found a partner with whom I could share the work, I produce, he promotes. Maybe in the future.

    Good video Alexis ...... I have an Aprilia Pegaso Strada which shares the XT engine but seems Aprilia have squeezed a little more power out of it so a little less stress on the motorway but not quite as off-road orientated as the xt.

    • @EnduroAlexis
      @EnduroAlexis  8 років тому

      +nc30guy You know, a friend of mine hired one and he did not have the lower power which I did. His was a post 2006 model so maybe even if the bhp was the same, just different exhaust values and system may have made the difference, not sure

    • @johnlives6903
      @johnlives6903 8 років тому +1

      I have a 660R and the first thing I noticed was the huge sprocket at the back (40+ teeth), I've been told that if its replaced with a smaller one the bike will get better top-end but lower torque... I ride the highways just as much as the offroad but I'll never sacrifice my XT's sacred torque...

    • @EnduroAlexis
      @EnduroAlexis  8 років тому

      To be honest I never understood it, a friend rented one with me and that one had a bit more power.....but this may have had to do with the change of the emissions in the 2007 model, mine was still 2006 and so a bit less powerful. Actually the difference was so much that I wondered if mine had been restricted but the dealer mechanic assured me this was not the case.

    • @johnlives6903
      @johnlives6903 8 років тому

      Could be... I haven't ridden a newer one to see. Mine is a 2004 model, but has all the power i need... I just recently did a 3 day trip in the dunes and the quads were having a hard time keeping up.

    • @EnduroAlexis
      @EnduroAlexis  8 років тому +1

      Then it is quite possible that there was something wrong with mine, never mind, I still enjoyed and miss it.....

    Not sure whether I heard you correctly @4.02, going back to Austria & needing to change the headlight(?) to ride on the other side of the road? (LOL)

    • @EnduroAlexis
      @EnduroAlexis  Рік тому +1

      Yes, I was misinformed at the time that I would have to buy a new headlight. I later found out that changes could be made so that oncoming traffic is not affected as the headlight illuminates the side of the road as well.

      Hi, I have never ridden an XTX but from my experiences the XTZ 660 Tenere is better on motorways and above 65mph, more stable.

  • @blendesstin
    @blendesstin 8 років тому

    Hello Alexis,
    I'm considering the XT660R for a trip from Malaysia to France, i'm also considering the V-strom as it is cheap to pick up second hand with good mileage. Which one would you recommend for such a long trip?

    • @EnduroAlexis
      @EnduroAlexis  8 років тому +1

      +blendesstin Unfortunately/Fortunately the V-Strom as it has six gears, has tubeless tyres which are easier to fix and will still carry you to the next workshop (I once picked up a nail and the air came out only two weeks later!!!). It also has a larger fuel range and two headlights should one go. The light are easier to change on the V-Strom.But it also depends on how much off-road you want to do, for which the V-Strom is capable to some extent but the XT is better as it also has higher ground clearance.Getting to the air filter is easier on the XT as on the V-Strom it is located under the tank which has to be removed. Should your motorcycle break down along the way then there is a possibility that the XT will be easier to fix as it is more basic, however I must say that comfort on the A-roads and motorways is vital on such a long trip. For corrugated roads or rough surfaces the XT suspension will also be better.The V-Strom also offers a smoother ride except in the case of a sudden pothole, the wrong choice of tyres can almost send you flying. I therefore recommend Avon Distanzias or Metzler Tourance. The XT has more vibrations which will make it seem more "agricultural" than the V-Strom by comparison. We all have different priorities and prefer a variety of surfaces, but despite the Yamahas better suspension and off-road capability having a tubeless tyre motorcycle with six gears and appropriate to my height as in the case of the V-Strom would be more preferable to me.T

      Hi, I also experienced the speed wobble many times. Yes, tough they are indeed. Hope you are ok.....

    • @malcolmnuttall3165
      @malcolmnuttall3165 5 років тому

      The speed wobble is from underinflating the 21inch front tire.

    I believe the XT660Z tenere is very similar but with better suspension & better gearing for highway. Might have been a better option for you.

    • @EnduroAlexis
      @EnduroAlexis  8 років тому

      Yes, for the motorway the Tenere is the better motorcycle, I agree with you.
