I dealt poker for a long time so handling the cards came naturally and ive always wanted to learn magic… ive learned so many controls and ways of putting cards where you want them in the deck trying to make it look natural and thats what really takes the practice… However the hard part is you can practice the moves a thousand times but “performing” is what really sales the “tricks” I dont have any books yet but ive started one hell of a card collection… everything ive learned is technique and ive came up with my own routines with all the controls Happy Practicing 👊🏼😎
I'm in the process of reading my way through Card College. Although I'm familiar with the content in lots of cases but it's great to read methods in a structured way. Like you say it's possible to learn new things that you've overlooked in the past.
I respectfully differ slightly from Dai Vernon's quote, even though I understand 100% what he means by it, and tend to agree with it: there must be (ought to be) a balance between effect and method; I don't think the effect it's more important than the other, for the following reason: if the effect was everything, then, Harry Potter, cinematography, and Hollywood could be considered the best magicians that ever existed, since the effects they create, despite using technological methods (since methods are secondary if we apply Dai Vernon's quote), are capable of creating something that no magician could recreate in 1,000 years of practice. It sounds silly, but if you think about it, the effect can't be the most important thing; there's something extra there, in the whole subject or matter of which one is greater, that doesn't make it clear cut as Mr. Vernon points out; otherwise, magicians wouldn't have a passion to pursue, since by method, they've been defeated years ago. There's no magic effect that can't be recreated with technology, and even greater visual stuff. Sorry for bringing this up but someone had to do it one day! Lol
What I really like about your channel. 1. The fact that you give credit and sources. So many people get a UA-cam magic channel and don’t think to credit moves or plots properly. We all stand on the shoulders of giants. 2. Not too knuckle busting but BIG on effect. 3 You. Your style is very engaging. Little bit of self deprecating humor plus your in depth knowledge. I can tell you are a definite book reader. You should send a copy of your book to Jeff Kolwack who does the Erudite Magic UA-cam channel.
i dont have any magic book because i dont have money (im fifteen years old) but i promise myself im going to get a better english (i speak french ) and get a book nto make myself a better magician
Great advice and love that routine. If you really want to trim the fat, then there is no need to take 10 cards from the pack, you can just do the spelling from the top of the 'shuffled' pack. If you have the use 'Bazinga' as the demonstration, you can even replace all the cards on the deck and hand to them to spell 'Kapow'. If the choose 'Bazinga' then I wouldn't replace, but just get them to spell kapow from the small packet. Hope that makes sense? Like I said, lovely routine.
Sean, I've been trying to connect with you, but can't find your email anywhere lol where could I email you to zoom one of these days? I love mentalism and magic.
Awesome video and awesome books Sean! I only have one book, and that is your book, 'Devinations.' That is a great must read for anyone, beginner or advanced! I always read that book and I am always coming up with the new effects using the stuff in that book. So thank you for the book! I have a question, is there anyway to get Devinations as a ebook? I always want to have your book at college but I don't want anyone stealing the book from me. This way I can still have the book but it is just on my phone and computer. For some the other books you mentioned I will have to look the internet for some free pdfs. I love the trick and can't wait to perform it at home and at college! Loved the video! #Roadto5K!
Great ideas in this video. I own most of the books you mentioned-- and as a Hobbyist who picked up magic/card sleights just 14 months ago as a way to help me cope with an extremely difficult period in my life, I 100% will be a serious student of card magic for the rest of my life--I'm 48yo now. But although I feel I have come a long way in just over a year-- starting off my first few mos focusing on 10 or so different forces. and moving on to sleights such as DL, EC, Classic Pass, etc etc-- I really need to, as you say, go back to card college!! I think combing through these books would really up my game. This magic journey I have been on is simply fascinating to me. Thanks!!!!
Sean, some awesome books, and good points. The trick you did is great to. My thoughts you could reverse the order of the stack, and deal 3 piles of 10 cards each, then use magician's choice. This for me along with the shuffling of the deck, gives in the spectator mind more choices. 😊👍😊👍😊😊👍
Love ur advice!! I always trim away the unnecessary moves whenever possible !!! Streamlined crisp elegant magic for the modern audience!!! Gary in dreamland floating on a cloud island. Have a nice dream!!🙂☁️☁️☁️⛅💫❤

Buzz Words is fantastic!
Thanks Jorge!! Always appreciate you stopping by!
I created a trick with cards, that's sort of a carnival game, magic trick & con game, all in 1.
Sweet!!
