I just love Dixie Dregs.
Morse is one of those greats IMO when you hear his name you think of his very distinct sound and skilled playing.
This still holds its own 46 yrs later. Only the keys sound dated to me.
Keys sound vintage = good = 70’s Jan Hammer etc = wish I heard these sounds more often today rather than the modern glossy sparkle-Casio tones that so many keyboard patches have become.
@@4bettercheddar Jan Hammer always sounded much more timeless from the 70s era as he always ran his moog/synth leads through guitar amps and he also had a more beckian approach to bending and his programming chops was always spot on on mini moogs and oberheims. He invented that guitaristic lead soloing approach for synths in the seventies, from where Keith Emerson left so to say. This is a bit static sounding in comparison in my opinion.
There have been very few days over the past 40+ years when I haven’t listened to Pride O The Farm.
I've never seen a fiddle player shred till I saw this!
Check out early Kansas shows. They didn't have a lot of songs then, so there were long interludes where Robbie Steinhardt shreded his violin off.
I stood 10 feet away from the stage for 3 hours during the Bring em back alive tour in 92. We'll worth it.
My brother lived across the street from britt in jville or and jean luc ponte played than kame into the club where he was playingbthat nite. The whole band........... ...asked if they could play

There is so much to study with this band that colleges should offer a Doctorate in the Dixie Dregs
If I'm not mistaken, I believe several of them held Doctorates.
Yes, most of them met at Florida State University. Jaco Pastorious, also an FSU student, played with them off and on.
and when they played in 2018, same guys... Perfection is hard to replace...and they were on Capricorn Records from Macon, Ga...

Pretty sure the cameramen were getting the shots. The problem here is in editing the footage afterwards. Obviously done by someone with no clue about the music or who is playing what. Very irritating.
Fiddle guy looks like the bass player forGentle Giant
Good jazz-rock band. Came along when the novelty of jazz-rock was at its peak. Then came the 80s and digital cleanliness. This band was a very good second-tier jazz rock group.
Nice product of of the University of Miami and far more lively and free then what Fusion would become sadly long gone now. Was fun working in Promo Sound Lighting back with them
Insulting to say "second tier" when Morse's music is so ridiculously original. More like first in a field of one.
Second wave maybe, but not second tier. Their level of playing was up there with the best if you ever saw them live.

Was about to comment that. He turned up midway and then drowned out Steve during his solo. A shame.

You do have a point though. It was Steve’s band.
It's was a band with a different sound , Jean -Luc is an awesome musician.
Take away the out of tune, too loud violin, and maybe I’ll listen. Steve Morse deserved better.
Lifelong Dregs fan here, going to see them on Sunday night on this reunion tour. Probably seen 25 shows over the years, with each variation of the band.
Watching this video today, I was reminded that Steve Morse, superstar that he is, was not the star of the show in the Dregs, especially in the beginning.
Steve Morse himself has emphasized this in his interviews, How special this group of players were, and how happy he was to play with them.
For me, Allen Sloane (violin) and Mark Parrish (keyboards) crushed this song and reminded that the Dregs were an amazing combo of players, each one deserving their moment in the spotlight, and demonstrating incredible group energy and dynamics.
At this point in time, Jerry Goodman (violin) and Jan Hammer (keyboards) in Mahavishnu Orchestra had shown that even extraordinary guitar players (John McLaughlin) could be matched with these instruments.
Just a reminder, this is not Deep Purple or Kansas. The "out of tune" violin and Steve Morse's guitar seamless and profound interaction is the signature of the Dixie Dregs. I wonder if Steve Morse thinks he "deserved better"? He is currently on a reunion tour with the band.
There is no continuity in this song and it totally sucks.
