  • I feel fully charged for this review, its 1 year of ownership in my Renault Zoe and i thought it was time to review my own car rather than all the others.
    Granny Cable amzn.to/2BKoPrG
    So today i give you 5 pro's and cons of the Renault Zoe and of course i will mention the CUP HOLDER. I also touch a little on the pro and con of the battery lease and many other points is this a better buy than the Nissan leaf? I personally think so. This review applies to the new 2018 Renault Zoe ZE40 and previous 22 kwh models. I don't go into the different motors like the r110 but as i have a different video explaining the difference in motors and fully suggest you check that out. This is an honest review on the Renault Zoe and i hope you enjoy it as much as I've enjoyed owning it.

    Spot on as always. A couple of years ago I would never have thought of owning a french car. Now my Zoe is my only car and I love it. It has a couple of minor defects that would never have left a Japanese production line but credit where it's due - I looked online at all the options, and even with my opulent choice of full leather, upgraded stereo and battery-owned, any other BEV with a similar range was massively more expensive, and looked worse.

      It’s the best french car by miles I said to my self is never buy a French car again and now am in love with the Zoe it’s by far one of the best cars I’ve owned for being reliable and I enjoy driving it, it’s not the best driving car I’ve had but in its class it is and for being smooth it’s as smooth as a rolls Royce I’ve driven

    Great honest video. The range of the ZE40 (and low price after discount) were the clinchers for me. I get 190 miles range at this time of year and this means I am a stranger to public charging (though I notice more 22 kw posts about now and these are often free which is a great benefit for a Zoe if not other EVs - they add about 100 miles range per hour but it isn't worth staying connected past 80% because the charge rate slows so much). I didn't realise the rear seats were removable.

    Hi Nick, great review, I have a 40kw Zoe.
    It's a completely intangible point but I love the personality of the car.
    Sure, it's a Renault and with that comes odd cup holders but its a joy to drive.
    Sure, its a Renault and beeps at me every time I go to get out of the car 'cos I haven't removed the keys from the slot but it locks automatically as I walk away.
    Sure, it's a Renault and doesn't have CCS but it has the best AC charging of any EV out there and there are a lot more AC chargers than CCS where I live.
    Sure, it's a Renault and the RLink interface looks terrible by todays standards but the audio sound is good.
    Sure, it's a Renault and the rear wiper has a funny on/off action but it still works!
    Sure, it's a Renault and the glove box can hold one small pen but the headroom is great for a tall chap like me
    Sure, it's a Renault and the rear leg room is poor but the seats are soft & comfortable
    Sure, it's a Renault and there are no mud flaps but the blue colour scrubs up very well
    Sure, it's a Renault and the cabin heating system is terrible but it does get warm eventually
    Sure it's a Renault but it can beat a Golf GTI over the first 50 yards.
    Sure it's a Renault and the range estimator is quirky but I have done 280km on a full charge.
    Sure it's a Renault and the RLINK update process requires a degree in Computer Science but hey, it just updated by itself over the air!!
    Sure it's a Renault and the most fun since my Renault 4 in 1980.
    Gotta love it.

      pssst don't put key in slot keep it in your pocket :-p its keyless take advantage, other reason it might self lock is if battery is LOW on key (video on how to change battery in my library)
      She's got some issues but i got a review coming soon on an EV that cost £15000 more than a battery owned zoe and it really has made me realise how good the zoe is

    Hi, thanks for the informative videos. I am now the proud owner of a Zoe, 5th day now. I would broadly agree with you comments, especially that it is difficult to find fault with a Zoe. I would add one though, the Z.E. voice, as Renault call it. I have heard people comment about how noisy the Zoe is because they think it is the motor making that noise. Renault missed a trick by not making a burbling V8 one of the optional noises. Surely a no brainer! If that is inappropriate, then some musical noise that is clearly not the Zoe's mechanicals.
    I agree that the Zoe is stunning. I have not had this warm feeling gazing at my car since my Alfa GTV in the 80's. If I am parked up, I can pretty much guarantee I am in the prettiest car there unless a 1954 Giullietta sprint or some such pulls up. Mine is black and is GORGEOUS!!!

    Hi Nicolas , I am considering to buy Zoe 2020 model. Available with battery lease. The only thing I am doubtful is that when we sell it after 3 years to basically total depreciation would be 3-4K plus all the rent of the battery which I paid. Around 6k Euros. In this case is it better to buy the battery ?just to mention my running won’t be more than 7-8k per year. It’s basically for my wife

  • @samuelholmes3696

    Interesting video Nicholas! Your list of cons weren't all cons for me, but you're welcome to share your own opinions! I do agree that battery lease can be a con. My first Zoe was a lease, but my current used Zoe is a Zoe i, as is my wife's. I also agree that granny cable should be included, but I did read somewhere that Renault don't like people using the granny cable as it's inefficient. I've got a Zoe cable because my Zoe was delayed coming from the factory so Renault gave me one for free.
    I personally love my Zoe, an attitude that hasn't made me very popular on some EV forums!

    • @NicolasRaimo
      @NicolasRaimo  5 років тому

      What are your cons that you find? Which EV forums may this be? I find my little Renault Zoe is amazing when compared to other EVs you need to compare prices and for what Zoe cost it’s amazing build quality if you compare it to an I3 that’s 3 times the cost I can’t see 3 times the value

    • @iainmackie7064
      @iainmackie7064 5 років тому

      We have a Mk1 Zoe, with a battery lease. We were looking at upgrading to a Mk2 Zoe primarily to increase the 80 mile range to 150-180 miles. When comparing the cost of a Zoe with battery lease against an iZoe, it was, surprisingly, 8 years before the iZoe became cheaper. 8 years! Who owns a car for 8 years? Due a lot to the big discounts Renault give on battery lease vehicles. And of course should there ever be a problem with the battery, it’s leased.
      Actually we decided to keep the Mk1 as the 80-100 mile range works for a second car.

    Hi. Good videos. I've watched all your battery lease videos and read the comments. My questions has not been asked. If I were to buy a second hand Zoe with a battery close to the 8-year warranty and when its 8.5 years old the battery fails, what does Renault offer?

    • @NicolasRaimo
      @NicolasRaimo  4 роки тому +1

      If you brought a battery lease zoe then the battery warranty is as long as the battery lease is being paid so you’d get a repair or replacement. If it’s battery owned it’s 8 years and in which case nothing

    Thanks for your ownership review. I'm with you on the lease option it has been really significate in lowering the entry point for EV ownership. Originally I guess because people mistrusted the longevity of EV batteries, but now it makes sense because you are only buying half the car and leasing the other half. therefore you depreciation is only on the portion of the car you own. I'm sure if you owned the battery outright from new for 3 years the total value of the car would depreciate by more than the £1,800 (36 at £50/month) you'd pay for the battery lease for the average EV driver.
    There is a "Con" which I've never heard a review mention and when I've mentioned this to Renault Dealers they seem to be completely unaware of. In the boot, there's no trim on the threshold of the boot and over into the boot, but there are cut out stamped into the bare metal of the body shell. Therefore small items in the boot could disappear from the boot and be lost into the bowels of the body shell. Why didn't Renault put any trim here or at the very least extend the boot carpet a 100 mm or so up at this edge.
    Finally, did you have a slip of the tongue and say you'd reviewed the Jaguar i8? There is an iPace from Jaguar and an i8 from BMW which did you mean to say?

    • @NicolasRaimo
      @NicolasRaimo  5 років тому

      Hey Barry thanks for watching my video please consider clicking the subscribe button i make EV videos every week.
      Regarding the boot bit you mentioned i know what you mean however i didn't mention it as its not uncommon for cars in this class to have the same thing, i currently have 3 cars in stock from 3 different brands all with same issue so it seemed unfair to mention something no unique to zoe however i agree its a silly bit of design.
      Yes very much a slip of the tong issue with recording all my videos NON scripted.

    Zoe having rear drums instead of discs. Rear discs wear out very quickly on all cars because the brake bias is towards the front. That means rear discs on an EV that uses regen for braking will rust up very quickly. You could need new rear discs on some EVs every 3 years or every MOT if you're unlucky!

    I need help to understand how the charging works! So these EV cars does any universal charge work? Like what im trying to say is you know how Apple has their own charging thing and samsung has a different one too is it the same with cars?

    • @NicolasRaimo
      @NicolasRaimo  5 років тому

      There are standards however there has been 2 standards but NOW all new cars in the EU have to have TYPE2 plugs
      Type1 cars like Nissan Leaf also had chademo fast charging these 2 standards tend to be on same car
      Then we have type 2 which for fast charging uses same plug but with 2 large pins and that plug is called CCS
      If you drive anywhere you can always charge as rapids have all standards needed and public chargers you use a supplier cable that came with your car

  • @DopeyDalek
    @DopeyDalek 6 років тому

    Am I right in thinking that early model Zoe can't rapid charge? This is why Renault introduced the Q90? I would have thought that would be a negative point I was also curious that if I sold a leased battery Zoe privately, it sounds like I would be liable for the lease payment until the new owner took on the lease. What would happen if they didn't?

    • @NicolasRaimo
      @NicolasRaimo  6 років тому

      All early Zoe's could rapid charge, the Q engine been around for a long time, they in fact brought in the "R" motor later which is more efficient on charging and driving but can't charge over 22 kwh If your not subscribed yet then make sure you do and check out the older video about the motors. When you sell the Zoe privately there is a transfer form normally done START till FINISH in 3 hours but if the proposal form for the lease is pre filled then transfer takes an hour.

    Of all the cons, the mediocre back seat was the hardest for me to swollow - I drive a Scenic II and are really spoiled with the awesome modularity and spacious cabin and boot. - Will I be able to easilly put my mountainbike in a Zoe? Do I have to just ditch the rear seat alltogether? Besides that, I totally fell in love with the Zoe, test-driving it. As you say, it drives really well and I liked the seating position, that was similar to my Scenic. (Finally, I am one of those few people who thinks the Leaf gen 1 is so much better looking than the rather generic, boring could-be-any-Nissan gen 2...)

    I have just got a Zoe with battery lease. Yes I worry that it's a financial commitment that I could have avoided by buying the battery - but then if I had gone down the purchase route I would be worrying about battery deterioration. As my wife drives the car as much as me I would want to have the AA recovery anyway and frankly a perpetual warranty is not a problem.

    I've just been out for a test drive of the Zoe with my wife and daughter. They sat in the back, with me and the salesman in the front. I really enjoyed the drive and the acceleration was spot on for this class of car. The steering was nicely weighted and the overall opinion was positive. After the drive, I was all smiles, but my wife and daughter both hated it. They said it was really crashy and bumpy in the back. They said it was much worse than our old smart forfour, which is bumpy. My daughter also said that she felt more car sick than our old banger. I was very surprised and my wife said no way will she want this car. She also said everything felt cheap as well. I have to say I was disappointed with her opinion of the Zoe. In the front, however, I thought it felt quite punchy and was definitely quieter than my old forfour.
    Am I alone with this impression of this car. Watching this video prompted me to go for a test drive and I really enjoyed it, but I have to give the leaf and soul a drive to compare.

    • @NicolasRaimo
      @NicolasRaimo  6 років тому

      I’ve been in back of zoe never had issues but if you were doing what most New EV drives do when first driving which is belting your foot down like it was an ICE car then they might of felt little car sick due to speed off line but this is easily stopped by getting used to car and driving it slower off the line, regen also takes a bit to get used to maybe have wife drive it and daughter in front

    Hi Nick, a couple of cons to consider: 1. Dealership expertise and support, Renault are still struggling to have expertise at the dealer in both sales and service. In my case it took 3 visits to get a SOH on the battery. The restriction to only depend on the Renault dealer given this handicap, makes this issue a problem. 2. Glass quality, the upper edge of the windows scratch easily with dirt, the front windscreen could have benefited from heated elements like the Twizy for defogging. 3. You can’t have the vent work both the windshield and the front vents at the same time - a bug confirmed at the dealership. Even though the vent controls shows that you can, it only puts it on the windshield vent mode. A couple of pros to consider: 1. The potential for a 22KWh to 40KWh battery upgrade brings a new lease to the older vehicles, being tested in Europe right now. Why upgrade the car, when you can just add more range in a battery upgrade. 2. ECO mode feature is well designed, having averaged 92% over 5K Miles all the while enjoying and not compromising much on driving style and speed - only compromise is 60mph vs. higher speeds on the motorway with a conventional vehicle. The savings in costs and additional range makes it a good feedback loop feature. 3. The Tyres on a 16” rim, reducing rolling resistance by over 10% of energy usage over the 17” variant is a definite plus. Being super light, these Zoe purposed designed tyres by Michelin are amazing in grip, all weather (inc. snow) and stretches out the range even further. As you mentioned, the design, tight steering and low centre of gravity makes this car nippy and balanced for an in town car. The rapid charging option is a MUST considering this vehicle.

    • @NicolasRaimo

      Lots of EV dealerships suffer from poor training, apart from TESLA of course, you have to remember this is a culture shock to many long term people in the motor trade, of both sales and support. This will see many either retrain or resist change. personally not noticed any issues with glass in fact i'd say its strong a had a lime stone wack me hard and never even chipped. Not noticed that? you got your rlink updated to newest version as this changes stuff with heating believe it or not. The EV tyres great in snow i can't believe how good the grip was! How long have you have your Zoe now?

    • @christianbehier2221
      @christianbehier2221 6 років тому +1

      Nicolas Raimo - I got my Zoe last year, and having driven many sports cars in the past, on road and track, the Zoe is actually surprisingly an amazing bargain if purchase post-lease with low milage. The dealerships need to sort themselves out, there is no excuse given the availability of training and hands-on product. I won’t be looking at petrol based vehicles again as Electric performance is now proven to be better than the combustion engine in so many departments. As for the glass, in comparison to BMW, the hardness is just not there. Maybe they need to look at Aluminium glass. It isn’t the impact resistance, but the scratch resistance is the issue. The Twizy has a nice defogger, not sure why they did not use it in the Zoe. Owning both I get to see both, having owned the Twizy for 3 years now.

    Hi Nick, I agree with the most of your pros and cons about the ZOE. I own a Q-Model wich can charge with 43 kW on three phase. In Germany most households have 3 phase current available, in most cases with 16 A wich is 11 kW to charge with (in my case it's only a granny cable because I live in a flat in the city ;).
    For me, leasing the battery is a big pro because for longer trips at the weekend I often rent a fossil car (my wife has not as much patience like me ;) and while not driving 700 km with the ZOE I save more than 75% of the money for renting the fossil while driving more than 7500 km :).

    I think Tesla’s have always been up to 11kW on 3 phase, they used to be able to upgrade to a dual charger to enable 22kW, which was dropped, and then they offered a high power charger upgrade to 16.5kW, which is now standard.

    Hi Nick, nice review.
    For me the only con that bothers me is non split fold rear seat and don't really understand why they didn't make it 50/50 or 60/40 can it really be down to cost? Having said that, the Zoe is my wife's car and I can't remember her ever folding a rear seat in any previous car. The other cons don't bother me at all, for me cup holders are not an issue, I hadn't really noticed the noise when charging, battery leasing makes the Zoe affordable to the masses and gives peace of mind. Also if you can afford it, you have the option of the i version with no battery lease. Overall I think it is great car for the money and good looking too.
    I am seriously considering a 40Kw R110 i as I do longer journeys and don't want to be restricted when it comes to annual mileage.

    My Renault ZOE just showed 'ELECTRIC FAILURE DANGER' sign on my dash board as I got in and tried to start the car. The start button didn't respond, the steering wheel got locked and there was a sound (plane sound) from under the bonnet. I called RAC and they couldn't find any fault. They managed to unlock the steering and the warning signs were still there. When I called Renault dealer as suggested by RAC their earliest app was after a week. Is this something to worry about?

    Hi, thanks for the review, really informative, I’m thinking about buying a Zoe, only problem is my garage is about 10 meters from the house and there’s no electric, so I was thinking it would be ok to charge with a heavy duty extension lead connected to a granny cable?! Also does the car lock the cable whilst charging? Thanks

    • @NicolasRaimo
      @NicolasRaimo  5 років тому

      +Rafael Costa you could do that and yes the cables locked but it might be better thinking of a more long term solution which would be if you own all the land between the garage and the house dig a trench lay a pipe down to feed a large cable threw and put a electric warning tape above it and then have some armoured cable pulled threw, that way in the future when you get a bigger or even 2 EVs you can charge faster

    • @rafaelcosta8777

      Nicolas Raimo Thanks mate, it’s a shared land with the next door neighbours 😔 and the front of the house is street parking only, bit of a pain, but I think I might still do it, buy an orange extension cable so people can see it and hope that the neighbours don’t complain 😂 thanks for all the videos, really good.

      If you can get permission off the neighbours to dig up and lay a trunking that would be great have a word with them, offer to lay some trunking near there drive at the same time to future proof them at the same time, the trunking won't cost more than a couple of pounds its the cabling and the labour of digging that cost. I'm torn between a new Zoe and a new BMW i3 (not the S) on a 2-3 year business lease. The Zoe is cheaper and has a longer range but I think the BMW charges much faster. So when I do longer journeys (200 plus miles) Hampshire to Lancashire, I would need to stop once or twice anyway. The BMW looks very cool too and with Apple car play works with my iPhone, unlike the Zoe. What would you do in my position?

    • @NicolasRaimo
      @NicolasRaimo  5 років тому

      Stay tuned video on the i3 coming VERY shortly! However NEW zoes can only be purchased currently with 22kw charge speeds unless you get a 2nd Q motor. So yes currently BMW NEW wins on charge speed however depending how SOON your wanting a new car there's hopefully a new zoe this year with CCS. Car for car i prefer the zoe but if you need to save 20 minutes of waiting at a charger then BMW would win, however with the range of zoe you need to work out how likely you'd ever need to charge and how much extra charge you might need you might find you only need 10 minutes at 22kw to cover your trip in which case its not a big deal

It also isn't a particularly unpleasant noise. However, one bizarre effect of the Zoe charger is that you can sometimes hear the noise reproduced on domestic appliances! Just minor annoyances with my Zoe. The standard Michelin tyres pick up stones from the road more effectively than any other types of tyre I have known. The speed limiter increments by 1 mph per press on the setting button - why? All speed limits I have come across bar one are multiples of 10 mph. Even holding the button down does not increment through the speed settings - most irritating. The fuse has to be removed to reboot the R-link system when it freezes. This is fine on a LHD Zoe, but on RHD, half the fuse board is obscured by the panel next to the glove box. Lastly, the charging port fills with snow unless covered... Otherwise, it is one of the best cars I have owned.

      Welcome to my channel don't forget to click subscribe, not personally noticed tyres pick up stones to be honest, however now you mention the cruise control thing i see your point it should increase by 1 but then groups of 5mph on hold a press. I personally not had my port fill with too much snow there's a bit there which i just wack out the way and its fine, try driving something with a SIDE port there more annoying specially when you go to a rapid.

It would be incredible if we could keep up with the latest technology without having to buy a new car every time Renault brings out a new, improved battery. I vaguely remember reading on some forums that Renault are trying to build the new batteries in a way that makes them compatible with older cars. However, when I was the RRG in Enfield this week, I enquired about it, and they said that you do have to get a new car if you want a bigger battery. Very disappointed...

    I have just bought a 66 plate Zoe that I will collect on Saturday, I was dead against battery lease at first but on deep thinking and what nick has mentioned on videos is, to own the battery the car would cost a lot more money making it unafordable to a lot of buyers, interest on finance would make the repayments higher and when you have finished all the payments you would want to trade it in for a new car, so yeah I have got a battery lease now and glad I have done so.

    Hi, Nicolas. I have an update on my Zoe that won't charge in one go. You suggested checking the 12 volt battery. The car has been into garages several times. This is what happens: the Zoe will charge for a couple of hours then stops charging. However, if I have a brief charge on the motorway on the way home then the car will charge for a long period at home. If I don't do this brief charge then charging cuts out at about 2 hours in, stops for about 8 hours then restarts of its own accord or if you open the doors. Readers, if charging cuts out during a charge when you have bought a Zoe, don't go past 30 days after delivery. REJECT. Mine is a defective car and Renault have done nothing but try to delay delay delay. I do not want anyone to have to deal with the daily problem that I have encountered and the obstruction of Renault UK's escalations team. Heed my advice and avoid the complete hassle that I have had and have to waste hours every week trying to deal with Renault UK and the dealer who sold me this defective car.

      Hi, Oliver. Here's more news. Renault UK have accepted I can reject the car.but are still dragging their feet. It will charge successfully if I charge for a little bit, drive for a bit, then charge again. I need to test whether it cuts out if I charge for a bit, stop charging without driving and then start charging again. It will charge successfully if it rests for many hours and will even restart charging if its own accord after about 8 hours automatic rest. It is as if the battery can't cope with a start of a charge.

    You know I am a Leaf fan Nick, BUT I did also nearly buy a ZOE. I am being honest therefore and NOT ZOE bashing. Ok. BUT aside from Battery lease , which I do think is a Con, you didn’t mention what were my 2 biggest Cons and why I went for Leaf in the end. My biggest Con was that it feels cramped and is less spacious generally than the Leaf, with a far smaller boot space. You mentioned the seat folding and you’re right that adds to problem. Leaf splits 40/60 so infact 2 kids can still sit st a push if need a lot luggage. But even just boot itself is quite small, not as bad as i3 granted. The other smaller drawback was the performance, having tried both, the torque and acceleration was just bit less than Leaf, although i3 was faster still than Leaf. For similar price I got more oooomph when hit acceleration in Leaf over ZOE. But it was close. The biggest PROs that I considered were the 22kW charging on Type2’s and great range of newest ZOE, and I liked the onboard computer more than the Leaf one.

    • @NicolasRaimo
      @NicolasRaimo  6 років тому

      No bashing there Sir plugseeker, My wife to be liked the fact Zoe was smaller than leaf, everyone buys to there needs, we have no kids or need for large car so Zoe is prefect size and her last car was a VW lupo so this was MUCH bigger. The seat split for me again isn't an issue yet, but am sure one day it will be. The leaf is a much quicker beast but compare it to ICE and all EV's are faster. Both great EV's just for me Zoe wins as a like a good looking body on my motor.

    Hi Nick, I sent you a private message last week but not sure if you got it or I didn't get a reply or you didn't want to reply. UA-cam messaging can be intermittent. Although I like driving the Zoe which was my mothers, I feel let down by the local dealer. I think I'll probably trade it in or sell it privately because the battery rent, even at £59 a month is too much for the small amount of driving I do in it due to the limited 65 mile in cold weather range. I have a Fiesta ST which is very different to drive but at least I can drive to work and back in all weathers without worrying about range. If I could get a decent trade in value on a new Zoe with the higher capacity battery, I may consider it.

      Battery lease on twizzy seems silly I do agree as it can only be used 6 months of the year really, and there is no option from new to buy without lease.
      1st gen Zoe’s are fine mine is a first gen what you got in early days was poorly installed charge points and a zoe which likes a good connection refusing to charge or pulling so much current the charger couldn’t cope, these issues have all but gone now as installs tend to be tested correctly however they do still sometimes happen and people try still blame the zoe but once the charge post is reported the charge install repairs the post and it works for zoe. Other issue with zoe is a lot of the messages on the dash are poor French translations giving more concern than is needed.

    It has some stupid flaws that any potential buyer should know about. And the biggest stupidity is that it could be fixed with firmware, but Renault just does not care.
    If you live in a warm climate (never below 7 degrees C) these complaints/issues do not apply to you.
    When it is cold, you can not control the traction battery heating. So if being on a journey when it is below -5C your maximum charging speed is 7kW even at 20% SoC. To get full charging speed the traction battery needs to be above +7C.
    The heating of the cabin can not be controlled during charging. A workaround exists, heating can be turned on thru the app. But the temperature will still be drop to about 10C if it is below -10C outside.
    The heating/cooling thru the app is limited to 10min, no matter what, but it can be repeated every 10min manually...
    So it is not sufficient in low temperatures as it will not heat up the cabin or the traction battery enough when it is below +5C in 10min.
    The supplied single-phase 230V cable is strict 10A only and has no adjustments neither in the charging cable nor in the car settings, it is always maximum charge speed and always to 100% SoC.

    Battery leasing does not work for low mileage use if you consider day to day running costs.
    Lets apply some simple maths for 3,000 miles a year
    Battery lease cost alone is £708 a year minimum.
    Add in recharging costs of £100/year makes the day to day running nearly 3 times that of an efficient diesel, which would only cost me £330 inc tax for those 3,000 miles (versus £808 for the Zoe)
    Lease cost needs to be less than £20 per month to make it the same monthly outlay as my diesel car.
    If lease cost remained at £59 a month, then the break even point is 10,200 miles.
    But lease cost increase with mileage making the situation even worse.
    For the Zoe, assuming the top rate of £110 a month, the break even mileage compared to my diesel car is a staggering 19,350 miles.
    Sorry in terms of day to day running costs it just doesn't make sense to go electric, and that is VERY depressing.

      That changes the £59/month 3,000 mile break even point to 9,645 miles (but it'll be higher than this) and the £110/month to 18,825 miles,

      I’ve never leased anything before until I leased the Zoe battery from RCI Renault. I must say having done it it’s really not as bad as people think. There are quite a few pros:
      1) It costs about 5k less when buying new (so you can lease for a looooong time before spending 5k)
      2) When you come to sell the car I found it helps as the sale price is cheaper and it completely eliminates any warranty/battery concerns.
      3) RCI Were excellent with me, we’re now renting our second Renault Zoe and they didn’t bother the charge us for our excess mileage.
      4) The warranty actually states a minimum of 75% battery performance where as many manufacturers(Tesla included) have no minimum performance spec.
      5) Even after the batter lease we’re still saving a fortune, about a weeks worth of petrol savings pays the battery lease for the month, about half a week worth of petrol savings pays the extra leccy, and we’re still over £100 per month better off!
      It’s really worth considering the battery rental.

How many Zoe's have had batteries so useless they've been replaced? I suspect few or none, therefore the lease argument is as valid as ppi fees were and just plays into the hands of companies who are against EV adoption.

      Depends which battery model and your use case. My wife ONLY drives locally wont drive further so for her its 100% of all her trips. For me covers about 95% of all trips, however the new ze40 would cover me for about 99% of all trips and the new zoe would cover me for all trips on 1 charge apart from going the EU which would need some charge stops. How do you spend more money charging?

    Battery lease may be OK on a new car but it doesn't work on second hand. You lease a new car but you "buy" second hand.When you buy with your own money that you have saved up, your not having another debt of battery lease. You would have to pay me to take a second hand Zoe with a leased battery. I can imagine its the sort of car that will be catching fire in the future or ending up in a river so people can get rid of them.

      You can buy a zoe “I” model 2nd if you choose not to have a lease model personally like many other i prefer it. It’s all down to self choice

    the 2019 zoe seats split. and its 60-40 not 20-20. 60/40 is the percentage of seat that folds, if for example was 50-50 would mean they would split right in the middle.
    Cup holders...every renault fails at it. Even my megane cant hold anything other than a can.
    High pitch noise, worth noting that most over 40's cant hear it cuz its around 11k hz.
    Lease is only a pro only if you do like 30k+ miles a year. All the other crap about warranty/etc are pointless. the owned comes with 8-year warranty, the zoe also has the option to extend the FULL CAR warranty for £289 a year up to 10 years, WARRANTY FOR THE WHOLE CAR, the lease is 79-119 a MONTH, YES MONTH and only warrants the battery. Kills any fuel savings when you pay AT LEAST 10p a mile if you drive less than 10k miles a year. (in other words, you'd be better off getting a clio).
    Regarding the breakdown nonsense, most insurers have that same breakdown/take you to the nearest charging point as standard, I'm paying about £250/yr with that included on LV, battery owned also have that by renault in the first 3 years.
    Lease saves you 6k on buying new (12.5k vs 18.5k) yet used, the single cheapest battery leased zoe40 is (2017) is £9000, owned ze40 (2017) is on the market for £16800, so on buying for 12.5k in 2017 and selling for 9000 after 2 years, you lose 3.5k PLUS £2k lease = total loss = £5500. On the owned, bought for £18500 in 2017 , sell for £16800, you lose less than £2k.
    Not to mention that all the cheaper leased battery zoes on the dealerships are sitting there gaining dust for weeks/months. The battery owned models (including this 16800 example) is likely sold the same day it gets posted on autotrader. I was shopping for used ZE40's around 16k-17k and everything i found would be sold within 1 hour, even if 3 years old, hence why i gone for 18.5k new one with battery owned.
