My friend who got me into Tekken when I was like 10y/o was murdered a few yeas ago. The case was never solved. We played together since Tekken 3 until TTT2 but we kept in touch. He was main Hwoarang, I'm main Xiaoyu. He was way better than me but I always got away with my Xiaoyu tricks. Man, this got me where it hurts.

Yeah well she did loose every setup ling nation created since sodams tech in Tekken 6 so she needs to be very threatening. Without her oki she’s not that powerful so they buffed her damage output and mixup potential but who’s to say she won’t get nerfed again. All her hypnotic transitions are in fact interruptible on block.

i think its the problem with hard execution character. You see Xiaoyu is very hard to learn, very time consuming, so many transition, movement etc and on paper, she should be the greatest thing. But why isnt she represented in tournament, why is a mashy Hworang able to beat her? You are better picking a barebone character like Claudio, Dragunov or Shaheen, extra simple execution but works well. Theres no point investing time in hard characters since the reward is not there
You can down jab all of the Hypnotist options after f2,1~b on block (other than maybe the parry?) Xiaoyu's only good option to beat down jab there is the launch ender after f2,1, which is unsafe.

Perhaps not from the source you've expected but: learn to use the 3D movement to the fullest, and with clean inputs. its vital. and standing block is the default guard unlike crouch in 2D due to mids hitting crouch. alot of moves and string enders also can be evaded by crouch or sidestep, ALOT. and learn your punishes and combo starters to stay on top.

I do not know whether you will agree with me or not, but Hwo feels like the 'oddball' in Tekken. Ever since his Tekken 3 days, I always felt like he is super different and does not have the tools that most of the more popular tournament characters have, and has very difficult execution. The DF, 3+4 is a welcome addition, as it gives him a very easy to execute move that many Tekken characters have. His matchups got worse, I agree, however, he has also become more of a well-rounded character than he has ever been. I use Hwo no longer as a pressure character, I use him as a bleed out character. I just use pokes and slowly annoy the opponent in order to win most matches. His pressure game in this game isn't as useful as it was in T7, because people can just Heat Burst (or whatever the hell it is called), to power crush their way through his pressure.

Usually, when a tekken character is heavily stance based, their stances usually have movement or attacks that flat out ignore established norms in tekken. Xiaoyu with her AOP stance goes under everything. The capos (eddy, christie, tiger) have relax stance and handstand. Zafina and her crazy stances. etc. But Hwoarang? His stances (both flamingo, and RFF) does jack. From what i understand, hwo's flamingo stance was SUPPOSED to give you superior evasion but thats been nerfed since Tekken 4(?). Now, in modern Tekken, any moves transitioning into flamingo stance is supposed to give you plus frames. But we all know that means nothing if your opponent is solid with their defensive movement. Heck, they can just disrespect hwoarang in certain situations if the opponent knows how hwo's moves work. In short, Hwoarang is a Stance character with no gimmicks and no tools to really make up for that.
Xiaoyu deserves the buffs thats what they get for ignoring her on CNT well hwo also deserve lower hitbox hits XD (atleast he has new 15frame ws punish launcher)
Thank you for showing your losses even when facing Ling Xiayou. Ling is actually one of the lowest tier character even in t8 (with her low damage and compared to others' character moves). Her moves are mostly subpar (no special effect, very hard to connect) and easily punishable or whiff once you learn them. As you are a Hwoarang main, I think you can punish her much more easily. But, maybe you felt bored, I could feel your boredom. Maybe you let Ling player won lol.
I know it's probably a legacy thing, but why does her Waning Moon lead to a full ass combo out in the open? Admittedly, I like Ling because she's pretty, but I can feel K-Wiss' frustration through the screen when she can just AOP and invalidate 75% of Hwoarang's moveset. 5:31 - 5:35 I shouldn't be surprised anymore, but she ducked a mid. Like slow it down and stop at 5:33 to see how silly it is. 13:47 - 14:04 Fanciness timestamped. K-Wiss: "No glaze, for real, no glaze, no glaze." We get it, K-Wiss, you like your ham extra dry. Would I be incredibly obnoxious with her if I could play Ling? Probably, yes.
AOP and movement is Ling's strength, yes AOP can duck mids though not all of them.. she has many other weaknesses, she is extremely vulnerable to stepping, her damage is lower than many other chars, her basic moves lack range and her frames are not so good compared to Hwo, she is much less safe when pressing and need to take more risks. Her identity is whiff punish and AOP is precisely built for her style to reinforce it. People complaining about her probably do not know the matchup, of course she can be very strong in the right hands but the key to deal with her is good fundamentals, strong knowledge of her moves and be conservative, not spamming moves ( as strong Ling players will whiff punish or CH you if you play into their hands )and knowing her patterns well (very few people do) because she can be punished on so many stuffs she does and step launched... She has a very complex movelist , requires high speed difficult execution to make the most out of her (optimal follow ups, low reaction times) and her movement ability ( which she relies on heavily and adds another layer of depth with her ) and as such is one of the most difficult character to master in T8 : she requires a lot of training and a creative approach ( she cannot adopt the same gameplan against any character unlike some other chars like Drag or Victor, because she heavily relies on whiff punishing therefore matchup knowledge is even more important for a Ling player to get good reads and expertly manage spacing with her unique movement patterns).

Yes she has amazing pressure because of great 50-50s and high speed transitions, it is indeed one of the most evasive character in the game. However to be honest her keep out game is weak, her pokes are short ranged ( compare that to Feng or Lili) , her damage on most regular move is lower than many chars ( compare that to Paul, Dragunov, Steve for instance). I sort of disagree on the frames because whilst most of what she does with low attacks is not launch punishable, it is still punishable and she does not have as many frame traps as some other chars. Also apart from a few moves (Ub3, Hypnotist 2 , f4 etc), she mostly relies on combos, punishes and strings because of short range low dmg pokes and many of these strings are horizontal/not tracking well, so easily stepped or sidewalked and punishable. Not being able to poke her way to victory like many other characters is a huge weakness IMO.. I wouldn't say she is low risk because to get your mixups you need to bait to whiff punish or expose yourself to close the distance due to her short range strings/pokes. To be a good Ling player, it is mandatory to be really fast ( skilled) to react with tight windows follow ups to combo ( like with Lee , high speed play character) . Finally she has one of the deepest movelist to work with, she is not easy to master and matchup knowledge is very important with her because you cannot apply the same gameplan against everyone like some other characters can because whiff punishing using superior movement is not optional with her. I cannot prove that but I am convinced that for these reasons, the average Ling Xiaoyu player ( there are not that many ) is more skilled than average so it can convey a wrong impression to people losing to her that she is OP on top of these players not knowing the matchup and her mixups well. I think that you are right that she is clearly better than in T7 but I also think that several characters currently are extremely strong in offence ( borderline broken for 2-3 of them) and that she is not really one of them ( because she has more obvious weaknesses) though she definitely has outstanding pressure potentially when a very strong player uses her ( though not on par with Dragunov's pressure for instance because her pressure is mostly from her high speed 50-50s and AOP evasiveness, instead of based on frame advantages.
