The Moodies are my all-time favourite band since 1967\8. John's songs are amongst my favourites - Isn't Life Strange' 'Candle Of Life' House of Four Doors' and 'Talking Out of Turn' just to name a few.
Loved this interview. It is so great to have these interviews on hand as time marches on. John is a real legend as are the rest of the Moodies. Such a class act & gentleman. So much respect & love this guy on so many levels !! 💙
Amazing how songwriters just have songs come to them. I wish that would happen to me. I think that songwriters are like an antenna that is tuned to a certain frequency where songs are floating around already fully composed and the songwriter just “tunes into” it and can hear it and transpose it for all of us to enjoy 😉 .
John Lodge wrote “Candle Of Life”- ‘Something there outside, says we’re only in the hands of time, falling slowly. Is there for us to know, with love that we can go, burn slowly, the candle of life.’ How very wise, a song for the twilight of life.
One of my most favorite Moody Blues Songs is John Lodges Talking out of turn is like 7 minutes or more but its great to take a country drive and just jam to it!!
I love the Moody Blues. They were so awesome to see live. Everyone was dancing and singing and the guys would feed off that. I had a lot of fun at their shows. I'm sorry we've lost 2 of them. It's so hard to believe that we're all getting so older now. They left a lot of wonderful music for us to listen to. I hope the younger people have a chance to listen to good music like this. Maybe they can change music back to what is was like with the Moody Blues and other music greats. Thanks for these wonderful interviews you do John. We get to hear to so many funny stories. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and Shannon and your family.
Everybody has those wonderful moments of amazing creativity.... it's knowing to capture somehow it before it disappears. Isn't life strange! Thanks John!
Hi John, bought your new signed CD a few days ago for a gift to a life long fan, she's 66 and lives and breaths the Moody Blues, loved your rendition of "GEMINI DREAM" you just released live.
I'll bet John Lodge is a wonderful father, husband, grandfather...family man! I have fond memories of seeing The Moody Blues in San Francisco and Seattle during their Long Distance Voyager tour. The band and sound was tight and warm. I can still see in my mind the gorgeous lighting, featuring a screen at an upward facing 45 degree angle. It was the backdrop for a beautiful lighting with fog design throughout the show.
Amazing how a song can come together in your head like isn't life strange. These guys aren't made their born that way. I'm glad I've got to see them many times over with the long Island phiamonic
It was wild when I had an experience one morning 5 verses came out on their own. Glad he mentioned Mike. Still wonder why he blocked Mike twice from speaking at the Rock hall inductions. Too bad he didnt talk about him & Justin going to Lubbock Texas at night to see Buddy Holly's grave.
Maybe John carrying out a request from Mike's family.....they may have said to the other 4 something like : 'Mike has prepared something to say, but when the time comes and if he doesn't seem quite up to it mentally, then gently shepherd him from speaking'. Hence the confusion, and, if so, hats off to John for taking a brave action, just because he happened to be in the nearest position to do it . There's no way the likes of John or Justin would have prevented Mike speaking out of pettiness.
Isn't Life Strange...I used a recording of that song in a letter to convince my now wife of 30 plus years to get back together before we were married. So most likely without it no 3 kids, no 3 beautiful grandkids. Thanks John!
John is a man who never took his success for granted. Always humble, and always so kind to the fans.
Yeah he was " just a singer in a rock n roll band."

Wonder why he didn't sing it
@burnlastsunday on their early albums, a few times the lead singer is different than the writer.
I 've always loved the Moody Blues. One of my top 10 bands for sure.

John Lodge lives down the road from me in Naples, Florida
Always loved the moody blues and always will. Their music is timeless and insightful.

After you break up one can find themselves repeating the same mistakes.
I wonder if John was ever mistaken for Steve Priest...
excuse me I'm going to write a million dollar song :)
some of his bass lines are a doozy to play
He’s an EXTREMELY underrated bassist. Some of his stuff really kicks @$$.
Agree...It's Up To You and You And Me are some of my fav of his bass work
Loved the band in the early days but then got to commercial for me
The interview was really boring
The slow Birmingham accent is hard to listen to.
Their early stuff was outstanding and unique but they didn't rise to that level later on.
