I've been watching Gane. I've said it before, he is a serious serious problem for the heavyweight division and tonight I really considered the fact that he very well may be able to beat Francis if he can avoid letting Francis get that KO punch

One of the most impressive things ciryl gane did was in the 2nd round I think when he put his head down and went to push volkov instead of pushing right away he grabbed his hand and held it so volkov couldn’t land the uppercut. That showed that he knows his own weaknesses thst the opponent could exploit and didn’t let him do it. Beautiful performance he’s probsbly my favorite heavyweight.
The fighter who could push Ciryl into the red zone might have won half the fight. But even so I won't be surprised if he can overcome this kind of situation. Mama Gane didn't raise no fool...

Volkov was standing frozen for a lot of the fight. I was hoping the back tattoo would pull through for him. Unfortunately, it didn’t go that way. That being said, I think Gane has a much better chance against Francis in comparison to Volkov. So the overall progression of the weight class works for me.
Absolutely, Volkov gets blasted while Gane brings some speed and movement to give himself more chances to land counters on Francis.

I don't even care if Gane gets finishes because I find his unique style of fighting and his fight IQ entertaining enough on it's own. Plus there's always so much tension in heavyweight fights.

Despite being happy for Gane because I am french, I was so sad for Volkov who is one of my favorite HW (with Stipe and Gane)... I hope he will bounce back and have a UFC title fight at one point.
hes still young so he has time, but he has some major holes in his game that he needs to clear up.

Cyril has to be a future champ in the making. The fighters IQ is amazing, and I also appreciate that he doesn't allow opinions to drive him into unnecessary risk taking. He knows what gets him the wins, and utilises it. Yes he's not finishing, but give him time and he'll adapt and evolve, sort of like Usman has in recent fights.
Usman hasn't "evolved", he's only refined what he already had. He's been capable of knocking people out since at least 2017.

Yes he's always had the ability, but as a wrestler he wasn't inclined. Now he has the skillset as well as the ability to KO not just anyone, but a granite chin like Masvidal who many would agree is the better striker.

@Smarty Pants That is why you don't come 45lbs lighter than your opponent as a wrestler. Stipe was 235 and Ngannou was 280 on fight night. Although Ngannou's TD and wrestling has improved a lot it is not good enough to counter Stipe's wrestling. Stipe made a huge mistake coming in 15lbs lighter than the first fight cuz this time francis was 15lbs heavier than last time. I still think Stipe will have a hard time beating Ngannou if they have a trilogy but there is a chance he might pull it off.

All heavyweights have power but Francis has power beyond anything I’ve seen, Gane has the best defence on the feet I’ve seen at heavyweight never seems to get hit with anything big. Interesting fight still I favour Ngannou the man is just built different.

I don’t think he hits as hard as some other HW’s… but honestly, he doesn’t need to. He’s pretty good at controlling range and distance, and he only rarely gets hit cleanly.
But not loading up is what allows him to sneakily get strikes in and past guards… there isn’t any wind up or telegraph… that obviously comes at the expense of power and impact, but over time that can still wear anyone down.
After tonight, I will say that I don’t think beats or lasts with Stipe, N’Gannou, and I think he’d fight to a losing decision against Jones.
But he’s still very good, and he’s still getting better. I just think he eventually gets caught against one of the larger punchers…

The reason he doesn't hit as hard as some other is because he isn't anchored to the ground and he hasn't still be pushed into the red zone. But be sure that with his overall strength and stamina he could very well put anyone to sleep. Another reason is because his high fight IQ and prudence, he doesn't want to break his hand stupidly.
And many people already said he'd lose against punchers like Rozenstruik or Volkov. And you can see the result.

Gane has pretty subpar power for a heavyweight. Probably partly by design to accomodate his clean crisp striking. But yeah most heavyweights can ko people with one shot while gane doesn’t do that

Not mentionned that Volkov has always a very solid chin. Only Lewis with One conter sat down punch could sleep him. With Gane he was even bigger and could see and brace with every punch, even the overhand in the sequence displayed by Weasel. He might not be a super powerpuncher, but he deals enough power and violence to froze all his opponents after half round so…
Technically he of course has some power, he's still a heavyweight. Compared to other Heavyweights though, his power is on the lower end.

They should either allow the use of steroids or conduct tests way more frequently. TRT Belfort was proof of what juicing does in fighting. I'm with diaz on that. Everyone is doing it. Most people just quit early enough for the stuff to get out of the body before testing.

It's good to see a heavyweight prospect that isn't just a big dude with heavy hands and no cardio but I don't think he is champion material. I don't see him getting past Stipe's technical boxing or Ngannou's ridiculous power.

I’m so happy for him and Fernand Lopez. What keeps on amazing me is how relaxed Bon Gamin is. He’s the absolute opposite of the tense fighter his coach was describing when talking about N’Gannou in a French podcast. Yes. Let’s make it against Stipe. Then it’s the war that hopefully will make the MMA Factory totally recognized as a true world-class champ breeder.
Gane deserves either the champion or an ex champion, i agree. But i completely disagree when it comes to Stipe, i think Stipe deserves immediate rematch with Ngannou. It's one one.

What I find incredible is that Gane succeeded to pressure Volkov. And I'm not that surprised that he couldn't drop him, very few fighters could KO Volkov in his long career, outside of very heavy punchers like Lewis.

He mentioned on the post fight show that the next aspect of his game he intends to improve next is his power. Special fighter. Great breakdown Weas!

The speed and footwork he has for a heavyweight is multiple breaths of fresh air may lack a bit in the power but technical striking footwork iq and featherweight like speed has now made the division more interesting

This guy can easily outpoint any heavyweight but his style is not going to win him many fans. He’s also a dirty fighter landing back of the head shots and targeting Volkovs blindside right after he gouged his eye.
He became my favorite fighter tonight, with that style, he’s like a heavyweight izzy real Patient and technical fighter, he has an exciting style, so I think he’ll gain many fans.

@Smarty Pants Ngannou hit JDS clean and he wasnt out cold. A jab is still a jab, u cant get the same power as a straight clean powerhand... and when u blitz in which is a big part of Ganes game u dont always plant yr feat as a flatfooted Ngannou does, im not saying he has Ngannou power but to say he doesnt have power is just completely wrong and not looking at it in perspective... people have different chins and technique so just assuming he doesnt have power is not objectivly looking at it.

Cyril Gane is what we really think Jon Jones would be at heavyweight. Unorthodox, great striking with his hand and kick, great wrestling, keeping the distance.

IDK why, but Gane gives me shades of Robert Whittaker. Light on his feet, good jab, lots of feints, good variety of kicks, outclasses his opponents. Except it's in the body of a massive heavyweight.

I don't see Gane winning against Ngannou, but it surprised me to see Gane seems not afraid of Ngannou, and they've trained together under the same head coach. So possibly Gane knows things we don't.
