    I saw somewhere once that a lot of koreans think that finna means "finally" instead of "fixing to" which makes the line "can i someday [finally] find my time?" and the iconic "you gon [finally] catch me" make wayyyyy more sense--it's just major mistranslation. like sometimes you can sort of see how it would get translated like that "i'm finna go there" --> "i'm [finally] go[ing] there" so if you take into account how poorly english grammar, specifically present participles, get translated into languages like korean, it kinda makes sense. take this with a grain of salt tho i have no documented proof that "finna" is translated like that, and i don't know any korean people personally to verify.

    for my time (and as if its your last cuz it does the same thing even tho its not in the video) i think what makes most sense is that they mistook "finna" as slang for "finally".... "can i someday finally find my time" "you gon' finally catch me"

  • @nickjames8377
    @nickjames8377 5 місяців тому +21

    In the Jungkook section, apparently, many people confuse "finna" to be another way to say "finally." Meaning the sentiment of the phrase is supposed to read more as "Can I someday, finally find my time? "

  • @whivvy
    @whivvy Місяць тому +3

    I think the mistake in the jungkook song has to do with “finna” having a future tense. “can I someday” erases the need for a future tensed verb, so it becomes redundant, but I imagine the lyricist just thought it was an opportunity to enter a “Cool Hip Slang Word”

    @choujimi  5 місяців тому +26

    I thought of this while editing: “No one can stop me and CAN’T deny” for the UNIS example wouldn’t work in context -
    We can’t separate both parts of the conjunction and have them both make sense:
    “No one can’t deny” means that everyone would deny them, so it doesn’t really fit with the context of the song
