The 4 Biggest Reasons To NOT Buy Lawnbox (2-Year Review)

  • In this Lawnbox review I wanted to share the frustrations I've felt with this fertilizer program over the past two years. As a regular user of the Lawnbox product line I felt it was important to publicly showcase it's shortcomings while still choosing to continue using their products.
    I've used all Lawnbox products over the past couple years a number of times (except for Pure Patch) and in the coming season I'll continue using three of their products, most notably Lawn Luxe and Grub Out.
    The reason I like Lawn Luxe is because it's got a one-to-one ratio of nitrogen to potassium which is something I love seeing in products because so many lawn owners fall short in their Potassium applications every year.
    ► Lawn Luxe: turfmech.link/...
    If I wanted to go fully into a low-nitrogen liquid plan complete with bio-stimulants I might start using Lawnbright a bit more often.

    If you are like me and are still OK using the Lawnbox products or their subscription program (even knowing my own reservations) then go ahead and price it out yourself. I still think it's worthwhile for most yard owners and I am still able to offer discounts on the price of their stuff on this page of my website: turfmechanic.c...

    Great info in this video for any potential buyer, well done Brian! I haven't personally used this, but I have seen a lot of ads for it online.

    Hmmm slightly too late on watching this video, just ordered the fall fix since I saw you have it in a few videos and needed it for new seedlings. The down to earth alfalfa meal was great. I kind of just eyeball things so the salt index thing is scary. Well I just watched the Scott's natural video so I might grab that next time. Any tips for micros?

    What is your best go to organic fertilizer???

    Lowe's Sta-Green Natural is probably one of the most under rated fertilizers. It's made from Feather meal, blood meal, wheat flour, etc also contains humic and kelp. It does use 12% coated urea. It's a 16-0-10, if you put it down along with Milorganite you can get close to that magic 4-1-2 ratio.

      Were definitely getting closer! My kids finally started setting up their picnic play time on my front lawn yesterday instead of the neighbors, that's gotta mean it's getting closer! 😁

    I saw quite a few Lawnbox ads pop up last season on UA-cam with the similar tone for the target demographic as all the auto narration voice ads for cheap Chinese and solar panel products that are all over UA-cam now...all going after that certain young, low attention span demographic. And their ads were oversimplifying lawn care to make it seem like all you do is buy this, dump it on and you have a dark green lawn within a week. And when I spotted their products in the big box store and saw how one of their liquid products was boasting so much about how the container was a supposed environmentally friendly biodegradable bag instead of a plastic bottle...it became very clear who the products are targeted for. The quantities seem pretty low also for the price- no avocado toast for my lawn...

      Yep, they definitely have a target market and it's not exactly regular viewers of lawn care videos on YT :D - I've said a few time in vids that I think these companies do offer great value for the people that do want their lawns to look good but don't want to learn everything about getting the job done (no one has the time to become experts in everything afterall) and although they are more expensive than other ways of doing lawncare they certainly are cheaper than hiring the job out to lawn companies. Kind of like food delivery meal kits the niche is starting to look saturated; there's a lot of new subscription companies out there this year compared to just a few years ago...and it's getting harder to differentiate between them all too. Going to be interesting to see which ones become the companies with staying power...also going to be interesting to see if there's enough long term demand for companies like this if their target customer is someone who admittedly doesn't want to learn a ton about doing DIY lawncare. On a sidenote, since moving to Cali and trying avocado toast first hand - It's pretty stinking good. Toss a bit of bacon on top and that's a winner for brunch!

    Good information Brian. I actually LOVE LawnBox. I've had fantastic results in the lawn since using it over the last 2 years. Weed control would be nice. I don't really use the Grub control either. Not sure I will use the Patch repair product since the seed isn't weed free.

      Thanks a lot, I still really like them, hope that came through with this video. I'll probably drop fall fix this year but that's still to be determined. Those sprayable special products from lawnbright are pretty cool though...kinda wish the two brands were the same company and I could pick between all the products in the same line. 😆

    I think I’m going to stick with PGF complete this whole season. Do you foresee any problems with that?

    • @TurfMechanic
      @TurfMechanic  Рік тому +3

      I don't see any problems at all. Pgf complete is similar to lawnbox stuff in that it offers npk plus humic acids. The products is very close to my preferred ratio of 8-2-5. They also add micros that you don't get with lawnbox and it's a bit cheaper. Difference is it's not natural sources of N. Slow release is generated from MU methaleneurea which is low on salt index so that's great and K is from SOP just like with Lawnbox and other OMRI products. You still don't get kelp or cytokinins but for one singular product it's a great single product to choose. Consider adding biochar and cytogrow and maybe an app of mycorrizae and azomite and you will have a very sturdy lawn for years to come. Pgf by itself though should take you far.
