    Another great flying plane with a very detailed build. I had purchased a Carbon Cub 2 meter. I have watched Brian's build videos and they have given me good tips for assembly. I will choose my next airplane based on his reviews. I plan to use his link for purchase, so he gets the credit for doing the work. He obviously loves his job, and has a great camera crew.

    Just had my first flight, 15mph winds on a 4s 5000mAh. It went well but needed more power. So I landed with the beautiful flaps and no need for reverse. I didn't think it would be that bad with 4s but it was lacking in the heavy wind. Not even close to unlimited vertical LoL. So had a freaking blast. Thanks for your channel and y'alls time. 🤘😊✈️

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  3 роки тому +1

      You're welcome, and glad to hear she'll make it on 4S....I wasn't brave enough to try it. I felt she was still "heavy" on 6S in stall turns...not that she can't do it, it's more that the power reserves help to make up for my lack of piloting skills at times ;)
      In 15mph wind, she'll perform fine with 6S, but if you're landing into the wind (well, straight into the wind) you will need throttle to put her down going forward ;) When you get her up in calm, you will be in LOVE ;)

    • @danfalbo
      @danfalbo 2 роки тому

      Hey guys, I fly mine on 4s occasionally, but only in calm or almost calm and steady air. It flies just fine, but, mushy, and I worry about not having enough power to pull out of trouble if I goof up. I've made turns onto final a bit too slow with my Timber-X and had one wing stall, fortunately the X has more than enough power to recover. The C150 doesn't feel strong enough on 4s to power out of a goof up. It's absolutely amazing on 6s and relaxing on 4s when the wind is calm. Happy Landings !

    Brian, I love your videos. You are sharp and also have a great personality and sense of humor. Easily the best RC "how to" videos anywhere! It's also great that you are a really good RC pilot, and can put all these models you review through their paces in a way that showcases everything and answers all the questions that any of us highly experienced guys would ever want the answers to. I stepped away from flying power for quite a few years (got back into gliders) and I'd never owned or flown any foamie (I was actually adamantly "anti-foamie"). Jump forward 10 years and I'm shocked at how well engineered these modern electric foamies are, and I'm enjoying getting back into powered models with how easy it is to get a model in the air today with the super high level of prefabrication, and the level of scale detail is awesome! I always check now to see if you've previously reviewed a model I'm interested in. It doesn't stop me from buying and building/flying one if you haven't, but I know that if you have, the video will definitely be worth watching and also very entertaining. If we lived near each other, I can only assume we'd end up good friends. You would also be fun to have as a crew member on any of the jets I fly in my day job!
    Also, your "camera crew" is first classs in every way. She is a big reason you're videos are so good. My wife is amazing, and yours obviously is as well. We are lucky guys to have such wonderful mates!

    I recently bought the plane and the cowl screw problem still exists but what the real problem is, is that the bit size that fits them perfectly is actually 1/16" and not 1.5 mm like everyone uses and horizon would have you think. 1.5 mm is a sloppy fit and you'll strip the head out tightening them down. Horizon accidentally put some s.a.e. size fasteners in the mix of parts is whats going on, because if you use a 1/16 size bit then the screws will tighten down perfectly, I promise you.

    Hi Brian, the original version of this plane i had the same problem with the cowl screws. I patiently worked the screws in till they fit flush then mounted the cowl, a pain in the back side for sure. I found with the front wheel on the tricycle set up i had to file a new flat spot for the locking screw on the shaft, this then gave me the right angle to have enough thread on the push rod to align the front wheel correctly. A tip for you if you choose to try the tricycle landing gear. All that aside it's an awesome plane and really love flying it. A big G'DAY from Adelaide South Australia.

    Hi Brian. I bought what has turned out to be one of the last nosewheel Carbon Z C150's from a national retail chain. It was a also a pain to assemble for the same reasons you encountered. It took 2 trips to the local hobby shop to get screws that worked. Then, once I got it together I had serious motor problems. It would run at over 50% power but not less. After back and forth with Horizon four times they sent a new ESC and motor that arrived yesterday. I got the Avian ESC that comes with the new version. That seems to have fixed the problem. It's been almost a month since the purchase and it's not been flown yet. Hopefully it will fly in two days at my club's monthly meeting.

      Wow! I finally got to fly the 150 yesterday with everything working. It took 6 weeks for all the fixes and a perfect day to come together. The nosewheel was also a problem. The set screws kept coming loose. A few drops of blue Lock Tight seems to have fixed that. Flies good and looks great in the air. Next up I'm ordering new FAA registration decals, N2871S. That's the 150 I flew for my private practical on 1/27/68.

    Dear sir:
    I have an FPV proposal. There is nothing more cool than landing FPV. It heightens the experience because things are happening, and the ground is coming up, and it is total immersive experience. Here is the proposal: FPV landing with PAPI lights that shoots the landing decent approach. PAPI lights would give you the proper glide descent angle. I have not yet seen any youtubers make a PAPI light FPV landing approach video. I just think that would be so neat.
    I personally have not flown rc in 20 years, but I am looking at the turbo timber with its flaps and slats and I want to do FPV touch and go.
    By the way, PAPI lights are not hard to make. It doesn’t even have to be a ‘light’ It can just be visible white and red paint that is half covered (ie the red is covered up at a certain visual angle and the white at another angle). PAPI lights.
    So, what do you think? Would you ever consider a PAPI light landing FPV video? Thx.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 роки тому

      This would be very cool, but I could ALSO use them for PPG landings ;) I have it on my list of things to think about.

    HI Brian, I am just getting back into RC planes after being out 40 years. Wow, have things changed! Thank you for all the time you put into making these videos they have been a big part of what has brought me back into the hobby. I bought a Concendo Evo and LOVE IT. I may pick up a Carbon Z Cessna but I have one concern, how long are the parts available for these foam planes? I would hate to spend $500 on a plane and not have replacement parts when the inevitable happens. I will even remember to use your links this time. :) Thanks again!

    Great video Brian, much appreciated :-) I bought this plane and used your video as a guide. Same problems regarding the screws which were changed to better quality. Only thing that bugs me are those noisy servos. The sound seems to come mainly from the flap servo's. Any idea why they make that much noise on this plane ? I also have the Turbo Timber Evo and on that plane you hardly hear the servo's on the setup bench.

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Рік тому +1

      The foam does seem to resonate the sound, but with high power digital servos, and AS3X, there can be an annoying "hum" that is unavoidable in my experience.
      I mean, you can hear it flying over out of throttle!!! BUT, if that's the biggest complaint about this plane, I'll take it...LOVE THIS HUUUUGE BEAUTY!!!

    Excellent review of this plane. I have one now, and love it. I use the thrust reverse often upon landing, mostly just to practice using it in case I mess up and the plane is heading towards a fence or something on the landing roll. I was intrigued that you were disappointed at not getting the nose wheel option with the plane. I've found tricycle gear R/C planes to be a pain to take care of, the nose wheel mounts tend to be weak and get loose / floppy after a few landings. Especially HH products, they really need to up their game on nose wheels. I really liked the original C150, but, didn't get one because of the nose wheel. When I saw the release of the taildragger, with other improvements, I grabbed the first one my local hobby shop got in. I'm very happy I waited, this plane is rugged and I've made use of the smart tech and thrust reverse. Anyway, I always enjoy your flight reviews, very through, informative, down to earth and entertaining. Keep up the good work.

    OK, between you and a couple others, I've figured out my plane - this Cessna. Now, new flyer (flew Sig Kadet YEATS ago) and, with the new electronic capabilities, I should be able to handle this. My question (you, newby) is, since I have no instructions, ert., what is Expo? Thanks!

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  2 роки тому

      Think of EXPO as a way to soften the center of the sticks. IT's easier to just TRY IT and then see if you like it. It's a 2 minute setup and you can make it so it works on a switch. I talk about my NORMAL method, and it's pretty straight forward.
      When you fly a stabilized (AS3X Artificial Stabilization Three Axis ) plane you will be AMAZED by how locked in the plane feels. SAFE (Sensor Aided Flight Envelope) will automatically level the plane when you let go of the sticks, but you may not need or want that if you already know how to fly.
      What I'd recommend...just get flying, but if you can tolerate the higher cost of the NX8 (computerized transmitter), rather than just getting a RTF (Ready to fly) you'll benefit greatly from the better controller, and you can start getting things going from the get-go.
      There's so much to do and learn, you won't get it all in a few videos, let alone a single comment, so please do come back with questions. We do this for so many people, it's just part of what we do here on BrianPhillipsRC

    Hey Brian. I’m torn between buying either the Carbon-z-Cessna or the Carbon z Cub SS. Which one do you personally recommend? I’m looking for power and performance rather than scale detail

      I think you get a slightly better value with the CZ Cessna 150T, given it comes with LED's, but beyond that, I just have a soft spot for the CZ Cub...I love the looks of a Cub!

      @@BrianPhillipsRC cool! Did you notice any difference in power between the two? Which aircraft is more capable of hovering?

    They made the Timber 1.5 and the Turbo Timber too good. The Timber is pushing 6 years old and became a float plane to avoid “The Hangar of Death”. The Turbo Timber, doesn’t get out much, but still looks brand new. Hell, I still have plane number 1, the Apprentice S 1.5.

    Try using a wide rubber band on the odd size hole like you did with the plastic bag

      I need to try this the next time I have to work with these goofy screws.

      Scroll all the way to the right when you're at the flight screen...you will see it. BUT you have to get in the menu within a few seconds of startup, FYI.

    Have you tried putting a flat rubber band over head of screw or bolt head to tighten it down?

    Those clips are called body retention clips, from auto racing - RC and real )hood clips).

    hey brian, quick question. i set my 150T up useing this video, when we programed the remote like you did, we used switch F for dual rates and expo . when i plugged my plane in everything worked awesome. however when i flip switch f down my throws dont change at all. why is that?

    • @BrianPhillipsRC
      @BrianPhillipsRC  Рік тому +1

      There isn't really a big change in output.
      If you do exactly what I suggest (which is basically the same on most every aircraft I setup), there will only be a 10% reduction in total throw for any given control surface with "F" in the higher expo/lowest rate setting (with the switch toward your belly or down).
      When you will see more difference, is in the OUTPUT CURVE. Your EXPO is only going to change how much the control surface moves, compared to your stick input, toward the CENTER of the stick, and the RATE part will impact the total output in a straight linear way...
      Maybe just make sure they look the same as the video, and then if you REALLY want to see if it's "working" change the RATE on the setting mentioned above from 90% to like 60%, and you'll DEFINITELY see it.
      ...but to reiterate, EXPO is pretty hard to SEE, as it has to do with output PER stick position.
