Totally agree with what Ellie said- Fine art, usually, has a deeper message because it comes from the intelect. While decorative art, usually, has the intent to look pretty and match the trends in decor.
Good to hear all this. I paint realistic animals. I thought of myself as a painter and not an artist for a long time because I was not being "creative". But and animal can be symbolic and an animal is wild and in and of itself has meaning. Cultural and individual. Looking at the beauty of the animal shows how perfect God is. The amazing intelligence of the animal and the wildness of us is brought forth while contemplating a painting of an animal. I don't care anymore if someone thinks I am not a real artist, I NEED to paint these animals. Many people will use them for decoration and some will truly contemplate and be moved by them.
You are a real artist! Animals carry a mysterious energy and move human emotions and thoughts in needed ways. I can feel your passion and love for what you do. You are an ARTIST - a beautiful one.
Makes me think of Banksy. He had a piece of art that went to auction. The minute it sold (for whatever crazy amount) the frame was a shredder and the painting was shredded. Could you imagine? Paying millions for a painting and then it starts shredding. 😮 Of course now the powers that be say it’s worth even more now. The statement the artist made was to show how the elites are so stuck in their own world they assign value to arbitrary things. To me art on my walls make me happy. I have my kids art on the wall. My art on the wall. Art my dad collected and I have now. I have art I bought on vacation. It’s all meaningful to me. ❤ Is it worth millions? No. It’s priceless.
Thanks guys. It was brave of y'all to draw live. And thanks to you, I'm massively encouraged that I too can make a ton of money in art. If not by selling art, then by selling the dream of selling art to students desperate for help.
But you’re becoming soooo strong Your story will be profound (Keep your eyes on Jesus (He was Dad to my single parent kids He is my protector Provider Spiritual leader And so much more!!!!
This was such a helpful conversation for someone like me who has been working toward becoming an illustrator and is figuring out where my work might fit in the digital world. Thank you!
I'm so thrilled that I recently discovered your channel. I'm admittedly a UA-cam junkie & don't feel a bit guilty about it. Lol I can't thank you enough for this amazing, thought-provoking, & informative discussion! I've been painting for quite a while now & ready to dive into Surface Pattern Design but struggling to figure out how to do both or even decide if I should do both. But, I agree that the two worlds are starting to merge. So, thankfully I think that I should be able to manage both without having my left side brain combatting my right side & keeping me stuck. I'm so intrigued & would love to follow Dimitra's journey as she takes a new path. Thanks again so much & I would love to hear more about the other tangents that you couldn't fit into this episode. Be well & happy painting or creating to your heart's delight!
This podcast provided so much information,, i never thought about decorative and fine art🤭... It was so interesting podcast ,, am going to listen this again.. haha😆.. i just loved it!! ❤️
I watched a documentary about how a lot of expensive art is a tax dodge scheme, as people with stupid amounts of money don't have to pay tax on art, and so they choose an artist to patronise, (no matter how dire it might look to the rest of us), and buy it at over priced rates just to keep in storage and hang on to their pile of dosh.
I enjoyed the right brain exercise this looks like a good exc, I’ve had lots of strokes on the right side of my brain, but this looks like a good exercise I can do that will be fun, thank you so much👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🥰😀
Massively successful Australian artist Thalia Stanton art covers both sides of that art spectrum. Fine art that appeals to so many that she made a million dollars in sales in a year.
So this is how Picasso did it. Decorative Art vs. Fine Art I think is rather ambiguous as one or the other can and does change with the setting venue and background it is set in etc... in a home or corporate office, high-end gallery, or exhibition. A designer may put a high-end artwork like a Rothko in a Grand home because it complements its surroundings and via versa does this make the Rothko a decritiveArtwork.? Or if I put my MCM Chiyo in my little house make it a decorative Artwork.????????????
Interesting ? So please correct me if I’m missing it But decorative art compliments the room Fine Art is focal point which the room is decorated around? Did I say that correctly?
Several times you mentioned hanging art in the bathroom?? Should anyone really do that? I'm thinking that mould would'nt care if it's fine art or not...
I don't understand where you are taking all this. *The beauty is in the eyes of beholder* No matter what voice you give to your Artwork, it won't become worthwhile, if it doesn't connects to viewer. Here gallery owner use their hidden weapon and that is call (*THE ART OF STORYTELLING*) deny all you can but this is a reality.
Honestly this whole right brain left brain nonsense is just that, nonsense. I just use my brain and feel into whatever space allows for the appropriate mode of thinking.
Unfortunately, horse heads with lady heads, with loose landscape imagery running through them isn't all that decorative either. Abstract art with simple on-trend color schemes tends to work better in most decorative compositions.
@@milanartstudios I'm sure your sales numbers say otherwise, of course. It's just interesting what niches people are able to find that actually works in the art market
The dichotomy presented is false. Any painting, if its well executed, has the potential to be turned into a print. I see art as much of a democratic process as any other walk of life. Art should be available to as many people as possible whether it's in print form or originals. ALL art has the ability to enhance a space whether it's a few simple squiggles, one colour throughout (Yves Klein blue) or something more complex. The size of your bank account should not be a deterrent to having a nice picture in your home, so prints of all sizes and descriptions shouldn't be seen as inferior to originals. If that's the argument you're making then perhaps you need to look at the quality of your originals, or maybe you're just chasing the big bucks from just selling originals

It was because of Milan Art Institute, Elli, especially that I decided to invest in my art passion. Thank you, guys.

I almost lost all belief in myself. I want to be an artist. Thanks for inspiring me, a single mom. It’s been so hard,

I love that hair style on Ellie!
Thoughtful and informative. Really enjoyed listening, thanks!

John Q Public is a term. You were correct, Eli. 😊
Incredible discussion 👏 thank you as always for sharing
Massively successful Australian artist Thalia Stanton art covers both sides of that art spectrum. Fine art that appeals to so many that she made a million dollars in sales in a year.
Actually a very good exercise , thanks 🙏
oh mg I remeber that exercise from high school art classes.

But decorative art compliments the room
Fine Art is focal point which the room is decorated around?
Did I say that correctly?
I am wondering if anyone knows if Milan Art recommends varnishing their works before selling it. Does anyone know?
Yes we do recommend that!
both equally good as likenesses
Such a great discussion I love it sooooooo helpful!
We are so happy to hear that!
How do you think AI will affect this. People can create their own decorative art now for print, but not originals.
Several times you mentioned hanging art in the bathroom?? Should anyone really do that? I'm thinking that mould would'nt care if it's fine art or not...
I don't understand where you are taking all this.

John Q. Public is definitely a real phrase. It's just from the 1920s. Very Monty Burns.
Detrás is more abstract! Which many prefer
🥰👍🏼 great perspective
John Q Public is a real saying referring to the general public. Just like Joe Shmoe. I got your back, Elli 😅❤
I say, every Tom, Dick and Harry 😂
Momma wins 🏆 🙌
Elli's drawing.
Honestly this whole right brain left brain nonsense is just that, nonsense. I just use my brain and feel into whatever space allows for the appropriate mode of thinking.
It's proven science, look into people who have a stroke on the left side of their brain.
Ellie
His talking would distract my brain he should have just been quiet lol
Yes, men outnumber women 😩
Unfortunately, horse heads with lady heads, with loose landscape imagery running through them isn't all that decorative either. Abstract art with simple on-trend color schemes tends to work better in most decorative compositions.
Thanks for your input!
