    I'm a total beginner to using products like these, I'm a mum trying to help my daughter through some of her a level in art, and have been trying to find ways to add more dimension to her course work portfolio.I didn't even know about texture paste and embossing powders with stencils until a month ago, Your video is so clear and helpful. Thank you so much! Will deinately be watching more!!!

    Thanks Jennifer, I am using the Ranger's Texture paste for the first time. Trying watercolor paint on 1 and distress oxide on the other sample. Let's see how they come out. Thanks for all the very cool tips. You are the best! Have a great day and happy crafting!

    Thank you for show both pastes. It was interesting how the embossing was different from one of the other. Something I didn't think about until you had shared the comparison of the two.

    I saw CHA videos of Tim using the product. He says you need to dry the texture paste for a few hours if you don't want the bubbling (overnight is best). Just like you said, it depends on what you want. If I want the deep colors of the inks, I'd use Texture paste. If I want to do something at a faster pace, I'd use the paste.

  • @slyseyes
    @slyseyes 5 років тому +17

    Uhm, when inking over the stencils (at 6:46 on the video), I saw a complete difference in how you applied the ink. On the embossing paste (on the left), you just pulled the tool over the top and rubbed it around a bit. On the texture paste (on the right), it looked like you really pushed the color into the paste. I think that pushing the color in would create a darker color. I'm watching this because I plan on buying some texture paste this week.

    Thanks so much for the great info you provided---embossing paste vs. texture paste. I'm certainly not new to crafting -n-such, but a novice when comes down to these pastes. In one of Tim Holtz's demonstrations on YT, he mentions the textured pastes will become "puffy" if using a heat tool to dry. Thanks again for posting!

    Thank you for taking the time to do this in-depth comparison, Jennifer! I have to be extremely frugal with my shopping, so I've never purchased the embossing paste as much as I want it. But now that I have a less expensive option (and I want to color my paste, too) I know that the texture paste would be the best fit for me. Thanks again :-)

    I have learned so much from your videos. I would have to buy both for the differences. I appreciate you for this video. I love to emboss, but I love how the color is better with the texture paste. I don't have either, but now I NEED both. lol

    Thanks so much for your info! I'm often being asked by my customers (I have an Aussie online shop) which one is best or what's the difference :) So good to see that they're both equally high in quality and both useful to have to use. And because you've done this so well, all I need to do to explain is simply share your video! Yay :) Thanks again!

    Thank you for sharing your comparison. But I have been using wendys embossing paste and love it. Have had no problems with it , and would pay the difference just to get the better product. The colors are as deep as you want to apply. The embossing is much better. As ranger has some great products that I love, I have no desire to purchase the texture paste, when I feel I already have the best with wendys product. Enjoy your videos. . But this time I'm staying with wendys paste.

    It seems to me that the Embossing paste smoothed out better with the glitter. the other one had some bubbles and pits. I agree that the Texture powder did take the color more. Like you said it just depends on what you want to create. Thanks

    Thanks Jennifer!! Great video and after seeing your awesome comparison, I now will be adding some Texture Paste to my stash. I really like how it is a bit whiter, I like how it takes color, but did not really like how it bubbles when you heat emboss it and since I have a stash of Embossing Paste I can use for that, I think based pretty much on value, this frugal girl is going to go with Texture Paste for pretty much everything but heat embossing!!

    There is a video by docrafts on how to make your own embossing paste. It is quite easy. I believe it is 1 teaspoon Alene's tacky glue. 1 teaspoon white acrylic paint. And 3/4 cup of talc powder. But don't quote me for sure on the amounts. Look for the do crafts video for sure.

    I don't have embossing paste yet, as I'm still relatively new to this type of crafting, but I have noticed that the Texture Paste will "wick up" color from underneath. I often do an entire background in distress inks, and each time (whether it's dried naturally or using a heat gun), once I stencil Texture Paste over it, the ink will eventually soak into and color the paste instead of staying white. I've gotten some great effects this way, but I'm guessing others would count on it staying white. I'm wondering if embossing paste does the same thing.

    Thank you so much for the excellent presentation of your review of these 2 pastes. I have both but just yesterday evening tried my hand with the texture paste and Tim Holtz' lovely floral stencil. Yup, I'm addicted. I went crazy. And then I colored some areas with the new distress crayons. Worked nicely. Glad to know they hold up nicely. Would you recommend topping the finished work with some kind of medium to give it more protection? TU again!
