    I was 24 years old when Bruce Lee died that july 20, 1973. I was watching the ABC channel 7 news in Chicago that Saturday evening. It was breaking news.

    I am going on 72 pretty soon. When I was in my early 20's, I got caught up in the drug culture. I was seriously wasting myself and my education. After seeing my 1st Bruce Lee movie, I decided then and there to straighten myself out. He was a tremendous inspiration for me and I have been clean ever since ... still working out to this day. I mostly do weight training with about 3 days of heavy bag training. I owe the better me and my better life to Bruce Lee. I studied at the Filipino Kali Academy on Normandie when I was young. If I remember right it was in Harbour City CA. Dan Inosanto, Jeff Imada, Richard Bustillo (RIP) and Jerry Poteet (RIP) where all great people. Miss that place. Unfortunately we did not have cell phones with cameras back then so most everything is just a memory for me. But Great Memories :)!

      @@jquest43 I think it was around 74 or 75. They still had Bruce's 300 lb Heavy Bag hanging there. We were training in Kali, Arnis, Escrima & JKD. I don't remember a lot of it any more.

    Jeff Imada holds Bruce in such reverence. Clearly stating him as an influence in his work. Jeff did the original gun kata tape (trapping with guns) that they used for Equilibrium with Christian Bale.
    I was at a seminar of Jeff's. He was so humble and talked about a big production he was stunt coordinating, (Fast and Furious movie of that year).... he talked about it like it was a normal job haha.
    He keeps Bruce's spirit alive in his work.

      @asianactionactor4204 5 років тому +2

      Yeah he shared that at the seminar. He mentioned he developed it for the director, he mentioned recording a camcorder tape, but due to scheduling he wasn't able to be the stunt coordinator on it as planned. The director and stunt coordinator probably used the tape as reference.

    Jeff was there when Brandon Lee was shot and he tended to him until the ambulance arrived. Truly a shocking a thing he's had to deal with and poor Michael Massee (RIP) who pulled the trigger , almost never acted again after that day. I've seen Jeff in many films since the 80's , a true veteran of the industry and a great martial artist.

    First time i saw Bruce use the nunchaku i thought he invented the weapon
    just about every kid in my hood had a pair of handmade chucks. Mine were made of fiberglass.
    Bruce also influenced fashion in the hood.Back in the day lots of dudes and girls were sporting chinese slippers.A lot of dudes were sporting Chinese jackets and kung fu pants also.

    Aside from having both of Jeff's balisong manuals from the 80s, for me, the most memorable part of Jeff's career is the opening airport abduction-scene in Big Trouble in Little China, where his character produces a telescoping baton and a balisong in a little espada y daga-esque display.

    Legendary fight choreographer - he's describing what is basically the "kaizen" mindset of Bruce Lee which lives on today in MMA. Kaizen is a Japanese word which means "Constantly improving" or "Change for good", and also includes "inspect and adapt." As Jeff explains, this is a way of life, not just for martial arts, it is more of a philosophy really.

  • @AGC828

    Bruce was about "realism"...mostly...and a definite far cry from the garbage from HK films (which is still being done...hyper unrealistic...overdone...too many moves). But even in Bruce's films...while at the time closer to being realistic he did over do it too....like in the scenes in Enter The Dragon when he's battling Han's guards underground...he hits this skinny old guy maybe 10+ times with two Kali sticks...when 1 clean blow would have sufficed...same with the famous nunchaku scene by the acid bath area where he takes a niunchuck from a guard who stands frozen while Bruce does his moves then hits the guard who knows how many times...again unnecessary...1-2 hits would have done the job. In a real situation. And no blood :P
    Bruce being cut by Han's "knife hand"...how did he only get superficial wounds? And not deep cuts opening up his stomach...having his guys pour out and bleed out in seconds? Why didn't Han stab him? :) Han was a Shaolin monk too. Odd they didn't get an elite martial artist to play Han. The actor I doubt was a martial artist at all. I think he was 60 when they made the film or older.
    Fist of Fury...one man against a school?? Don't think so. No matter how good any one is. :) Then he picks up two JP guys like rag dolls. They WERE dolls. :)
    Will always be a fan. But his films had holes. I expected more decades later having "grown up" since watching as a kid his movies for the first time. I was WOWED too then. Never questioned what I saw then.

    • @paulhightower1857
      @paulhightower1857 5 років тому +1

      Yeah. But Man you gotta remember it's a movie.if he had done it the way you are saying, it wouldn't have been as great as it was. I mean he didn't fight like that in real life. Your mistaking martial arts Cinema, with real martial arts.

    • @mestizoboy
      @mestizoboy 5 років тому

      Anderson C
      The actor who played Han *was* a martial artist; He was an instructor at the Chin Woo Athletic Association in Shanghai before he became an actor.
      As for the "realism" of BL's films, they were *films* -not instructional videos.
      FFS, do you really think you can carve wooden darts out of a random chunk of wood, and effectively throw them into exact human targets 25 ft. away, like in Way of The Dragon/Return of The Dragon?, or, pick a rickshaw up from the handles with (or even without) a grown-ass man sitting in the seat at the other end, like in Fist of Fury/Chinese Connection?
