My apologies for the slow response. You are right. Marine squadrons that are going to operate from land most of the time TransPac or TransLant and aerial refuel to get there. If the destination is in hostile territory it is necessary for aircraft to be carrier-based as there are no land bases available, initially. Thus the need for aircraft to be carrier-based for amphibious assaults.
I know USMC Squadrons deploy on CVNs, but isn't in-flight refueling the primary method to forward deploy most USMC fixed wing aircraft?
