Matthew Stafford arguably had the best year of his career, on tape.

Best Quarterbacks in the NFC. Id give him a 4 year Contract right now. Rams will win 1 of the next 3 Super Bowls.

Anyone who doesn’t have him at least top 6-7 in their qb rankings doesn’t know ball. It’s really that simple. Played better than his stats showed all year, but especially when they went 7-1 down the stretch, there were not 5 qbs playing better. And absolutely outplayed Goff in the playoff game

Top 3 easily. Hard to pick anyone, other than Mahomes, as being better than him. Idek if Mahomes is that much better, just younger and more mobile really

My only critique of stafford would be that he doesn’t seem to utilize all his receivers and tends to rely heavily on his WR1. It could definitely be the play calling, but every WR that I have heard interviewed about catching his throws always say his passes have alot of zip.
So that being said that’s why trusting the ability of his WR’s to catch his passes is likely limited to just whoever can consistently catch his passes. If he could pass with a little more finesse than power, I think his ability to keep defenses guessing will go up because more receivers will be involved.
    Great content thanks again!

"My only critique of stafford would be that he doesn’t seem to utilize all his receivers and tends to rely heavily on his WR1"
This is false. McVays Offense is built this way, 1st-2nd read gets the most targets. This OFF is Run, Pass Short, Pass Medium, Set-up Deep pass (more often hope for a broken Def play) in that order.
If this OFF was built for Stafford It would be Balanced (leaned little on the run) and the WR's would be MUCH better deep threats (There's only 1 TuTu which barley gets used no matter how bad the DEF or DBs are).

I agree. But then again, Allen Robinson was trash and Kupp was heavily injured most the season. There’s also no problem of hitting an open receiver and even if 2 are wide open then I suppose it doesn’t really matter right?

  • @AutoModder
    @AutoModder 3 місяці тому +2

The Rams OFF would be much better if it was built for/around Stafford and not McVay. WRs, TEs, RBs, how he use them and concepts all are what McVay likes/wants this Offense to be.
    /
This OFF is Run, Pass Short, Pass Medium, Set-up Deep pass (more often hope for a broken Def play) in that order. If you watch the film of this game Lions Pass D is BUTT, Looking at the Plays/Concepts Short to Medium.
    /
Nonathletic TEs who main/best skill is block and running short/shallow routes and routes where the just sit. Ebron and Hockenson were Staffords best TEs because they are good-great receivers.
    /
WRs They are Decent -Good athleticism and Decent -Good deep threats, most of the routes they run are short-medium. Kupp, Puka, and Robinson all have the same skill sets but different levels. The only real threat short, medium and deep is TuTu and McVay doesn't like to use him, No matter how bad the DEF or DBs are (Use this Lions game as an example).
    /
Stafford Fav WRs and TEs were always the players that he can throw Jump balls, sideline back shoulders, High passes, etc. That's all gone, He quickly learned Van wasn't that guy and stopped trying those throws with him. When Odell came all the throws he would normally throw to Marvin Jones, Golladay, and Calvin all went to him. Look at the Redzone and goal line Passing Off, It's pretty clear.
    /
He also loved throwing to his RB (Theo was great receiving RB), I would like to see McVay get RBs more involved in the Pass.
    /
If this OFF was built for Stafford It would be Balanced (leaned little on the run) and the WR's would be MUCH better deep threats. I was happy to hear that (rumor) they reached out to the Broncos about Courtland Sutton.

NONSENSE Jackson, Matthew Stafford plays like this all the time, WHEN he has a functioning offense. What need is there to talk about situations where the Oline is constantly breaking down, and/or when they are getting nothing from the running game? No QB can realistically thrive under those conditions with consistency. Any time Stafford has had time to throw, and the running game able to pitch in at least 50+ yards, he has won the vast majority of those situations his entire career. The majority of Stafford's bad games are when he's had bad protection consistently. Outside of that he is pretty stellar. Every QB has a few "off" games in their careers, but I can literally count them on one hand for Stafford, where he did not play up to his abilities in a game where he received relatively good protection and the run game was average or better.

Matthew has always been underrated because he played for the sorry ass Lions most of his career. In my life time he will always be the best quarterback Detroit Lions ever had including Goff, unless Goff wins the Super Bowl for Lions.

I was expecting an mvp season by Matthew stafford at some point in his rams tenure... Sadly that hasn't happened yet and may never do. He still plays clutch in the playoffs and has enough juice left to be great but he needs help.

The most underrated QB in the NFL is .... Brock Purdy
Purdy in his first two seasons went to the Championship twice and the SB once. In his first Champ game he had his arm torn off, and in the SB game a fumble by the RB and a punt hitting the ankle of a player kept Purdy from winning the SB.
In the SB era, only Big Ben Roethlisberger has a better record in his first two years.
And yet....Purdy is considered a below average QB by the NFL writers and the YT analysts.
Purdy just wins games ... but winning games is considered a garbage stat by the "experts".
