Thanks!! You know, I was looking at it today thinking the same thing. It really has transformed over the past year or so and I'm very happy with how this project is turning out. It's really cool to know some of you guys have been along for the ride from the start!
Wanted to say thanks for the vids. I have a 96 zj 5.2 limited I’ve had a long time since 02 ? Trying to fix mine up between repairs to keep it running. Would like to pick your brain from time to time. Do you still have this Jeep?
I know this is old video but looking at how you routed the wiring to the battery how long was it before it rubbed through the insulation and shorted out?
Never had an issue. Insulation was thick, cables didn't move much because they were zip tied, and where they passed through metal was smooth rounded edges that were folded over.
Thank You for the great content. QUESTION. Can I flat tow behind my motorhome ( 4 wheels on ground) a 96 ZJ with the 249 transfer case? I tested by putting transfer case in neutral and transmission in park and zj moves freely forward and reverse as I push it. Ssme thing happens if transfer case is in neutral and transmission in neutral, I wonder what's safer. Please someone with experience on this reply. I have a trip coming soon and need to know. For my towing points I'm good. Jeep has a heavy duty winch mount with d rings and it's sandwiched over the unibody frame.. (1996 5.2 V8 with full time 4wd 249 transfer case, automatic transmission)
shawtyneyo Oh yeah, it's plenty solid, just pre load the strap/line don't jerk slack out of it. you would probably tweak the unibody before you tweaked the winch plate.
+RYANVISION how durable is it I break trails and pretty solid bushes don't want to warp it or damage it...if I gotta get a bumper i will but rather not dump that much $$$
I should have watched your transfer case vid before asked, when you did the swap to the NP242 did you have to change anything in the transfer case or swap a part from the NP249 to make the swap work
Vernon Miller No, if you do the research and find the right donor vehicle no changes are needed. This baby bolted right into my 96 ZJ from a 97 ZJ. The only change we had to do was remove about an inch from the rear output shaft of the case just to allow full suspension travel for the long arms (around 14" of travel). Check out JeepForum the ZJ section has an awesome write up on xfer case swaps.
Vernon Miller Stay away from 249 if possible, AKA only having 4 all time and 4 low. The viscous couplers cause issues if you plan to use bigger tires and off road at some point.
***** It's a Rough Country winch plate kit. Bolt on except for some minor metal cutting and trimming of the plastic bumper. I went for the optional D ring kit too.
Jeep looks better and better every video. Been following this project since the beginning and wow, what a transformation. Good work Ryan.

Sold the ZJ and the LJ but still have the MJ (Comanche)
I wish you have did a video of you cutting the bumper
It's been a long time but I think I used a Dremel tool with a cutoff wheel

Steel cables are outlawed on alot of trails now.

Yes you can tow it with all 4 wheels on the ground. I believe the owner manual said neutral trans and transfer case.
I just got a 98 zj and was wondering if this winch plate is strong enough to pull someone out of the mud if they were stuck

Oh alright thanks for the info and you just got a subscriber lol

where did you get your head lamps
Either eBay or Amazon. Think I searched for "euro zj lights"
awesome
What kind of mount did you use ? Tia!

what kind of battery are you running with your zj?
+MrUglily In this video I think it was DuraLast Gold but now I have an Optima yellow top.
Link for winch plate?
Google search Jeep ZJ Rough Country Winch Plate and it should come up.
