I own one of these and I can tell you they are awesome! It's a mobile scanner so it doesn't do what desktop scanners do and you shouldn't expect it to. I can scan 20 full page documents in probably less than 5 minutes. (maybe less)
Was looking for a user guide since I’ve never used ours before and this got me there in under a minute (had to use app on computer not just hit the scan button). Super helpful.
The Doxie scanner has the same limitation in that it won't scan with a depleted battery even if plugged in to a USB port, although Doxie does offer the option of an AC adapter. But one can usually wait only a few minutes and it will have charged enough from the USB port to complete a scan operation. One area where the Doxie wins over this portable scansnap in my opinion is in the Doxie software. It is elegantly simple to use, allowing reordering of pages, grouping / ungrouping of pages, very good bundled ocr, and adequate save-to features like the Fujitsu but with better ease of use for managing the scan jobs. Thanks for a great concise yet thorough review Lon.
Hi Lon, I have the s1100 scanner, no complaints. I stopped using it when the Scansnap software app was incompatible with Mac OS Sierra. Blank saved folders, lost files if I'm correct. Fujitsu said this issue would be resolved in future software updates. Has this been resolved? Fujitsu has come out with Scansnap Home app that is compatible with OS Catalina. Im using Catalina. What's your opinion about using the new Scansnap Home app and my s1100?
You said it doesn't work when the battery is fully depleted. Is the battery replaceable? If not, the scanner become useless when the rechargeable battery no longer holds a decent charge, right? I often have to replace working devices, just because the rechargeable battery doesn't hold charge, and I'm wondering how long this product will last...
Hi. What if you accidentally feed a document at an angle or not straight? It would probably jam or something. How do you cancel the scan? Thanks for sharing.
Hello I live in Canada and just acquired the ix500 to be able to scan receipts for tax purposes. sadly I found out that the scansnap receipt software is only able to take and ocr only one tax :( here in Canada we have two taxes GST 5% and PST 8%. If there is a way to have both taxes scan and ocr will love to know how to do it.
This scanner does not work for me. I can never get a purple light. On the extremely odd time that I can, I scan one document, push the button to indicate I am done to close the document out and BOOM! The orange lights… then close it up, open again, start all over again. It’s beyond frustrating. I would like to throw it.
***** Yeah, I've seen the video right now thank to your link. Interesting scanner. I've seen portable duplexing scanners from the videos of OFA 2014, but they'll be avalaible only in the next months. Now I'm testing a completely different type of portable scanner (IriScan 3). But surely I have to thank you cause you are one of the few to do review about such accessories and give a deep reference so anyone can judge and have an advice about buying.
This guy is one of the few honest and reliable reviewers out there. Love all of his review. I have this scanner and he is dead on.

Great review. It's often just as important to hear about the limitations of a product as much as its strengths.

Den Scanner hab ich auch für den mobilen Einsatz. Wirklich ein Klasse Teil was man uneingeschränkt empfehlen kann.

That LEGENDARY background! XD
Neat device. I could see a lot of applications for such advice.
does it scan on both pages, or do you need to flip each page to scan the back ?
Indeed it is pretty easy to use and fast.
I am searching for a small scanner for scanning receipts. They are usually narrow (

Great clear review
Is such portable scanner capable of scanning legal size papers-- 8.5 x14 inches?
Is it good for scanning pictures... Please
Very helpful review
I was gonna buy one until I saw the price. I don't want it that bad. I mean the scanner. ;P
What paper sizes can a scanner use? Is it legal?
Maybe a stupid question, but can it do thicker things, like a passport or a driver's license?
QuantumBraced hi there. Yes it can.
where is scaning demo speed with 300 and 600 dpi?

So you cant scan book pages..
EN SANTA CRUZ, BOLIVIA TIENEN PROVEEDORES DE VENTA..................
I've seen something better, it can't scan books; anyway I prefer the like ones those can scan both front and side at the same time
***** It's cause I've seen similar scanner with duplexing. Anyway it's a nice device, but doesn't catch my attention completely

Good review, not my cup of tea. Apps now-a-days are doing this (99 cents), minus the clearer image.
